Texas vs West Virginia game thread

DAMN YOU HERMAN!!!

This one is on you!!!

If you disagree tell me why?

TH you know it will be O shootout at the end.

WV can score fast, your D has starters out and generally cannot stop them, D players are tired, its late. You play too conservative to a team like this at the end and you LOSE at the end like we did.

Terrible Big XII officiating and bad coaching decisions. In a game where you have to run out the clock you go for the long pass play. All you need is to run out the clock and kick a field goal. Suspect coaching at best.

You take that free TD to Duvernay every time. There was less than 3 minutes left. There's no guarantee that you get any closer to the end zone. Our defense is obviously to blame.

In two weeks we go from at least being mentioned for a possible CFP berth to not having to worry about being embarrassed in the CCG. Let this abortion of a season end...we cannot beat anyone convincingly and lately we cannot beat anyone to begin with.

Critical coaching decisions:
Time out giving inbreds kicker a second chance
Running wide on second and .5 yds at the goal line.
Any defense called by Orlando

Look at the stats when both corners came back into the game last week and get back with me. Besides, weren't you one of the anti-Sam guys?
I’ll get back to you right now. While he played much better today, apparently you missed the two TDs that Boyd allowed in Stillwater.

And by the way, if you have been reading my posts, I have already conceded — multiple times and for many weeks — that I was wrong about Sam. I even praised him about midway through the game today. His performance has been outstanding, and I now believe him to be one of the better QBs in the country.

Well, all losses are on coaches, at least the good ones will say that, so I am not sure you are doing anything but stating the obvious. But here are my reasons:

1). Sam’s development is nothing short of awesome. I’m not sure if you were in the Buechelle camp at the beginning year, but many were.
2). The offense played awesome.
3). The effort and spirit of the football team is inspired. Yes, our defense is not playing well right now, but they are banged up. That doesn’t totally make up for it, but context matters.
4) Any football game is a collection of plays. In hindsight, it is easy to say he should’ve gone for it, but what would you have said if it had failed like WVU’s had and then WVU won by three at the end? Folks on this board in the past have said in those cases that Herman should not have gone for it and should’ve taken the points. Yes he knew this was an offensive shootout in the first half, but things had slowed in the second half for whatever reason. For whatever reason, his instincts (which I would submit are a bit more honed than yours or mine — although you might be Bill Belicheck for all I know) told him to kick it. He did.

Even the best coaches make mistakes. If you are convinced that he did, maybe think about cuttting him slack given his record this year. Just a thought.

I was confused and now am not....Alamo Bowl here we come!
The best bowl we may get will be the Texas bowl in Houston. I don't think the Alamo will take us after more losses. Our defense really sucks now. I wonder if TO gets a raise after this year?

We could have won except for a couple of decisions by Herman and the officials. Bad marking the ball. Sam had a first down reversed. The o-line did great. Too bad our defense is like a sieve. We need bigger d- lineman.

I’m mainly surprised at the lack of run defense. When one opponent averages 13.1 yds/carry somethings wrong.....
We have no depth in the front seven and any injuries there are devastating especially to the run d. The linebackers ran themselves out of plays taking horrible angles creating lanes and the d-line got no penetration. I can’t explain the bad tackling this year when it was excellent last year (for the most part)

It's not a good defense but at the same time it's not bad. You do know Boyd is a semi-finalist for the Jim Thorpe award, right? You were wrong about Sam and you are wrong here.

We got beat by a good football team, it stings. The ref's were equally awful in this game, so I dont think we can pin this on them. Not saying we will, but if both UT and WVU win out, there will be a rematch in Dallas (we would have the head to head vs. ou)

I never doubted they would convert that 2pt conversion.

I guess i just had some false faith that the coaching staff could get it fixed....

I have not read any of the earlier posts.

We lost. We will lose again, maybe this year.

I had fun watching. That’s what sports are about. I am sure recruits had fun.

We are so much better than last year, than the year before. Enjoy the journey ... :smokin:

When Grier is mentioned as a Heisman candidate, I hope people will remember his horrible sportsmanship in this game at the end. Sadly, I doubt it will matter, but it should.
I have always been a fan of his. No more. Classless is classless. And that goes the rest of that crap from W VA.
Heisman voters do not care. Look at the piece of Sh - - from last year.

Garmel, I need to admit that you have a superior understanding of everything about the game of football, and about this Texas team.

This was the game that I picked us to lose at the beginning of the season though I thought it would be our first loss. I’m upset because the margin of error is gone and now we are dependent on someone else to get us to Dallas.

LOL! I really don't have superior knowledge it's just some of you would rather think emotionally than with your brain using facts.. Look, I'm not trying to be an *** but too many of y'all try to make snarky comments toward me(like you just did) backed up with nothing but feelings.

Just got home from the game. This stings more than any game at DKR in my life....that’s 58 seasons of attending UT football games. TH should be ashamed of himself. How many boneheaded play calls will we continue to suffer through? I still like him, but he has a ton of growing up to do as a coach at UT. Meanwhile, this year is in the sh**ter & we wait another yr or 2 with those “growing pains”!!!

Meh, that's based on very little given how many guys there are in the nation and how few of the voters have carefully watched more than a few of them. The winner usually deserves it because the frontrunners get enough attention/critique that they are going to quickly lose votes if they don't hold up to a high standard, but the semifinalist list is primarily hype and guesswork.

Relax 66-3 comes to mind

That's your belief. There's more to it than that.

I guess your philosophy is you can never score too quickly. I disagree. In a one possession game where your offense is in control and your defense is not, you do not want to give the last possession to the other team. Exactly what happened here.
