Texas vs. Vandy Division Title Game-CWS

Anyone else think barrera stands too far away from plate?
Also, why on earth hasnt augie sent johnson the last two times he's been on base!?!? He's perfect on the year....and lets be honest, barrera hasnt exactly been getting it done with the bat... even bunting.

At least vandy isnt afraid to run with 2 outs. I say just walk the little guy and take chances with #8 batter.

Curtis comes out for the tenth and how long can he go?

It's then Culbreth and then pretty much the great unknown.

Wiel bats leading off and he is a scary hitter.
A hard hit grounder to short is one away as Hinojosa stays steady at short.

Norwood bats righty with one down.
A sharply hit liner to center is taken by Payton for two away.

Wiseman bats with two down from the left side.
A liner to center is a single.

Out comes the Vandy head coach and changes are made.

A pinch hitter is Ro Coleman from the left side and very short of stature.
Wiseman steals second and that is what Johnson should have tried last inning.

Coleman back in with no strike zone.
Skip comes out for a visit and returns.

Coleman back in with the winning run on second.
He walks, what a shock. Eddie Gadell would be proud.

Ellison bats righty with two on and two outs.
He hit hiim with the first pitch to load the bases.

Campbell, the replacement third baseman bats with two down and the bases loaded.
A slow roller to short and Hinojosa charges and throws in one motion and he just beats it to end the game.

What a way to lose.

Vandy wins 4-3 and goes to the Championship Series.

I need a minute, that was hard to take.

Well crap.

Hey nobody thought we'd get this far so I for one am proud of these guys.

Very good season for the Horns. They played very hard the entire way and they should be proud. Beats the hell out of last place, that's for sure.

2 quick outs then the 6-7-8-9 batters all reach. Fml. Ohh well. Made it further than expected. Killer way to lose though. Here's to next year! And go uva. F the sec. At least its vandy though I guess. I dont have a reason to hate them except being in the sec.

Heartbreaking for me but wow, what a post season ride this team gave us. Congrats!!!! Nothing to hang your head about

Hate to lose that way. We just made too many mistakes, left too many runners on base. Virginia should be the favorite. No need watching these games.

what a weird way to lose an extra-innings game.

great post-season and the omaha run was a year early.

we got to this game and lost this game on the backs of freshmen. Omaha or bust next year.

It was a fantastic game with great plays and errors by each team.

Texas has every chance to win the game and each time they couldn't take the lead your heart sank a little further.
I kept thinking if we could ever take the lead then Vanderbilt would have all the pressure on them. We just couldn't do it due to many factors.

There are so many things you can point to about this game and the season. Watching this team would give a "sloth" high blood pressure. Every game nearly is low scoring and tight with the game on the line it seems almost on every play or even pitch sometimes.

I guess you can sum things up by saying if we can ever get some hitting to go with this kind of pitching we would be very hard to beat.

It did seem Vanderbilt was more aggressive in their attempt to score runs. We needed to try and manufacture runs and if it fails at least you tried. All the K's in big at bats really kill you.

It was a very good year, just hard to lose that way.

A big thanks to Nathan Thornhill and Mark Payton for their play and leadership as seniors, wish we could have won for them

I look forward to next year and what it brings, maybe some more offense hopefully.

Thanks to everybody on the baseball board this year. The game of baseball and Texas Longhorn Baseball means a lot to me and most of you too and it shows.

See you next season and of course still on the board in various forums too. Thanks to Orangeblood and Longhorn Girlie for this site they provide for us.

As always Hookem.

I enjoyed this game and all the others recently. So close to a different ending, but congrats to the team for the season.

Crushing end to a great run through the playoffs and CWS for the Horns. A lot of balls and calls went our way in Omaha, and it seemed like luck was on our side this year.
It ran out tonight, in a flawed game with numerous mistakes by both teams giving chances to win for both sides. We just gave up a little too much in this one.
Tough end to a great run fueled by the leadership of seniors Thornhill and Payton, a pleasure to watch all season.
Thanks guys, it was a fun season by a team which may have been a year away from greatness, but still almost reached the championship game.

i feel completely satisfied with the season except for the awful start at UCBerkeley

my only comment on the game tonight -

why didn't we try to move Johnson when he got on in the 10th?

i suppose with Johnson's speed, any base hit might score him from first, but having a runner in sure scoring position seemed the better move.

Great season Horns!! So very close....C.J., totally amazing!! Thanks for a great season...ready for next year!!

Thanks NB for a great season of updates. What a tremendous run by this team that basically saved what was otherwise a barely above average season with a late collapse that was all too familiar to the last two years. Four weeks ago when texas lost two straight to Okie State to crash out of the Big XII tourney you had to think the season would be coming to an end pretty soon. But somehow this team found some magic and made a run that was truly fun to watch. They overachieved getting out of a regional, then winning a super regional and then winning three straight in Omaha. But the ride had to end at some point and sadly last night was the time. Cant harp too much on the reasons behind the loss, too many errors and too many men left on base, no offense has been Texas' problem all year. When your pitchers have to be perfect all the time, you dont have the formula for consistent success. Texas continues to address this but really needs to find a few more bats to go with CJ and replace Payton.

Great job last night by Cooper and Duke both of whom will anchor our staff next year. That CJ hit in the top of the tenth was so close to being huge and with so many freshman on the team the future is bright.

I cant say enough about CJ and Chad and of course the great Mark Payton and Nathan Thornhill. They join the pantheon of Texas players who gave us great Omaha runs and for CJ and Chad this can be a building block for another run next year.

Last night hurt and you could see the pain on the players faces but it takes nothing away from an amazing post season run.

That was a stout run in the post-season. Many thanks to the players and coaches for such a memorable season, with much to look forward to!

"Until next time, good-night from Omaha, Nebraska":

Craig's Way's final sentence of the season.

Next time will be now before you know it.......

Great post-season run by Augie, Skip, Tommy and the team.

After the first month of the season, I would have never dreamed this team would have come within one win of playing in the Championship Series.

Next season, I'll probably be more of a believer.
