The failure to play Buechele

It's going to be nice having 2 back up QB's with experience next year when Thompson gets here to run this offense like it's meant to be run.

Yea, right.
Better hope Thompson stays healthy then.
Because he will have a freshman backup after the two experienced QBs transfer.
Hopefully, we can finally redshirt a QB next year.

He could be a Tebow, someday. He is a very talented competitor who happens to be a freshman trying too hard with dumb and costly
mustakes. He simply is not ready between the ears.

By forcing him on the team and fanbase they are setting him up for more failure and it puts him in a bad place. When coaches fear quarterback controversy and try to protect their favorite quarterback over another they end up hurting both. It is understandable to bring a true freshman along slowly and give him time to develope. But when he is put in situations where he repeats game losing mistakes like he did last Friday, fans and some of his teamnates are going to turn on him. It really isn’t fair to him, but allowing these mistakes isn’t fair to the team either.

Sam needs to make better decisions. Each time he has thrown a pass up for grabs with an interception Tom says it won’t happen again. Then it does. Not good enough. It is time to ride the pine and grow up. He can be great, but getting repeated forgiveness for these mistakes is unacceptable and will not make him better.

Texas has two very fine young men at quarterback who are good enough, if and when the rest of the offense, including coaching, steps up. There is no need to cause either one to fail or give reason to transfer. Perhaps fans and coaches should learn from what happened 90 miles down the road when three quality QB’s walked. That happens when open and fair competion is not honored. Mack repeatedly passed on future NFL quartebacks in recruiting because of fear of potential quarterback competition. He lost a chance to play for a MNC when he stayed with Simms too long against CO in the B-12 championship. (His biggest downfall might have been his failure to manage the quarterback position.)

Over the years programs with great runs usually managed the quarterback position with development and planned transition.

We haven't had a coach good at managing quarterbacks for awhile. Also in Tebow's freshman year they didn't start him, they eased him in on a package. His sophomore year he was amazing.

Freshman is no excuse as Shane didn't make those kind of mistakes as a freshman.

I also don't think coach really competed these kids in spring/fall. He never gave Shane his due. He waited until he could get away with getting Sam in there (Shane's shoulder injury) and then kept trying to force Sam on team/ fanbase hoping he would click. I think one of Herman's biggest failings is his stubbornness/ arrogance.

I hope Shane doesn't transfer, but I wouldn't blame him if he did. I liked your post by the way.

P.s. I live in Arizona and while I have access to the Longhorn Network I don't have access to the talk radio circuit in Austin/ the Kool Aid. I think that is where my perspective comes from.

Don't take this wrong, but you lost all credibility with me on this post.

@BigBull

No worries ... I didn't know either. Didn't care. Perhaps I have lingering apathy issues after Friday's pitiful performance. But since it's been raised ... what's wrong with B10? SMH.

Don't take it the wrong way, but you have nothing worth contributing because you are not aware of an abbreviation for a conference in the NCAA ... a conference in a league which is changing faster than aggy changes drawers.

I guess everyone has their own perspective. For some, B1G has referenced the Big 10 since God spoke with Moses on the Mountain.

Carry On.

Stidham would have really helped imo

The day Tom Herman resorts to paying street agents for players, I shall personally go to his house, pack it up, and drive the moving van somewhere outside of the CenTex, where another driver can take it wherever, as long as it is farther away.
