Texas WBB 2024-2025 Season

If anyone on this board truly knows the game better than Vic Schaefer, they’ve left a lot of money on the table. But part of being a fan is thinking we know better than the coach despite the balance in our bank accounts.

It’s all good. :bevo:
I guess you didn't see the part about differing perspectives not making anybody right or wrong... they're just opinions.

1. Holle is not a two guard... period!
2. 2018 NCAA Championship... Should have used that foul to give rather than allowing Ogunbowale to take TWO dribbles up the sideline and hit that buzzer beater.

Not a 2 guard. Period! That always makes me think open to differing perspectives. Especially with the exclamation point. I like most of posts and posters on here, but I’m not sure what this current line of comments is about. We have a few that choose to only see the glass half empty. And even fewer (but so much more annoying) who post in a vacuum. Whatever. If you’re gonna post, you should expect that someone might respond to your post with a different perspective. It’s not rocket science. It’s a fan board. Criticizing someone virtually is like p-ing into the wind. If I get wet, that’s on me. Taking anything on here personally truly is a waste of time.

Nobody's taking anything personally.. just further expressing opinions. Typically we agree on most things, but in this instance evidently we do not. I'm good with that. I still appreciate and respect your input.

*Holle... good player, good athlete, and a great example for younger players to follow. She has a tremendous work ethic, the absolute best team first attitude, and it's almost impossible to measure her value to our team. She is that important to what we do. She's been asked to play different roles at different positions, and she's always given 1,000% in all she's been asked to do. My opinions about positions on the team are no more than just that... and they certainly don't come from a place of blame or dislike toward Shay. She's an amazing young woman.

From where I sit, you want someone like Holle on the court wherever you can get her in. Vic refers to her as the glue. If you have her backing up Booker then she’d barely hit the floor. Hence, the two. But I even hesitate to say two because best I can figure in the current women’s game the only two positions that are truly set are PG and C. 2-4 are more about matchups.

I also should point out that at my age I can barely keep the screen names straight. I may agree with one post and disagree with the next and not realize it was from the same poster. :smile1:

One exception being our friend from the rainy northwest who seems to have gone quiet with all this winning. Or maybe I blocked them… I really can’t remember.

I think Shay Holle is a great Longhorn; and, she has given everything she has to Texas.

But, she was not a starter to begin the 2023-24 season as Harmon, Gonzales and Booker were the starting back court; it wasn't until Harmon got injured in December that Holle stepped into a starter role. This season, all indications were the Phelia would be a starter over Holle with a healthy Harmon and Booker. Phelia's injury opened the door for Holle to start.

Holle can do a lot of things very well; creating her own shot is not one of them. No one can deny she's been struggling with her offense this season; too many games where we are playing 4 on 5 offense as her 3-point shot wasn't falling until she hit one against Mizzou.

I'm so disappointed Phelia won't play again this season. Very odd injury where she played in a few games in November and December, and then stopped playing. I see most time on the bench she doesn't wear any goggles. We could definitely use her offense and maturity; without her, it's another season where we don't have our best players available.

This makes it easier for the opponent's defense to key in on Booker and Harmon.

DeYona Gaston scores 31 points today at South Carolina. Wish she would have stayed at Texas as we never got an entire season of a healthy Gaston which she seems to be now at Auburn.

When you take nearly half of the team’s shots, your numbers will increase. I doubt that would have ever been the case here. Her overall FG% has actually gone down just a tad. But I’m glad to see her getting to shine on her new team. I always liked her.

Auburn is 11-11/ 2-7

If nothing else, it shows a lot of respect for Texas, bolstered by our 6-game win streak.

Only the Tourney itself will make-or-break our season, but these next 4 games will make-or-break our seeding.

Rich folks discussion on Holle. She’s a warrior. She didn’t feel good recently …….you could see her dealing with a cold/flu. I’m more worried about Moore. As frustrating as she can be, I’m appreciating her more since her latest missed games. Jak has played better in a starting role ……guess she doesn’t feel like she has to shoot it on her first touch …..with more time on the floor. However, with Phelia and Moore out…..this team is missing a huge percentage of its pre-season projected upside. There’s a reason (s) girl’s basketball has 15 scholarships vs 13 for boys. You can take it to the bank that a few of your key players will be hurt during the season. Next girl up. But next girl up is not as good as first girl. As the games get closer in The Dance, Moore is more important. Wish I was more optimistic.

Boy, these predictions seem to be wildly optimistic. I mean, I hope for the best, but I have seen some ladies play on these teams that are super players. Unless Texas scouts well and battens down the hatches on these playmakers, it will be a tough row to hoe.

Jak has contributed a lot to the games as a starter. I know she had her 7 TO game, but her stat line was also quite long that game, And in the last three games, Jak has scored in double figures. You have to go back to the Arkansas game to see Moore scoring in double figures as a starter. What I think we are missing the most with Moore is her voice on the floor, her drive and her passion to push the team and get them all riled up. She's a great leader in that regard, and I don't see that as one of Jak's strengths. However, when we have to pivot for injury, Jak is bringing additional scoring so far, and has equalled the rebound production of Moore as well. So we have lost a leader on the floor, but we have gained other attributes that will help us down the stretch. In the last game, we were 1 point shy of having all of our starters in double figures. When was the last time that happened? We need it to happen a lot down the stretch if possible, and I feel like the more starts that Jak gets, the better Jak we are going to see. I hate that we cannot have Aliyah, but am gratified that yet again, we have a bench and players that are ready to step in and take on rolls that they have really not been asked to play in the past. When has Jak been asked to play the 4 regularly before this season? Not a lot to my memory. And while she has the height and skills, she is playing out of her position, and doing it really well. You play with what you got, and we are blessed to have a lot. Hook'em.

All good thoughts. The competition gets tougher next few games. We’ll see soon enough if Jak can step up her game. From sub to starter minutes is a big step. Right now, I’m not sure. Hope so. Patience and good decisions are what I’m sure Schaefer is preaching to her. If she can, it will set Horns up for late season run. Especially if Moore can return.
