My unsolicited two pesos (about what it's worth, depending on the exchange rate):
For an immediate (albeit very slight) improvement, how about we see more playing time for Bimage and even Jacoby Jones. IMHO, with limited play time, those two have shown an ability to generate some pressure that at least approaches the minimum acceptable level.
A few other thoughts:
Coburn is a NT. His job on passing plays is to push back and collapse the pocket. He's mostly done an okay/so-so job at that (and he's just a Freshman). He has not been a disappointment, but he certainly hasn't wowed us yet. We need a lot more from our DEs. To be fair, when Roach is on fire, he's good. He also gets doubled a fair amount. But he's inconsistent, some OTs seem to really "have his number", and one man is not a pash rush. Graham has not met expectations. Yeah, the scheme is probably a big part of it. If Roach was the strongside end in a 4 man front, and 10+ lbs lighter, he might be an absolute terror.
A complete (and disruptive) overhaul is not required for the remainder of this season. Bring in Bimage sometimes as a 4th man on the front and slide Graham or Roach down to a 2 tech/DT type. Both of those guys are big and strong enough to handle it. If not, we've got backup NTs to do it. Or have an even quicker big LB play the 4th man on the front instead of Bimage. Vaughans (245 lbs.) seemed to really get after it last game. A big LB could also play with a hand on the ground sometimes and in a 2 pt stance at other times, and even drop back in shallow coverage sometimes like the old Dallas Cowboys flex D. That confuses the heck out of many QBs.
