To. Orlano?

when you have to have 49 to win ... I'd say your D has some issues. ST scored 2 of those 49 needed, to be sure. Offense wasn't getting it done after the first two possessions. We lived on a prayer every subsequent possession.

But the D was a hot mess against a team which should have faced our 2s/3s backups for most of the 2nd Half. Not scrambling with a friendly clock to win it with a Happy Feller type FG.
Since our 1s and 2s get injured so rampantly, KU was facing most of our 3s and 4s already.

offense with an explosive run game with some imagination
ah ... I could not care less about "imagination" ... that's code for "trickeration"

how about fundamental football. the OL blocks, the runner finds the seams, holds the ball, and falls forward with at least two defenders on him.

not on offense.

while D was the focus of my misplaced post (ou game OP) ... the offense should have been staffed with its 2s/3s in the 2nd Half ... playing hard ... rather than the 1s "laying up"

but we had mostly 1s on O ... "playing hard" to the last play!??

I was being facetious about the defense.

Worster,

I understand, but why can't the athletic department contract with an LLC for services provided by that LLC's employee?

The athletic department contracts with multiple entities for services.

My unsolicited two pesos (about what it's worth, depending on the exchange rate):

For an immediate (albeit very slight) improvement, how about we see more playing time for Bimage and even Jacoby Jones. IMHO, with limited play time, those two have shown an ability to generate some pressure that at least approaches the minimum acceptable level.

A few other thoughts:

Coburn is a NT. His job on passing plays is to push back and collapse the pocket. He's mostly done an okay/so-so job at that (and he's just a Freshman). He has not been a disappointment, but he certainly hasn't wowed us yet. We need a lot more from our DEs. To be fair, when Roach is on fire, he's good. He also gets doubled a fair amount. But he's inconsistent, some OTs seem to really "have his number", and one man is not a pash rush. Graham has not met expectations. Yeah, the scheme is probably a big part of it. If Roach was the strongside end in a 4 man front, and 10+ lbs lighter, he might be an absolute terror.

A complete (and disruptive) overhaul is not required for the remainder of this season. Bring in Bimage sometimes as a 4th man on the front and slide Graham or Roach down to a 2 tech/DT type. Both of those guys are big and strong enough to handle it. If not, we've got backup NTs to do it. Or have an even quicker big LB play the 4th man on the front instead of Bimage. Vaughans (245 lbs.) seemed to really get after it last game. A big LB could also play with a hand on the ground sometimes and in a 2 pt stance at other times, and even drop back in shallow coverage sometimes like the old Dallas Cowboys flex D. That confuses the heck out of many QBs.

Most of the times, and it’s only 4-5 a game, I focus on Roach specifically he’s had two blockers on him. To me that says if TO was the least bit creative there should be someone freed up as a rusher. Never, or VERY rarely, seems to happen.

I've got it:

We bring a LB up to the line right over an Offensive Guard, not to blitz, but to "mug" him--like DC Carl Reese used to do with Reed Boyd.

THAT is our biggest problem on defense running this 3-3-5.
You HAVE to have a beast at NT to make this defense work, and we don't have it. Freshman or not...he has to be a beast. DTs can be beasts as Freshmen if they are really good enough to play NT in this scheme. Suh was a beast for NU as a freshman. Tommie Harris ( though I don't recall which DT spot he filled ) was an animal for OU as a Freshman...Though undersized, the kid at Houston was an animal...A mean MOFO can play DL as a Freshman. We don't have any. Ours are nice kids. They are not junkyard dog mean. They also are obviously not taught how to get off a block, as we don't see any swim/rip moves ( only see bull rushes which allows OL to hold within the framework easily).

That is basically what we are doing, but we blitz from 5 or more yards off the ball only to mug them. Watch them ...we run in and head butt them like a mountain goat and that is all we do. Damnedest thing I've ever seen in football.....While our DL bull rushes with seemingly no idea where the ball is...... SMH..Its almost laughable.

So they double Roach... That leaves 4 ( counting a RB ) to block the other 2 and any blitzing LB/SS --- if they get there from where they come from..Resulting in a completed pass to a wide open WR, because the QB had all day to find him. I cringe at what Brewer and BU's WRs plus RB are going to do to this _efense.

Graham is playing 100% out of position. He is a 3i DT and we have him playing as a pass rusher 5 tech. That is like racing an F-450 in Nascar. He is great against the run, but too slow to make a difference as a pass rusher. However, if we can move him over a guard, he can do much more damage in helping to collapse the pocket.

What this defense needs is for DW Rutledge to come out of retirement and run his 52-over defense.
