Tim Irvin commits to Texas

He has not only flipped to Auburn, he is now hosting and trying to land more of our recruits to Auburn. What a difference a few days can make these days in the recruiting wars.

Tim Irvin to host Davante Davis RT "@T_Irvin2: @SaluteMe_103 Can't wait till bro come up on the 30th I'll be hosting him #War Eagle"

Now Tim Irvin is asking for it. Trying to flip the guy from us so soon after decomitting is just not right, Actually it is fine to do that, but to decommit and immediately post this stuff to rub it into Texas, is very unclassy of Tim Irvin.

Texas fans were very gracious in every site till a few minutes ago, wishing good luck and all that, but now people are calling Tim Irvin names, and I cannot blame them!

Actually, I'd like to know how Michael Irvin really feels about this development? Well, Auburn is aggy-like. Lots of competition in those parts, and Muschamp probably won't be there next year anyhow. Move on.

Irvin sounds flakey. Not that flakey can't play football, it certainly can. But to flip and in one fell swoop start recruiting others to flip before the ink gets dry on the twitter feed strikes me as a bit too flakey.

I admit I'm looking at this through burnt orange lenses.

Malik Jefferson has maintained an attitude of not pushing on recruits. He's been respectful toward freedom of choice. Has said so in his tweets (as I recall).

So far as I can tell, those who have chosen Texas in a serious way have been like that.

I have a strong suspicion Will painted an ugly picture of UT to Irvin.
Give me some good news Jay, not feeling so great on how recruiting will end up.

^^^ You need good news? Sure.

Auburn seems to be down to only 4 spots left after Irvin committed. They are in on so many 5-star and 4-star guys right now that the Auburn reports say they won't be able to wait for Burt till the end. They are hard-recruiting Ryan Davis from Florida ranked below Burt for the same reason. I am expecting a re-commitment from John Burt soon.

In fact on his twitter he was asking for a "new Longhorn edit" pucture yesterday. Paul_Hookem, who is great at making graphics obliged today.... Stuff like that. No Auburn talk from Burt for a while. I think he is just waiting for Auburn to tell him that they have no spot, so he can give that as the excuse to his dad and commit to us.

So, we lose top-250 Irvin to Auburn, and get top-150 Burt. I will take that trade!

Kids decommit. It happens. But the manner in which Irvin did so is, my judgment, not a very good reflection on his character for two reasons. First, he waited fairly late in the process to make his commitment. Secondly, he made the commitment in a very public manner, on national television.

Not very impressive. Perhaps we are better without him.

I am okay with him decommitting, but it is his tweets after that which upset me. Some of these kids look at some college coaches who recruited them for years like father figures (T-Rob is supposedly a good guy, and has been on him for almost 4 years), so his committing to Auburn was quite fine. Had Muschamp and T-Rob were sure to be in Florida, he would not even have committed to us. But there was no clarity on where they were going when he had firmed up on us. And suddenly T-Rob was picked for Auburn just 4-5 days before his announced date of commitment on National TV. He should have just delayed that rather than commit to us when there were reports all around that he was in serious two-minds already. But Auburn wouldn't take no for an answer even after he said he will be in Austin on the 12th, So, we can understand a young guy finding it tough to decide when the coach you look up to is after you.

The only thing I blame Irvin is for immediately tweeting today that he wants Davante Davis visiting there and that he would be the host. He should just kept quiet, out of respect for Texas fans who showed him much love all along, for his Florida friends at Texas whom he ditched (like Clarington), and for the Texas staff who put in so much effort on him. It was completely in bad taste.

For a comparison, here is how Ryan Newsome today dropped Tennessee from his top-3 in a tweet. "After much discussion and prayer with my family, I will be deciding between The UCLA Bruins & The Texas Longhorns. Thank you to the University of Tennessee, Butch Jones, Coach Azzani, and Good Ole' Rocky Top for believing in my ability as a football player" Then he posted a picture of Coach Zach Azzani and him and said "Love this man". Posted on his twitter "I still have Tennessee winning SEC East next year" and texted all the Vols reporters, "Let the Vols fans know I still love them!". That's class.

Newsome did all that (which, I admit, is very rare for college kids to do) for just dropping UTenn from consideration to commit, not for a decommitment.

And here we have classless Tim Irvin committing to us on National TV, then quietly becoming a soft-decommit by removing the word "Texas" after "University of" on his profile, and then posting the next day without a word about Texas, "here is the jersey I will be wearing at Auburn", following it with "Can't wait to host my bro on the 30th".

Tim Irvin showed his true colors of having no class or taste, today. yeah, good riddance.

^^ I don't think Strong was expected to go to Miami tomorrow. I think he may have already done his one available in-home with him; not sure. But assistant coaches are scheduled to be in Miami tomorrow, so I assume it will be Coach Vaughn and somebody else. Probably more to make sure that the other 4 are all staying (Davante Davis being the bigger worry, with a minor news of a late LSU interest in Clarington surfacing today)

Tweets just hit the wire (!) that actually Charlie himself is in Florida today. Charlie, Chris Vaughn and Brian Jean-Mary are in Miami. Visited Devonaire Clarington this morning. Others also today, I suppose.

I wish Mr. Irwin a sincere Periloux. A decommit is a decommit. But jacking with our other commits is different. Karma is a *****.

You can say that again. "LSU Holla" is what came to my mind too when I saw Tim Irvin's tweet yesterday. Karma is indeed a *****.

The whole day I was seeing stuff in various forums about a "counting the money" picture (actually it may have been a video clip) that Tim Irvin posted on snapchat once he got home. Looks like even articles are written now on it. Read this and enjoy the story of Irvin getting "graduation money from his aunt" and all that.... This is not even a Texas sports site reporting this

Texas DB Recruit Switches to Auburn After Posting Pic of Cash

$EC$EC$EC...

I know that at least two Texas recruiting gurus in different recruiting news services had hinted at something shady going on, before the Irvin decommitment, by the way.

One more article on our "money-flashing" Tim Irvin -The Link

Maybe he has a rich aunt in Miami. His rich uncle's wife couldn't have sent cash in an envelope to him from Dallas to Miami.... Right?

Fred Aker's famous line, "there is always an uncle" comes to mind. Some "uncle" must be there in Miami.

Bagmen do exist, and SEC schools must have theirs in Miami, though I have no proof.
