Texas @ Wyoming in 2009

Statalyzer,
Yes I realize that. That is why I would like to schedule a better opponent than the mighty Wyoming Cowboys. We are scheduling scared. Ark is decent but dont confuse them for Florida or USC.

I would prefer playing the UNM Lobos. While Abq is not super cool, they have casinos. Then there is Santa Fe nearby, only an hour away. Scenery, clear night skies, great weather. Oh, and the food!

My guess is this isnt about being scheduling scared but about money. Texas makes more money I am betting from playing ULALA than playing Ohio State.

Puddle Cruiser,
You may not have cute stickers on your truck - but you just went mountain dew on a football board.... rotflmao, and not "with" you. Zero trace certified camper? That means you actually took some kind of class/test and went through some kind of paperwork to claim yourself a zero trace certified camper. That's great and green and all, but your now the reigning nerd on the board. Travel smack down! Samantha Brown would be proud......

I am afraid that Greg Davis pulls a hammy in that game. That or the players fail to execute, catch passes or block.

i too am scared for Greg Davis.. if his defense fails to perform like that again, I think we should fire him.

Isn't the speed limit in Wyoming something like 255 per hour?
A drive to the opposite side of the state should be a breeze.

I am glad UT will be playing in laramie since I live in Fort Collins...

The post on Mack's website says "Texas announces five future games"....they might as well have said Mack will get five more wins in the upcoming seasons.

With this kind of scheduling 10 win seasons just don't mean as much as they used to. I believe you now need to average 11 wins a season to be considerd an elite program.

WOW! I can't believe this is already on page 5!

I must side w Puddle/Cruiser on the fact that Yellowstone isn't a one-day side trip from Laramie. But IF you have the time and haven't visited any of Wyoming's incredible areas, DO make the effort. I got all excited about taking a few days off and driving Mrs NebLHAB over scenic roads I've driven on business, but you really don't blast along the pretty roads unless you have a death wish. The map may say its only 39 miles from the S entrance of Yellowstone to Old Faithful, but at a max of 45 MPH, winding roads and traffic, you won't get there in an hour. That early in Sept the weather shouldn't be a problem, but you'll be wise to keep it in mind and check ahead. Don't miss the Wind River Range on US 20 from Shoshoni to Thermopolis (or visit the hot springs at Thermopolis). Or the Big Horns (WY 14 from Lovell to Sheridan or WY 16 from Worland to Buffalo) The Indian Medicine Wheel is off WY 14, but WAY off the highway on a seasonal road but worth the visit. Same for Cody & the Cody Museum there plus some historic buildings downtown. IF you do head toward the mountains, keep an eye on all the ravines you pass. You might be surprised how many antelope you'll spot there and sometimes mixed in w cattle in an open pasture. One scared the snot out of me, all folded up taking a rest less than a yard from the shoulder of I-29. THAT'LL get your heart rate up.

For whomever asked, the speed limit, at least on the interstates, is 75. The poster was probably thinking about Montana's higher limits.

We'll make the game but go back and take our time touring Wyoming when we can do it properly.

I have absolutely no explanation as to why, but I have always wanted to play Wyoming. I think this is awesome and I'm going to try to make that trip.

Southeastern Wyoming is not beautiful, at least not to me. Laramie is a long way from the Tetons and Jellystone.

For the record, I believe Wyoming’s field is the highest elevation of any in D-1 football.

If you want Mountains, it seems the better bet would be to go to Rocky Mountain National Park on the way. It is only around 2 hours south of Laramie. You could fly into Denver - rent a car and easily spend some time in the mountains on the way. Denver is only 150 miles of interstate away from Laramie. This game might actually help with the Colorado recruits. There is a pretty big population base within 2 hours of this game.

The altitude has Steel Shank very, very concerned.

Bill in Sinton, do you think the team should do some high altitude practicing before the game? Maybe up on Mt. Bonnell?

You can get all worked up and make sure you hit Yellowstone, the Tetons, or Rocky Mtn Ntl Park if you must (which are all amazing, no doubt), but you won't be disappointed to hang out in the Snowy Range outside of Laramie or the mountain ranges just over the border in Colorado. Like I said earlier, we lived for several years in Fort Collins and eventually started skipping the big national parks and started hiking/camping/fishing in the various mountain ranges between us and Laramie. Nearly as beautiful and much more isolated.

Wish we'd gotten Idaho to fill the spot.

I've always wondered what a Vandal looks like and traveling to Moscow to play the game sounds pretty damn intimidating - and cold I guess

Hagy: Compared to our 450 miles W on I-80 across Nebraska, I find SE Wyoming worth driving across. Not saying it's breathtaking but easily as interesting as following the Platte River across Nebraska.

On your point about the stadium's altitude, HOLY ****! :The Link

"Elevation Information
Wyoming's War Memorial Stadium is the highest stadium in the county at over 7,200 feet (7,220 feet to be exact)."

That's as high as we camp in Colorado when preparing to climb 14ers.

I usually try to go to at least one road game a year and '09 would normally mean going to Stillwater (been the last 4 times) but I leaning towards changing that planning and going to Wyoming instead. Should be a fun game to go to. Im going to CU this season.

As a Wyoming native and a UT grad I am very excited.

Wyoming doesn't have quite the football tradition Texas has, but they have more than you might think.

Consider that when Texas plays that game, War Memorial Stadium will be the equivalent of the third largest city in the state. Consider also that nearly 7% of the state's population will be at the game.

Wyoming has had some good teams in the past as well - especially when Paul Roach was the coach back in the late 80's and some of the 60's teams were very good nationally.

Wyoming has also produced a number of very good to great head football coaches including Fred Akers, Bob Devany, Dennis Erickson, Pat Dye, and Joe Tiller

Not to mention, Curt Gowdy is an alum

While I don't think Wyoming has much of a chance to win, if they do it will be because of the following:

1.) This will be the biggest game ever played in Wyoming, the atmosphere should be great.
2.)The Stadium is at 7,200 ft. Texas will be sucking air, if you think teams have a hard time coming to Mile High stadium to play, Laramie is worse.
3.) Its not easy to get to Laramie - Fly into Denver and then a 2-3 hour drive. And if the team stays in Laramie, its not like there is a Hilton anywhere nearby, so the players won't be as well rested as they might be used to.
5.) Laramie is the coldest place on the face of the earth. Ok there is a bit of hyperbole there, but it is damn cold. and very--no EXTREMELY--windy. Tell Mack Brown to take a bit of advice from Mackovic to take the wind not the ball.
6.) The players will probably not respect Wyoming very much.

I can see how UT fans might be a bit disappointed from a purely football perspective, but if you take a bit of time to visit the state, you may just have a great time, and the game, granted the atmosphere won't be like UT on game day but it will be fun.

I challenge all of you to take the buckhorn role.

Roach- are the Cowboy fans hospitable to visitors or are they like the classless ucf bunch? Also, isn't Jay Novacek an alum?
