Texas-Baylor Game Thread

You might even say they're quite the quitters.

I honestly don't think they quit; I think they attempted to execute what the coaches called. They just couldn't do it because they're not capable. The unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were out of frustration. Moreso at ourselves than at Baylor.

I agree with the decision to take a timeout to score. Anything positve, anything.
That TD wasn’t a positive. It only underscores how far we have fallen. It was Baylor for God’s sake.

Sorry, I didn’t grow up in the “everyone gets a trophy era”. Just take the whipping like a man and try to learn from it. Calling timeout to score a meaningless TD is sandlot. If ou did that against us, can you imagine the comments that would appear on this board?

"I've done a poor job. The buck stops with me" TH just now.
I sure hope he doesn’t talk to the team like he does in the pressers. Seriously, he quoted the definition of “strain” and then expounded on a couple of words in the definition. I’m willing to bet Saban, Swinney, and the like don’t wax philosophical with their troops. Either you have it or you don’t. I think the answer is starting to reveal itself with one TH.

Zuck, what would it take to concede that Herman is probably — and sadly — not the guy? In the last two weeks, in games critical to maintaining any program momentum— we laid two massive eggs. I’m a Longhorn for life but I cannot see any silver linings right now.

Unless Herman makes radical staff changes starting next Saturday and pulls off a recruiting miracle, I think it’s reasonable to say that the program is in real trouble. We are no longer going in a positive direction.[/QUOTE
Someone on the radio said that the Georgia win was a blessing and a curse. Unreasonable expectations ensued. I really believe we have to wait for the 2018 class to be seniors before we can get fully two deep loaded. I’m never pleased because on one hand I feel like texas is cursed with two and three star talent but am disgusted when they play like they’re ranked. I think Collin Johnson is the biggest sissy 6’4” WR in college football, but when he’s out there’s one more starter out. The whole team is in disarray and I can’t disregard that. 18-23 year olds are fragile and it looks like this season has broken their spirit n fight. Ljh left to be undrafted. Just another starter gone. We’re too weak two deep for that. I don’t think coordinators need to be fired. Theoretically next years team will be fully Herman’s guys. Texas looks like mediocrity again n I won’t be in anyone’s way..... hopelessly optimistic about a win against TT but don’t c how this team can rebound....

The reality is that Herman isn’t the coach we all hoped he would be. Plain & simple.

If I am reading CDC accurately, changes are coming, fast and significant. If this was Year 4 I believe Herman would be out. But it isn’t, so all we can do is to wait and see what happens after Tech.

Cue the Dennis Green rant...

One has to wonder... our best game of the year is our close loss to LSU...

What happens the rest of the season had we win that game?

I honestly think the wheels still fly off. However close that game was, this was still a very flawed team and coaching staff.

We might only be 7-4 on the season and the story would be about how badly the mighty have fallen instead of about how just play n bad we have been all season

Why did I watch that?
I had this feeling pre game that the Horns would be fired up and kick some Baylor ***.
This is just sad.
It's all on coaching.
No real game plan.
No adjustments.
No fire in the belly.

I don’t get this? If there is time on the clock you keep playing your *** off PERIOD.

Sounds like we’ve come full circle. TH’s first year was 6-6, and a bowl win, then 10-4 with a big bowl win, now back to 6-6 maybe 7-5.

Herman looks nothing like those guys, and our players look nothing like their's either. I watched OSU-PSU today. Even when those guys are standing in the huddle, they all look NFL ready. Our guys, save for a couple (Roach and Jones), look like small Texas college guys. Quick, but not strong or effective.

I say that this is one of the top 20 worst losses in the history of UT football. This is a loss that will lead to a potential coaching change, or at least a lot of people asking for a coaching change. It changes people’s faith in the program. It’s a game where we almost didn’t score a touchdown, and had one of our worst losses to Baylor. It is a game that defines a season, and defines a coach, and maybe even defines a 3-year starting quarterback. This is on par with the 66-3 loss to UCLA in 1997 that ended Mackovic’s UT career, the 46-3 loss to Miami in 1991 that ended David McWilliams UT career, and the 63-21 loss to Oklahoma in 2012 that was the beginning of the end for Mack Brown, and the 31-9 loss to TCU in 2016 that was the end for Charlie Strong. In short, I believe we all witnessed history today.

Yeah we've whiffed on so many big name recruits at this point, it's almost a joke to see our best commits rated #40 or #117 on the pundit sites.

If it's any consolation, we have lost all these games against what we may call, "lesser recruits." They've beat us and beat us soundly, every game. You tell me: is it talent on the field, or coaching issues? Talent without direction is talent wasted. Coaching without direction is a season wasted.

Agreed. You play your tail off. Meaning, you line up and run a play. If you score, then great. If you don’t score, and the clock runs out, you shake hands and move on.

What you don’t do is call a timeout with the sole goal of scoring a meaningless touchdown when you’re down three scores. That’s not playing your tail off. That’s scheming to make the bottom line look less awful. There’s a big difference.

Said another way, you don’t call timeout to score a last second touchdown if you’re up by three scores. Why would you do it when you’re down three scores!? Either way, it’s a really bad look.

How could you leave out losing to Kansas that got Strong fired?

I do not agree with this statement. There is NO WAY this game should even be mentioned in the same paragraph as 46-3 vs. Miami. That was the worst ***-kicking ever IMO. There have been worse scores, but no worse losses.

I think some of y'all need to back away from the crack pipe. I know we are all frustrated and wondering how much worse it can get, but come on, we lost by 14. TH's worst loss ever at UT is 17 points in his first year. I am not saying all is well, however, in Mack Brown's 3rd year at Texas, he took the first of many ***-kickings at the hands of OU that were, every one of them, worse than this.

I would like to know why, in addition to our offensive coaches, we also have several analysts like Larry Fedora. With all that coaching, this is the best they can do? Especially when coaching for their jobs?

Herman said last week he says X % of the time when the opponent lines up in X formation, they will do X. That’s what Fedora does.

Sir, if you haven't noticed, we just got our asses kicked. Again. Like last time, and the time before that. We can lose by one point, or forty points. Longhorns season is over. This sucks.
