Texas-Baylor Game Thread

Get those young pups on the offensive line a complete off season with time to get stronger. Ewers will look much better running the show next season.
yuck, don't remind me.

he needs to learn from his many mistakes. watching game film. coaches calling him out.
someone said it best by saying he has been "ENTITLED". Hope he gets his head out of his a**. Sark did him wrong by keep playing him cause he needs that entitled thing shaken out of him.

Yep OL had some bad moments in pass blocking but they dug deep and made the Baylor defense submit in the run game.
What's interesting is that the OL was outstanding at the beginning of the year in pass blocking and giving QE plenty of time to get comfortable in the pocket and making the passes that he did. The latter part of the season had them doing better in the run scheme and allowing our backs to control the game. Maybe next year they put it all together and we will be pretty hard to stop on offense.

A win is a win and you are your Record.
8-4 is improved but probably below our standards. I feel like Ewers/Sark keeping him in, cost us 3 easy winnable losses. This Team easily could have been 11-1.
In other words, having #5 and #2, we should have capitalized and done more.
Those dudes are Mega stars and don’t come around often.

A win's a win. You know how hard that is... :whiteflag:And it was vital to keep the momentum going in front of the recruits.

We can't get out of our own way thought. Pre-snap penalties. Ewers' horrible grounding for a safety pass. Ewers missing a gimme over the middle for a potential TD. Fumble after a nice catch and run by Whittington. Ewer's fumble recovered and run in for the TD by Baylor. The play call on 3rd and 2 when it was obvious our running game had kicked into Earl Campbell mode.

Yet we pull away and they tapped out. If this program can just tighten up on the mistakes it would be on it's way.

As for Ewers in particular, he clearly has a long way to go. Something's missing. We're not seeing growth from one game to the next. I don't like to slam anyone but you know how it gets in the heat of the game. We just want to win. Bad. It's been too long.

But an 8-4 record given the youth at QB and the O-line is not bad at all. I didn't think we had much of a pass rush when the season began. I worried about the O-line. We lost a transfer receiver before the first game. It was really hard to figure where we'd end up.

I'm gruntled.

Don’t won’t to get into a Ewers debate but he was better today than lately. Maybe he’ll get it all together.
He was 12/16 with some good down field throws. Issue was the sacks. If the OLIne would quit blocking air he'd of had a good game. It's 50/50 on him and the OLiine. Even the safety was a complete whiff by the LG

Yea, I'm satisfied. 2 weeks ago I hit the first game I'd been to in a decade so it was really a bummer to finally get to DKR and the team never showed up at all on O. But these last 2 weeks to just impose your will against someone and ram it down their throats sure felt good. Especially against Aranda who is a damn good D coach.

And it goes without saying that I am enjoying the contrast between the Longhorns and Blow U and Aggy. I hope LSU crushes the spirit out of them. Having those two programs struggle will only be good for us on the recruiting trail.

my ranting about Ewers is more about SARK than the kid. I want SARK TO BE SMART ENOUGH TO PULL HIM and let the better QB CARD play. True, Ewers was better today. I don't even blame him for the fumble return for the td. the d linemen made that play. he was trying to throw the pass away.

Ewers is just doing the best he can in an environment that is over his head.
so I am pissed off at Sark for allowing a kid that is in over his head that has cost us games this year. We have a more experienced qb who could himself play better and get better. Ehlinger was terrible in his early years also. But because of SARK we could have been in the championship game.

And let's agree on no "We're back" talk. No reason for that. We have some work to do. We had a nice transition year but we need at least this much and more next year and then off to the races after that.

Very glad we won a game that we tried desperately to give away. As for Ewers, he's young. But I'm not seeing any growth. His footwork is horrible. There's no reason he shouldn't be playing better at this point of the season.

Most of our penalties were false starts. I don't remember a single hold or PI on either team. No late hits, targeting.... Pretty clean game except for the false starts.
now that we are talking about false starts. I hate the call when an offensive lineman just flinched a little and it's a penalty. it's not fair that they have to be perfect statues. I say if the dlineman jumps offsides because of a flinch then throw the flag. and no the dlineman don't always cross the LOS. You say they will. fine. make them take a chance on drawing the penalty on themselves.
I say this no matter what teams are playing.
just my two cents.

QE is young but talented. Give the kid room to grow. It took VY a couple years to turn into a total Superman. In the 1st half the OL didn’t help QE much on passing downs. We have most of the pieces in place but need to work on focus and consistency. We are better than last year but still have work to do. QE is taking a few lumps, hopefully he learns and grows, I think he will.

at the beginning of the season I said:
8-4 good season
9-3 really good
10-2 great season

so I should be happy,
but Sark so disgruntles me that I can only crack a little smile.
