The player from MTSU might be worth pursuing for the purpose of depth.

Here is the list of 6-3 and 6-4 players:

Ramani Parker, 6-4, F, Senior (3 ppg, 5.5 rpg) - Miss State
Jana Sallman, 6-3, F, Freshman (1.4 ppg) - Memphis
Kamaria Gipson, 6-3, F, Senior (4.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg) - South Alabama
Jorynn Ross, 6-3, F, Freshman (6.1 ppg, 4 rpg) - Pepperdine

While you can't coach height, just having height in no way qualifies one to earn a scholarship at UT.

If Vic doesn't think they're a good fit, then I don't care how tall they are. We don't need to waste the scholarship.

Hence why I stated "for depth." But you're right... Vic's probably had enough of carrying extra weight just "for depth."

I was mostly responding to wkass, who seems singularly focused on picking up a tall girl from the portal.
Yes, guilty as charged. I don't want to get another post player just for the sake of it either.

If you tell me the 4 post players we have will stay healthy and will make significant contributions next year, I'm fine with that. But the past couple of years that has not been the case, and the extra depth helped. I also do not know how much Abbie will be factor for us next year.

Abbie is the big question mark in my mind. If she was healthy this spring and goes through summer and fall training, who knows what will happen. She is an unknown. But any portal player having played somewhere else is also an unknown. Success at another school doesn't guarantee success at Texas.

My assumption is Slim to None, with Slim packing his bags to leave town. Abbie needs a whole lot of strength and conditioning work in addition to her injury rehab. She is the very definition of a long term project.

IMO, a waste of a scholarship so far. Hope she recovers and contributes.

I usually reserve "waste of a scholarship" and similar language for players who crap out due to character issues and/or legal troubles. I know what you're driving at, but using a scholarship on a player you expect to be a late bloomer isn't wasting it, though it does tie it up with very few in-game returns for several years (if ever).

She averaged only 7.5 points per game in high school, which makes me wonder if she was hurt, is a late, late bloomer or just not an athlete, despite being tall. Seems like she should have been able to get at least double figures in high school - 7.5 is only 3 put-backs, or so. Reminds me of Ellen Bayer, who had respectable stats, but wasn't a dominant player. Wish her well, whatever.

No disrespect to the players who are going through these ordeals, but that's the part that irks me the most. Some year, I would like to see a full and contributing bench in real time.

Those stats are from here senior year which was mostly a washout. They aren’t listed but her her Jr year was much better
I did see a few of her games when she was a JR and came away impressed. She ran the floor well and actually had a nice mid range jumper.
This was during the time our centers were "throwing" the ball at the rim.

All her injuries have been and are foot and or ankle related. I posted this like 2 years ago that an Ortho associate who deals with high school athletes sports injuries suggested it could be growth spurt related. Remember she was 6"9 at age 15.

It's a red shirt year. All we know about her condition is what we don't know.
Isn't it a bit early to call it a "wasted" scholorship ?
While I tend it to agree that things are looking like they may not pan out with Abbie, I also agree that it's a bit early and only time will tell. That type of size is worth the risk that comes with the gamble IMO.

Thank you CNB for properly telling it like it should be told!

She and her teammates figured out the game in time to win a Bronze. It’s a fun game to watch, not easy to win a medal of any type. She played really well in the final few games. Didn’t think the 3x3 team was particularly strong, but don’t know how it was picked. Could be that more experienced WNBA players did not want to participate. So, we had college player Van Lith, 2nd year pro Ryann Howard, plus experienced pros Cierra Burdick and DeArica Hamby. Watched several games and enjoyed them, but USA! USA! was slow, a step behind, opponents. :usflag:

Matharu on the move AGAIN. Good pickup for whoever gets her. She would’ve been an even better player and all American had she stayed with Vic. I do miss her shooting abilities.

You can enter the transfer portal any time. What does this mean for Matharu? She can't enroll at another school until mid-December or even January; don't think she'll be eligible until 2025-26. I guess she will redshirt (again) this year as she redshirted the first year she arrived at Florida after having left Texas since at that time it was her second transfer as an undergrad and unlimited transferring with immediate eligibility did not yet exist.

The rules keep changing. Maybe this time since she is transferring as a graduate student she would be eligible to play next semester at her new school?

I thought she left Texas because Vic's style prohibited her from shooting all the time. Then she goes to Florida and becomes leading shooter. Now leaving...what's she after?
