Texas-Miss St Game Thread

I have lots of complaints about yesterday, but in the end they won easily. That kind of play won’t win a championship though. I’ll chalk it up to an off day and hope that it gets fixed during the off week.

No freaking kidding.

After no holding ever getting called in the Big XII, I expected to see more holding called so I can't say I was surprised but I thought it would go both ways and that it would involve play-changing holding not holding that has no effect at all on the outcome of the play but kills several big plays.
We are NOT going to get fair treatment from the officials in any sec game this year. Consider it an initiation.

I just posted in another thread, no way do we win that game last year. It would have been an "L." No team is going to play its best every single week. I think this game happened at the perfect time. Our guys should be laser focused and prepared going into Dallas.

I just watched Sark lead the texas players to Texas Fight in the Locker room. All the players sang and had horns up. I was concerned when they hired Sark and had my doubts. When I see how he has changed the culture of this team and made them proud of this school,It warms my heart. What a change from the Binder boy years. A 180 degree turn. I was not happy with some of his calls yesterday but it can be overlooked for his class act for this program. Hook em Sark

This is from the Statesman. He did score on the first QB sneak, but ….

On a failed quarterback sneak in the third quarter, Sarkisian believed Manning had scored, but he got up off the ground before the officials arrived on the scene to determine whether or not he was in the end zone.
"By the time they got there, they couldn't tell whether he was in the scrum or not where he was on the field," Sarkisian said. "So I tried to explain it to him on the headset, the beauty of the headset. He almost did the same thing again, and oddly enough when the play was done, the official came to me and said 'Hey, remind Arch to stay on the ground so we can see where he's at.' So there's little things like that."

I had wondered about that because, to me, it seemed obvious that he had crossed the goal line on the first sneak.

Lesson learned.

So review the play. They review everything else. The overhead shot showed he was in by at least a yard.

The problem with the "above" camera is that it doesn't show ball position. Anyone without a lobotomy can tell that the ball is clearly over the line when it's carried on that part of a human being, but since the camera never sees the ball, they have nothing to review from that angle.

Thoughts after rewatching the game:

-- Something that MSU doesn't seem to get enough credit for is adjusting their entire scheme to a possession-based one for the best chance to upset us. Pundits say "oh look how they were dominated by Toledo" and it's basically a completely different team than what we faced on Saturday. This type of strategy is similar to what Kentucky does to superior opponents (albeit with a far better defensive-minded coach and talent).

-- Their first possession was incredible other than the failed 4th down conversion. Took up nearly half the quarter. They did a good job of seeing what didn't work on 1st down and fixing it for 2nd/3rd down.

-- The missed pass to Juan Davis on the seam route could have been a much-earlier nail in the coffin.

-- Should've taken the points on the FG with the penalty.

-- I wouldn't mind incorporating more zone running with the QB (Manning or Ewers) when they keep collapsing on the RB.

-- I don't think we'll have the luxury of those bail out hot routes to Moore against better teams. We need to figure out something a little closer to the line of scrimmage involving Wingo (reminds me of Adonai Mitchell) or the TEs.

-- DL and LB completely fell apart on the Van Buren 4th quarter scramble TD. That's some good film to learn from. Guys like Hawkins and Reed make Van Buren look pedestrian.

-- Bama will probably have a similar game during their SEC slate against someone other than MSU, but I doubt they'll drop to #2.
