The First 100 days

Trump may be the most peace promoting President we have had since Grover Cleveland. His foreign policy is very old Right, old Republican.

We need to end all these interventions around the world. Let nations determine their own way forward. Only get involved if there is a direct threat to the US. Not US business interests in those countries either. That is the hook that gets this country into problems the most.

If we make a deal with the Taliban to end that war, how does it get spun to be a bad thing?

That's easy. If we leave, the Taliban will allow Afghanistan to become a major safe haven and base for international terrorists and their operations like they were before we sent troops to Afghanistan. I'm not going to judge it that way without looking at the specifics of any negotiated agreement, but it'll be easy to put that spin on it.

Of course, we'll also hear that the Taliban will butcher any Afghan who cooperated with the United States. And who the hell are we kidding? Of course they will.

Almost every democracy on the planet shed blood to get there
My country certainly did
I dont know how you guys look at Russia, but no question a lot of blood was shed to get to wherever it is you got

I rarely give you credit for much, but that sphincter occasionally releases some wisdom. For all the absurd ball licking you dish out for Trump, you at least don't embrace the moronic, history-illiterate Ron Paul mentality that some Trump supporters embrace.

To soothe your sphincter fetish on a Sunday

I agree with Obama . And Pelosi DiFi Durbin Schumer etc etc

What changed?
They need the votes, but, more importantly, they can't allow a Trump victory.

If we were attacked in a Pearl Harbor or 9/11 way, they would oppose trump wanting to declare War.

It doesn't matter what he does or says. They will oppose everything.

We basically adopted that strategy in the 1920s and early '30s. It didn't end well.

It was fine from 1776-1920s. We are not in the same situation as the 20s or 30s. Nukes changed the game.

I've seen a whole lot of military equipment getting shipped out of the Port of Corpus Christi the last few days. I looked up the ships carrying some of it and the next port of call is listed as Baltimore----in May.

Hmmmmm----methinks something may be up.

While I am generally very desirous of seeing commies getting slapped around, it has generally not served anybody's best interests to get involved militarily in Latin America, at least since the joyous events of 1845-47 in Mexico.

A lot of the problems in central America are the results of the US constantly intervening there on behalf of corrupt oligarchies and their murderous militaries. Remember when Saint Ronnie's delightful Secretary of State explained that perhaps the military thugs who murdered the US citizen Maryknoll missionaries may have just been returning their fire? O for the good old days when we could just go in and murder some people and nobody noticed!!!!

El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras. About the only place down there where we haven't engaged in national problem solving is Costa Rica. Ever been there? No poverty, no army. They have national health care, social security, a literacy rate as high as ours, etc. They had the good luck to have had their civil war at a time when Harry Truman was president and a good guy won. Jose Figureres. Look him up

Maduro is a POS but he is their POS and we should use diplomacy, not the military. Hopefully Trump will actually follow through on his promises to stay out of other peoples' business. But with John Never Seen a War He Didn't Want to Start Bolton in the house, who knows?

Obviously you are a Putin-lovin, Russian commie plant. We need to kill a few hundred thousand commies and destroy what's left of the infrastructure to set them free so that they can reap the rewards of freedom.

The fact that no one in the entire US media apparatus has stuck a mic in front of their fat faces and forced them to answer this one simple but important question shows just how in the tank they are. How can none of this ask this?

We need to blow it all up and start over from scratch

There is a new NBC/WSJ poll out

Dear Nancy's negatives shot up during government shutdown more than any politician, more than any other politician tested in the survey

Trump took a lot of criticism for this position too (or, stated another way, several posters in here got this wrong too)

"President Trump’s repeated demands that NATO ramp up its military spending have had an impact, the organization’s leader said Sunday, and member countries have agreed to add billions of dollars to their defense budgets over the next two years.

“Now we see the results,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told “Fox News Sunday.”

By the end of the next year, NATO allies will add 100 billion extra U.S. dollars for defense. So we see some real money and some real results and we see the clear message from President Trump is having an impact,” he continued. “NATO allies have heard the president loud and clear. NATO allies are stepping up.”....."

Jens Stoltenberg says NATO heard Donald Trump ‘loud and clear,’ will increase defense spending

You’ve obviously never been to Costa Rica.

Been to Costa Rica several times. Great place, very little poverty
Wrong, the population living in poverty is over 20%. In addition, the social security system is severely flawed and unsustainable. The medical services are decent but the waiting times are terrible, but don't let the facts intrude on your socialist fantasy.

Bull. ****. Study the US motivation for entering WW1. There was no interest for the US to enter, except for Colonel House was going to lose his money in England if they lost. Good thing he had the ear of Wilson. Then study the effect Wilson had on the Versaille Treaty. You could actually say Wilson set Europe up for fascism and Nazism. Okay that was in 1918. But the 20s and 30s didn't happen in a vacuum. WW2 happened because of WW1 which happened because of national rivalry due to government economic intervention (at least a piece).

Plus, the Bolsheviks never take over Russia without the US entering WW1. American entry into that war kept it going. That war ends a year earlier without the US involvement. That means Czar gets out of the war and is able to deal with Russian unrest better.

The US excused much violence in its rivalry with the USSR, but what is never said is that the US had a hand in the creation of the USSR. Then FDR planned much of his New Deal on what Stalin was doing.

No Deez. The problem with the 20 century wasn't too little government intervention in the world, but too much.

Wow! Sources?

Nukes made a big impact, but the real change was the US becoming a major economic power. That meant foreign trade. You can't trade unless ships and people can be secure in crossing oceans as opposed to being attacked by pirates. You can't do that without a powerful Navy. That was the big difference-maker for the British and for the United States.

During the 5 weeks of the Shutdown --

Dow rose 10.2%
S&P rose 7.2%
NASDAQ rose 13.1%
Dollar Index held steady
Gas at the pump fell a dime
And Unemployment Applications fell to the lowest since 1969

Unbelievable that a company could perform so poorly and still keep the contract.
I wonder if the contract can be voided?
