Texas @ Wyoming in 2009

Schnellenberger's still coaching Fla. Int., right? That's another team that won its bowl game and looked good doing it. People need to get over this idea that if the school has a direction in its name, that means it's not worth scheduling.

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't have a huge problem with this. Yeah it's not Ohio State, but it's also not Arkansas St, or a Texas or Louisiana directional school. At least it's something different.

We have to be very careful with Wyoming. They could be tough. Remember we played them in 1978 and struggled to beat them 17 to 3. I am not writing this to alarm anyone but we must be careful.

Living in Nashville, I'd love to see the Horns play Tenn, Vandy, or hell I'd even drive down to Tuscaloosa to see them play.
I was planning on driving to Lafayette, but now my plans are foiled.

Hang in there. But we must remember. The game in 1978 was in Austin while in 2009 it is in Wyoming. That increases the risk. I don't think Texas has ever played a game in the state of Wyoming either.

I like this much better than playing ULaLa.

It amazes me that so many people are surprised repeatedly that we aren't scheduling powerhouses.

How many times will you be surprised? We go through this every single year.

if we are going to schedult crappy teams, i would prefer cool destinations...wyoming, colorado st., UNLV, Hawaii, S. Florida, Washington, San Diego St., Montana St., others?

"I don't think Texas has ever played a game in the state of Wyoming either."

So, Bill in Sinton, will that mean we won't have played them AT NIGHT either? At NIGHT in WYOMING? Has that ever happened?

Gotta start looking at hotel options in Laramie.

Virginia went up there last season and got their asses beat, and they were in the top 20 all year. Just sayin'. We should be much better in 2009 though.

Laramie is a true western town and the country around it is beautiful in the mountains. If you like the feel of the old west, it will be an fun trip.

You wouldn't drive 5 - 6 hours to see Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons? You must not get outdoors much.

This may not be a great football trip, but if you've never been to Yellowstone or the Grand Tetons, you've missed some fabulous sights. I can assure you that it's worth a few hours drive to get there.

We'll likely just make a couple of weeks' vacation out of the trip, sandwiching it in between the football weekends on either side of the Wyoming game. It will be a great trip.

I was in Laramie in Sept last year. It wasn't too cold, but very dry and windy at night. And if you are really brave (comfortable flying) might I suggest taking the 6am flight from Laramie to Denver. If you can land and not run to the bar for straight liquor at 8am.. you are tougher than I am.

And seriously, getting a cab there sucks. The 1 cab company centered out of Laramie closed while I was there. By luck I found a cab company in Cheyenne which had a driver that lived in Laramie and ended up giving it to the Holiday Inn people for future reference.

Additional notes, people are very nice out there.

The point isn't that Laramie or Wyoming sucks. They don't suck; they're freaking awesome. I lived in Fort Collins Colorado for several years and we routinely chose to head to the unpopulated mountains, trails, lakes and campsites in Wyoming rather than deal with the hordes and tourists in Colorado. Just outside of Laramie is the Snowy Range which will satisfy any person's mountain fix. It ain't the Tetons or Yellowstone, but it's great nonetheless and certainly worth the trip to the game.

Anyway, the point is that Texas' OOC scheduling continues to be disappointing. Yeah, I'd rather have Wyoming than LaLa, but why are those our choices? I understand Arkansas backed out, and I really wouldn't be upset in the slightest if we consistently scheduled good OOC teams to play. But we don't. No matter how you spin Central Fla or Fla Atl or whatever, they don't cut it.

I'm not surprised, Stat, but I am consistently disappointed.

If you know of anyone suffering from an incurable disease with only a few years to live, encourage them to make the trip. A day in Wyoming feels like an eternity.......

The only passable part of this deal is the 2-for-1. I don't blame him because of the bad position the Hogs put UT in, but is anyone really surprised?
