Transfer Portal 2024

Is it? Texas has a starter a the 4. Players the quality of Gardiner are not looking to be backups:
Had she come to Texas, Gardiner is that athletic player with size that would've gotten minutes at both post positions... and good enough to start at either one depending on situations. That's actually exactly what we need. There are still two or three more available in the portal that I'm aware of.

You know, we still never got any proof that Timea Gardiner was the transfer in town last weekend for a visit (and hanging out with the other players and coaches at Vic's home); it might very well have been Oldacre. We might never know.

UCLA was one of the Gardiner's finalists coming out of high school. But, UCLA is set at Center with Betts, and with Dugalic at PF (unless she is not as good as Gardiner) who started 29 of 30 games last season. So, no guarantee Gardiner is a starter at UCLA.

Regardless, gotta move forward. Cameron Williams could help our depth in the front court; I'm sure her experience and maturity as a grad-transfer would be welcome. She's actually a transfer who is taking longer than most to come to a decision; no idea what she's looking for in her new school/program. Having her teammate coming to Texas can't hurt our chances.

I agree with you. With Taylor's history of nagging injuries, we need extra depth at both post positions. This way Taylor, Kyla, Aaliyah, and another Post player can help rotate in and out throughout the game as needed. Justice may be able to work into this rotation as well.

What year is Williams entering?

Like Laila, Cameron is a senior, so only one year left. I would definitely take her in a heartbeat too. Tons of experience and would complement Laila very nicely since they were teammates at Michigan.

Cameron also fits our culture too. I have seen a couple of interviews and she seems like a great team player.

Justice will definitely be a part of the regular rotation.

Agreed. And while I want more players from the portal, let’s not underestimate the benefits we get from our recruits doing well. That helps us in the long run so much. Can’t recruit the 5 stars if they never can crack the lineups. Booker’s story this season was huge for us!

Wasn't sure where to share this article, but it is transfer related.
MSN

I have seen stories from some WBB websites that both South Carolina and UConn are stressing out because they have not landed any big name post players in this year's portal. Even Geno has been complaining that his team looks small compared to previous years.

I am sure we are battling them for Cameron, Maryam, and/or Janiah.

Yeah, I'm really not getting where SC thinks they need more post players. Feagan, Kitts, and Watkins all played a lot of minutes the last season and now they're adding Joyce Edwards and Adhel Tac. They also have Sakima Walker who might have another year availability.

Coach Lovato started following Cameron Williams' (who graduate from Michigan this weekend) mother (Heather Williams) and father (Aaron Williams, former NBA player) on Instagram.

Coach Wisdom-Hylton is also following her on Twitter.

Well, Cameron started following a lot of the Miami players on Instagram, and her Dad started following the MiamiWBB account.

Looks like we may be in a situation at the 5 that we were with guards last year. Unless they are a "big name" so to speak, it seems other recruits don't think they can come in and earn starting minutes. I don't understand that... especially with Jones having a history of injury.

I mean, part of that could be that Vic did not go to his bench very often last season unless it was due to foul trouble. Herron didn't get many minutes whatsoever. Maul would barely see the floor with Booker, Holle and Gonzales playing almost 40 minutes each per game. And, Codio saw even less playing time. Now, we know all 3 of those players were coming off injuries the previous season; but, I'm not sure that was the reason they barely played at Texas.

When any of those came off the court the other team would make a run so it made sense. But that was not the case for the F's. Gaston, Muhammad and Faye averaged well over a whole game in min played and so far there's only 1 player to replace those 3. A top player may want to be assured of starting minutes, something Vic can't promise, but would most likely occur at some point anyway. It's a bit of a catch 22 in expectations that makes it a tough situation. Hopefully Justice will be served anyway.
