Texas vs West Virginia game thread

Not a good game for Jones to be out and Davis to go down early. Going to have to outscore them because the defense looks incapable of getting a stop

Unfortunately for us, Joel Klatt doesn’t know the rule. He is right that the horse-collar rule does not apply to a runner or potential passer in the tackle box, but the rules expressly states that the tackle box disintegrates when the ball leaves it. Rule below. It is NCAA Rule 9-15.

All players are prohibited from grabbing the inside back collar of the shoulder pads or jersey, or the inside collar of the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, and immediately pulling the ball carrier down. This does not apply to a ball carrier, including a potential forward passer, who is inside the tackle box (Rule 2-34). Note that the tackle box disintegrates when the ball leaves it.

Grier was inside the tackle box and even if he was outside the box he was not pulled down by the inside of the shoulder pad. Bad call costing at least 7 points

He had thrown the ball is the point. And he was clearly horse collared base on the replay I saw — especially since the rule now applies to pulling down around the name plate. That was added in 2017 — it may not be in the rule I cited above, but unfortuantely I think that was the correct call. Trust me, I love to argue bad calls. See posts from last week regarding false start on the Okie State punt. That’s one we need to let go in my humble opinion.

Anyone else not like the kick-off fair catch rule? I get the point of the rule, but it seems to take away a kicker who can put it high.

Hope our offense can keep it up. Defense is playing like a light breeze in West Virginia’s face, they barely even feel it.
