Texas v. Alabama February 25-27, 2022

One of the reasons why Pierce is getting such good pitchers is he trusts them and today in the ninth he trusted Harrison even after the inning opening walk. In my season review last year I talked about Pierce trusting his pitchers and how that can be a blessing and a curse because it doesn’t always work but Pierce obviously isn’t changing his general philosophy of trusting his pitchers. With this staff having the knowledge Pierce trusts them they will have confidence and that will pay huge dividends when you have tense situations like today and yesterday.:hookem:

He’s a good pitcher , just never gets much of an opportunity to pitch which happens to a lot of the pitchers on the pitching staff!
You’ve got approx 20 plus pitchers on the roster of 35 players so you can figure how many will ever get a chance to show what they can do…maybe 6 ,7, or 8! Pierce has had a lot of really outstanding pitchers leave the program only to go to other big D1 schools and be in starting rotations

Nobody identifies and develops pitchers as well as Coach Pierce and Coach Allen. Best pitching staff in the nation. #1. Some of the best liked guys in the business as well.

Now with the NIL, who wouldn’t want to do their ‘minor league’ play in the best college town, surrounded by hot young women from all over the world, and get a world class education to boot. Beats the heck out of the cold hot dogs and roach motels of minor league life.

You make a good point but Allen is really not a “true” pitching coach … he was the hitting coach until Tulo was hired and if you talk to many MLB scouts or pitching coaches in other places they will tell you that Texas has the reputation of not developing pitchers … I’m speaking from firsthand knowledge ..

I respect your opinion but
You will notice that there are always Texas pitchers who are drafted and hardly ever pitched but must have tremendous upside or wouldn’t be drafted

We’ve developed the best pitching staff in the college game. We’ve left the only real in-state competition (Rice, Tech, DBU, TCU) in the dust. Young guys who were relievers, like Witt, move into starting positions. Also, anyone who says we don’t use many of our pitchers must not watch much UT baseball. We play pitchers deep into our staff. Southard played well late last year, and now he’s one of the first relievers we turn to. Another thing we do (that is not universally done) is stick with, and support, our guys who get hurt. DuPlantier was out all last year. Now he’s a starter and also used in relief. I believe Sthele was injured last year—-now look at him. One final thing is that UT pitchers get to work with really good catchers. That can make a difference.

There’s really nothing to complain about with UT’s pitching staff. Tops in the conference. Tops in the State. Tops in the Nation.

We’ve only played 7 games thus far, and we’ve put 14 pitchers on the mound.

14 of our pitchers have played already. That’s a lot of pitchers getting game time.

Just some facts.

This might be dumbest thing posted on this board in a while. I dont usually like to call out posters but you are just wrong.

Really, like who? Seriously name em because those of us who watch Texas baseball pretty dang religiously have seen Pierce and how he has developed pitchers and gotten them drafted the last several years and your comment is just a foolish statement with no factual support.

We’ve already played 14 pitchers. Nice try.

Rice guys are a lot smarter than you. TCU fans have more class. DBU folks are serious Christians who tend to not lie. I’m smelling Tech… or a Sooner…

Grayson Hitt
6'3" 195 lbs
LHP

Hitt has some good stuff, but his control is a bit spotty
16 SO and 15 walks in 18.1 innings last year
2-3 WL and a lousy ERA at Bama last year
2.018 WHIP at Bama last year
His numbers look noticeably worse on paper than the other two projected Bama starters.
Was ranked the 81st overall prospect in the 2020 MLB draft, so they're seeing some real potential there.

Fastball up well into the 90s
Pretty good curveball

Grayson Hitt had a good first game this year, but his WHIP last year was greater than 2. Look for lots of base runners. We’ve just got to drive them in. Go Hrnz!

3rd games in a series should be the time our superior pitching depth really shines. I think today's game will not be so much of a nail biter like we saw Friday and Saturday.

Speaking of trusting pitchers, Pierce stayed with Witt in top 6th even tho he had thrown 20+ pitches in the last 2 innings and bases were loaded. Witt struck out Diodati, who had homered earlier for Bamas 1st run of the weekend, on 3 pitches to end the threat.

I was just beginning to worry about our lack of hitting with runners in scoring position, but Faltine just came up with a two-run single to put the horns up 3-1.
