They got similar of immigration flows during the post-war years (proportionately of course) in Argentina for example they received a ton of Italian immigrants. Instead of forcing some sort of assimilation, they embraced their culture to the point where they honestly debate which society has influenced them more: Spain or Italy. That is true multiculturalism. Now I am not saying that they are not xenophobic as that tends to be a human condition, just that their xenophobia is much much weaker than what I see in the US/Europe currently.
