Texas vs Baylor game thread

I get the concept but the — “fall before you score to run out the clock” strategy — has to be taken in context. In this case I don’t see where it makes much of a difference. If he scores it’s 34-16 with less than two minutes left.

That's true, it probably doesn't matter. I still find it forward-thinking to go for the 100% chance even over the 99.999% chance, like when KSU was up 34-30 on Nebraska and scored a TD with 0:03 remaining. Bill Synder kneeled on the conversion and won 40-30, because if the kick was blocked and returned for 2 points, now it's only an 8-point lead and Nebraska could tie the game with a crazy kickoff return.

If we were chasing the playoffs then I'd say punch it in because, stupid as it is, it could matter. Or if Baylor were in the running for the CCG because point margin among tied teams is one of the tiebreakers (which lead to a ludicrous situation two years where if Oklahoma had been down 6 against WVU and scored a TD on the final play of the game, their best move would have been to kneel the ball so they could go to OT and have a chance to win by more points).

As it is, I like that we had our guys make a choice to sacrifice individual glory for the sake of the team, since that's a mindset we seem to have been short on for most of this season.

I think I disagree.
If you're running toward the end zone go ahead and see if you can score because that's what every kid's dream is scoring a touchdown.
Now if we're in the situation where we just kneel, the quarterback kneels after hiking the football that's a little different situation and I think that's perfectly good to run out the clock but if you're running towards the end zone just go ahead and score if you can. Maybe it will make a difference in rankings at the end of the season and thus a better bowl game in the end perhaps.

Not really. I know people who bleed burnt orange, attend games, buy the gear, donate to the program, and read HF daily — but never post. Hardcore fans.

I always found it weird when someone takes pride in their number of posts on a forum.

This is post #1687 for me in approximately 229 months. That works out to roughly 7.4 posts a month. That's not a resume that screams Mr. Know It All.
