Bama comes in undefeated as well through five games.

PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS
FRIDAY–
Texas LHP Pete Hansen (1-0, 0.00) vs. Alabama RHP Garrett McMillan (0-0, 6.00)
SATURDAY–Texas RHP Tristan Stevens (1-0, 0.00) vs. Alabama LHP Antoine Jean (0-0, 4.50)
SUNDAY–Texas RHP Tanner Witt (1-0, 1.80) vs. Alabama LHP Grayson Hitt (1-0, 0.00)

I did not realize the last time the Horns played Bama was twice in the '83 CWS on their way to winning it all, I remember watching the championship game as a seventh grader on ESPN and cheering on that Texas team with Clemens and Schiraldi.

Likely Bama starters for the series (based on 1st weekend series starters):

Garrett McMillan
6'4" 230 lbs
RHP
Transfer from Shelton State JC
12-0 with 2.68 ERA in JC
87 SO in 74 innings.

Big, strong pitcher
Throws the fastball, a tricky changeup that his coach calls "outstanding", and a late-biting 12/6 curveball.
Works quickly and efficiently.
Good control.
Batters will see lots of strikes and will either put the ball in play, or strike out.
Not many walks.

Played on Team USA in little league and traveled to Taiwan.

Bama's head coach Bohannon says about McMillan:

"He probably has the best command of anyone from our staff. He just throws a ton of strikes and can really command the ball. He’s gotten stronger, his secondary stuff has continued to get more crisp and he’s got an outstanding changeup and very competitive and he’s somebody that’s going to be in our top six or seven and have a big role in the weekend for us.”

Grayson Hitt
6'3" 195 lbs
LHP

Hitt has some good stuff, but his control is a bit spotty
16 SO and 15 walks in 18.1 innings last year
2-3 WL and a lousy ERA at Bama last year
2.018 WHIP at Bama last year
His numbers look noticeably worse on paper than the other two projected Bama starters.
Was ranked the 81st overall prospect in the 2020 MLB draft, so they're seeing some real potential there.

Fastball up well into the 90s
Pretty good curveball

Do you remember the infamous "LaLob"?

Start times listed on Texassports.com are as follows:

Friday 430pm
Sat 130pm
Sun 1pm

Are these correct? You said all the times have changed, but I know Sat was always 130pm. I'm going on Sat (brrrr) so just want to make sure I have the right time.

Was it Magadan or Will ??? from Miss State that Labay embarrassed with the LaLob to strike him out?

Looks like just the Friday and Sunday times were changed.

Somehow this has been just repeated enough to where everyone is saying it without thinking about what they are saying. Jeff Howe on The Horn said this morning "pay attention because all the times have changed" and then he only talked about the Friday game time.

Update - I just heard Craig Way say "some of the times have changed" so at least CW is still trustworthy.

Pete’s really throwing some good sinking action. Especially on that K to end the top of the 2nd. These Alabama batters are disciplined and are fouling balls off, and generally not making it easy.

The Ump’s giving Bama’s pitcher strikes when it’s a tad outside and low. As long as he does the same for Pete—> ok. I just ask for a consistent strike zone.

Kennedy’s hurt. Probably caused that weird error he made. Fortunately, Pete pitched his way out of the situation.

Haven't been able to watch any of the games yet but it seems that our pitching is going to keep us in a lot of games. Six games in and most of the scores have the opponents at or near 0.

If this plays through for the year we are going to be a tough out.

Really excited about this year. Pitching wins you championships.

This weather is not good for baseball. Bats cold on both sides. We've hit a couple of bombs to LF but the wind keeps blowing them back into play.
