Texas' NCAA 2024 Tournament

Very unhappy with the home plate ump. She called a decent game. But when 2 outs and a perfect game on the line, she wouldn't give Mac a strike. Two of those 4 balls were truly strikes. I'm upset for Mac.

But that Sienna pitcher, while not that impressive, must have a hellacious spin on that ball. Everything went UP.

Texas Softball reminds me of the mentality that Texas Volleyball showed with the way they adjust.
Another very good game. :bevo:

Agreed. The mentality to still go after it in the 5th inning while playing under a heat lamp.
Good point just not the one I was making. I thought NW not throwing their ace Miller was to try and throw us off, or maybe just surprised me only..lol. Either way Coach had team ready. If we see them again we definitely will see Miller. :bevo:

I’ll take an ice cold Lone Star over a miller any day. Hell, for that matter, I’d take a Pearl over miller!
Sorry, got off topic. Hook ‘Em!!

Problem for them is (if Miller is really all that) we will see her for two HOT games in a row if they wish to advance.
Looks like Miller is their workhorse, often pitching many consecutive days during the season. And looks like their coach purposely held her out of the last two games in anticipation of unleashing her for today's game. Michigan St. transfer and this is her first year at Northwestern. 16-5, 1.37 ERA. I hope the heat plays in our favor.

Worst case scenario is we get 14 innings to figure her out. That's a whole lot of opportunities to adjust to whatever she is dishing up. The rest of their staff already demonstrated that they can't offer a severe threat to our lineup.

Horns up early 2-0 and still hitting in the top of 1.
Miller must be injured or something, but then again this is my first time seeing her pitch. Gives up 3 walks and a bases loaded 2 run single to Stewart.

One thing to say about the Big 10 and softball…..they are bad! Not a good year. Northwestern was the winner of the Big 10 regular season and pretty sad. 4 teams made the tournament, NW, Michigan, Penn State and Indiana. Michigan and NW did make it to the finals of the region and should be eliminated without a whimper.

I've always wondered about how most Northern teams seem to be not consistently strong. I've wondered if it's because they have cold and snow at the start of softball season they have to do most of their playing on the road. And not playing in your friendly confines of your home stadium makes them tired and not able to develop their skills better.

I asked Megan Bartlett if it was better coaching in the South compared to the North. She was once the HC of Ball State. And she laughed and said, "Oh yeah! I don't miss the Sunday redeyes back to campus". (I assume this was from playing team(s) somewhere warm)

Did you guys hear the shrill whistling that was happening as the first two pitchers for Northwestern were in their windup? I was thinking, "Oh god. Some bad UT fan is doing this. This is a bad look." NW had a "superfan" who had been there all weekend. Someone nicknamed him the "hype" man because he was always yelling very loudly in support of NW. He never yelled anything derogatory towards are players, but often questioned the umps.

He had almost lost his voice by Sunday, but he was absolutely losing his mind over the whistling going on during the pitches. The whistle was almost to the level of a ref's whistle, but not quite. I do believe the whistling was affecting the NW pitchers.

But the umps ignored the outrage from the NW fans. And "superfan" even went to the stadium folks to complain and ask why the offending fan couldn't be removed.

And then Mia hit that HR and when she came into home base, she had a big beaming smile and let out that exact whistle!

I was then reminded that yes, early in the season there was a whistler that really drove the opposing team crazy but nothing was done about it because it's perfectly legal. Not a man-made item causing that noise. Just not a good look from a sportsman's perspective. But then if you turn that to chants during a pitch, what's the difference?

Anyway, with a healthy lead Mike must have asked her to tone it down the rest of the game.

She knows a little bit about the sport, for sure.
As opposed to Lobe who can't get our players correct, can't get the count correct, doesn't know the difference between a foul and fare ball, doesn't understand why you **** for a left and can't even see it's a foul, not strike 3. Please SEC Network, don't hire this idiot.

It rarely happens, but what happens IF one of the top 8 doesn't win their regional. Would the team that would have gone to that top 8 super regional suddenly become the super regional host?

The bracket at this time:

IF Mizzou loses and Duke wins, then Duke hosts the Super? Like I said, it's pretty rare so I don't recall the last time this happened. Because the #9 seed is LSU. And don't you think LSU would be demanding to be the Super Regional host over #10 Duke?

One is an analyst the other is play by by play. Softball is not his strongest suit. He does lights out with volleyball and basketball.

So looks like the aggys are coming. Any chance they comport themselves better than last year?!?!
Naaa, I doubt it...aggys will aggy.

Nevermind. Saw the end of the game and they said that if Omaha were to win, they'd be going to Duke. But then, Omaha lost.

This made me think of something from my days in grad school.

I went to UT for undergrad and when it came to grad school I had two bad choices: Oklahoma State or Texas A&M. Being a UT grad, the first thing that always pops out of my head is "Oklahoma sucks!" I couldn't see myself toiling away in grad school for 2 years in the state of Oklahoma. And College Station was 90 minutes from Houston, my home base.

So, one of the interesting things about A&M, besides being a souped up version of high school, was that they would never, ever, ever acknowledge UT. You know how Ohio State never says "Michigan"? They say "That school up North"

At their ONLY main library, they had a sign that said, "M-W-F" bus service to Austin for library services at 8:00. Returning at 4:00.

What this meant was they didn't have enough resource materials (this was before the internet) in the single, giant library on the A&M campus. By law, A&M students are allowed to check out books from any UT library. So, this was a bus headed to the UT campus so students could go get that book they didn't have in their own library. But, they would NEVER EVER EVER say that it was to borrow a book from the UT library system.

So, A&M going to Regionals! Hosted by "some team" in Austin.
