This Is Sooner Football

The signers of The Declaration put their lives on the line, and, if the British win, signed their own death warrant. They risked everything they had for the ideal of liberty. Here is a sample of what they did:

"Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or the hardships of the Revolutionary War."

For some Okie to come on here and compare the Founders to scum like Switzer is ABSOLUTELY offensive.

From a black prespective, the "founding fathers" of America were SCUM. They were slaveowners who raped, tortured, stole, cheated, lied, molested children, pitted us in fights like dogs, cheated us in court and many many many other things that are too many for this server to handle if I listed them all. If there was a way to dishonor a black man/woman, your founding fathers did it. Why on earth would I celebrate the founding fathers when they treated us as black people worse than animals (and had laws in place saying so)?? Yet, you think they are above anything that OU did?? Thats the biggest joke since equality was promised to us. So get off your high horse. They were SCUM to me and I dont celebrate nothing about those ********. What OU has done is equal to a paper cut. What the founding fathers did is equal to a nuke. Dont let white washed history blind you.

The History Channel a few years ago did an excellent miniseries on the founding fathers, and the founding brothers.

We've had a tendency to deify them, and in truth, they did take a terrible personal risk and show great bravery by signing the Declaration of Independence. They also showed great foresight, either by luck or circumstance, in setting up our form of government.

That being said, the forefathers had their share and more of human foibles. They drank too much, they partied till the cows come home, they chased, and caught, others' wives, and the slave owners, notably Thomas Jefferson, took full advantage of the power over their slaves in every way imaginable. There's a strong indication that most did NOT believe that all men were created equal, or at least were their equals.

History has a way of forgiving the winners, but in truth our forefathers were a LOT more interesting than some bunch of plaster saints.

You might want to get your hands on the History Channel miniseries, or at the least, read any of many books written about the forefathers.

I am incredulous at the ignorance of the Founders being portrayed here. Maybe you need to read about them yourself as opposed to taking one perspective about a handful of them from The History Channel. The entire revisionist perspective is possible because people don't take time to find out what these men believed, and how they literally changed the world. There was certainly no "luck" involved. We had a lot more signers/founders than Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin (not that there's anything wrong with them) who usually get the ink from the revisionist on some of their more "human" errors. I guess that is really all I can say in a football forum other than, yeah, it is VERY offensive to compare them to Switzer or the illegal acts at OU. These men gave their LIFE for you to ultimately live in a country where you can spout your BS.

As for the other two, these founding fathers didnt have black people in mind when they were doing all these "great things". Thomas Jefferson said all men are created equal then went down to give his notes on the state of Virginia 15 days later and said we (black people) have more in common with Orangutans than humans amongst other things. So, when you talk about their great works, that is fine for white folks. The last people they had in mind were us black folks when they wrote any decleration.

Its offensive to compare the OU program to anything your founding fathers did, but I understand. It wont help you any Saturday, but I understand.
 
1985 RRR and we are 50 yard line 3 rows behind ou's bench. Bosworth wobbled off the field over to the sideline and barfed right in front of us. To this day the most reputable thing I ever saw come out of Sooner football.

Several years ago our family stayed at the Dallas Renaissance hotel. It was the o/u team hotel. When I went to the bar the o/u fans saw me in my TX colors and said you can't come in here we own this hotel. We won that year 45-35 and had a great time at the bar after the game.So o/u fans please come own our hotels,restaurants,shopping malls,gas stations and State Fair for two days. You may be favored to win the game this year that has yet to be played but we win the $$ game in TEXAS every year. Be sure to sell an extra axle or two from under you home so you can have a enough spending $

Degrading our forefathers by those who listen to garbage from someone producing a History Channel tv show has no place on this board. Those men and women created the greatest country in the history of the world with the highest standard of living of any country for ALL of it’s citizens.
Let’s stick to Longhorn football.
