The Liar-in-Chief strikes again

Are we talking illegal immigration in total or apprehensions?

Apprehensions. The fact that we have not improved our methods on apprehending illegals it all comes down to the law of averages. The more we catch means the more illegals there were.

To your point Garmel That is why I always wonder why Dems keep touting drones over the wall.
With drones we are seeing illegals as they cross OR are already here which means the illegals have gamed us yet again and are here.
Versus a wall/barrier/effective fence which prevents them getting in.
Drones can play a role but it will not be preventing them from getting here

Neither a wall nor drones will do much if they aren't backed up with law enforcement officers with the ability to stop the illegal immigrants. And of course, mandatory e-verify would do far more than either or both and would be much harder for Democrats to oppose. But that wouldn't stroke anybody's ego.

MrD
Of all of those the wall will stop many and e verify would stop some more
and then reform to stop the families
It seems the barrier should be first.

Yep. E-verify is a helpful tool but it won't stop the criminal element. We need multiple layers of protection.

E-verify and death penalty for any illegal who commits violent crime. At least start the discussion there.

Whats the over-under on how many lies 45 says today in his big speech? If its lower than 100 I would be the over.

Here's my speech about it all:

"In my view there is very little respect for our border or our immigration laws. As President, it is my job to uphold the Constitution and specifically to enforce our immigration laws. In the absence of meaningful legislation I will continue to use the tools at hand which include deporting anyone at anytime that is caught illegally in our country. It is my strong desire that we establish a clear road-map to citizenship for the Dreamers. I would love nothing more than to end their concern about being uprooted from their life. But until I see support for vigorous border control and enforcement of our existing laws then it is all just one big negotiation. I'm not impressed with calls to abolish ICE. I'm not impressed with elected officials tipping off would be deportees. We won't create incentives for further illegal border crossings because they know they will be rewarded. We need to end the problem with this current generation of Dreamers. I acknowledge there we have made mistakes in our enforcement of our laws. It is our goal to be humane but firm. The message must be reinforced; the laws of the United States will be enforced by this President."

If I were his adviser I'd say a couple things: 1) Don't lie; it's not right and it doesn't help. There is a fleet of researchers out there who will bust you within minutes. 2) Don't attempt to justify upholding the Constitution. The laws are the laws. You don't have to insult anyone or engage in hyperbole to do your job. Stick to what is being asked of you and mention that Congress is in charge of changing any unjust laws or any other law if we as a society have migrated away from the values that influenced the laws we have today.

What makes you think he would listen to you when he has already hired all of the "best" people and yet still does not listen to them. Maybe if you were his daughter. Dont lie, lmfao yea right.

I didn't say he would listen to me. I'm just telling you what I would say to him.

I do wonder if he'll explain why the government is shutdown over a wall that the US isn't supposed to be paying for. Shouldn't the Mexican government be in a shutdown?

I suppose it would depend on how they would pay us. Cash or check? But should we wait for their money (stipulating a hypothetical situation where Mexico would pay for it) or should we go ahead and build it anyway? Doesn't it require an appropriation by Congress regardless of the revenue side?

He could say, we're working on it with Mexico but in the meantime, I want to move forward. Securing our border is not contingent on Mexico's money or my campaign promise.

Or that we've only spent about 10% of the funds currently designated for a wall that he was already given as an olive branch. If that number were 90% he might have a point. I think some wall is necessary but a full barrier along the border is not necessary and won't stop what he thinks it will stop. Drugs and all of that other stuff is making its way here just fine through ports and shipping routes. The "wall" is just a distraction for his base.

Rand Paul, a hero of the Pepe crowd just betrayed them and said you don't need a wall to stop illegal immigration but rather remove incentives for those immigrating.

Implement universal e-verify and punish companies for illegal labor usage and the illegal immigration will slow to a crawl, with or without a wall.

The only way to eliminate the criminal element and drug trade is to eliminate the demand. Will a wall eliminate drug users desire to get high? Will it eliminate their disposable income to buy the illicit drugs? How 'bout prostitution?

It's hard to accept that this is just some sort of political distraction when we have MILLIONS of poor people already over here with more on the way every day. He didn't just start his immigration enforcement when Mueller was knighted. Anyone can completely paralyze the matter by acting like other problems are more important. The fact is; he's working on many fronts. The base as you say is only asking for the law to be enforced.

It's interesting; what does a distraction for the base mean anyway? It completely belittles them for one. It marginalizes the problem and it is not a marginal problem. To me it's obvious there is coordinated obstruction (sanctuary cities, tipping off would-be deportees, calls to abolish ICE) and instruction (ask for asylum) going on by powerful people on the Left. Is this for their base or are we to assume they are just kind-hearted people? I don't buy it. I do in some cases but the demographic coming from Mexico is the exact opposite of the true feminist progressive Liberal. They don't like those people. You can't tell me otherwise. And enjoying a taco on occasion is not liking them.

I agree we need to eliminate incentives. It will never be perfect. Immigration enforcement should be a portfolio with a variety of initiatives to tamp down the problem.

Do you ever get the feeling like Trump and his supporters keep focusing on the WALL while everyone else wants to talk about the "portfolio"? From my perspective, that's the start of the misalignment.

It's unconscionable that the "wall" somehow became the centerpiece of a campaign but Trump and his supporters boxed themselves in. Furthermore, Trump "guaranteed" that Mexico would pay for the wall, dozens of times.

Here is a video of him saying it. Trump: I guarantee Mexico will pay for the wall

I'm not denying his guarantee. I know he said it. I would never have said that just knowing the Mexican culture for one, but two, that's just setting yourself up for failure. You need wiggle room. The wall is what is on the table right now. What else should he ask for? More money to audit and punish employers? Buy a fleet of drones and drone pilots?

I think securing the border is huge. I guess I don't understand the objection to the wall. Aren't we talking about $5 Billion? Since when did we all of a sudden try to do a cost/value analysis? I think he's trying to funnel people to the right entrance points.

I have good friends with ranches down in South Texas. They are very alarmed at the foot traffic trespassing on their land. That problem is very real and it's not an over-staying your VISA issue. They want it to make it that much more difficult just to cross over and hike through their/our land.

I guess it just doesn't bother you that much. It's interesting to me how people come to different conclusions.

You are right that securing our border isn't contingent on Mexico's money. That's obvious, but that's why the promise of Mexico paying for the wall was stupid. As I've said before, I'm indifferent on the wall. The cost isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, and it certainly won't make the problem worse. My problem is that it has become the centerpiece of the broader immigration and border security issues and sucked all the oxygen out of the room for a serious discussion of those issues, and that's ridiculous. E-verify should be, and of course, if we created the private civil action I've pitched here before, probably 95 percent of illegal immigrants would be gone by the end of the week.

It gets really tiring watching those on the anti-POTUS side constantly demonstrate that they have made up their minds before even listening to content. Even more tiresome is the lack of meaningful solutions being proposed by those same persons...I guess that gets in the way of the left making up their own ****.

I wish he would say, "illegals are coming across our border. This is against the law. It is my responsibility to enforce the law. I am going to fulfill my responsibility to the American people. I would like the people who supported securing the borders previously to assist me in this important effort. Thank you and God Bless America."

Then sit back and watch the Democrats response.

I'm sick of the whole thing. Yes Trump has told some whoppers but jeez the responses have been disproportional to the ninth degree. The changed Democrats attitudes are insane, and yes I do realize that if the Dems were in power the Repubs might likely be just as absurd. Sick, sick, sick.
