Texas at OSU 01/27/21

Disappointing. Just hard to feel like there’s not improvement week to week. Maybe it’s not digressing (just because maybe it was the quality of opponent) but it seems like we aren’t heading in the right direction.

Charli frustrated and she’s playing like it.

Collier has got to finish in the paint!! She has had about 6 open layups in this game but cannot seem to finish. Texas has also got to get Ebo the ball on the block! Nobody in that paint has the build she has so all it takes is one drop step and she will bulldoze them out the way for the layup.

This is embarrassing and at this point I'm not even frustrated or mad. At this point in the season it is what it is. Still love this team and think they still have what it takes but really don't have any expectations at this point. Our zone offense is just terrible. It has been all year and I have seen little to no improvement and our defense is getting worse.

Almost can’t watch.

Just painful.

Bigs can’t make chippies. Guards aren’t effective at penetrating (save for a blue moon play from Joanne or Celeste). Chevalier and Lambert may be fine, but you see them get the ball and it just feels like nothing is going to happen. They have no credible offensive threat so it lets them slack and focus on the passing targets.

I can already tell, until we get to the elite talent level that Vic & co are accustomed to, it’s gonna be a ride full of ups and downs because it’s clear that he’s VERY stuck in his ways. Not that I can blame him seeing as it for him to 2 Nat’l title games.

I just wish we were a little more diverse. We should not be pressing this team, because they’re faster than we are. I’ve lost count of how many layups we’ve given up :whiteflag:

It is obvious that OSU is simply a better team. More athletic, quicker, longer. Our lack of size is evident once Mack dominates Collier.

I’m sorry. We also have to STOP acting like our defense is good. It just isn’t.
This! I said it before, we are not good enough to be playing man to man against teams like this. I guess we'll just check out and wait for the recruits and take these complete *** whippings.

A few nights ago vs. ISU I thought we had taken a giant step forward. Only to come crashing back to earth. You never see Baylor lay an egg like this. Lose - sure. Get blown out and embarrassed? Never. We have a long, long way to go.

I wouldn't even give an interview if I were Vic. Let the "kids" explain how they left 38 points at the rim.

Here's your ball game...
29% FG
26% 3FG
Reboot and try to get some revenge on Tech Saturday evening.
:hookem2:

I am not giving up on this team. They will struggle against teams that have guards that are not affected by the full court press. And have a dominating post. I think they will play better in Austin against OSU. I am not depressed. It's just reality. Get better and learn. Lots of folks have rightfully said that the team will need an inflow of some difference makers. There are two and perhaps three of those coming in next year. But can't give up on this current team. Write this game off. There will be others. They are all good kids who are trying hard. The sun comes up tomorrow.

The reason this is disappointing is because we (I) hyped this team up before the season. I don’t think anyone expected a Big 12 championship or even a regional berth. But I think I expected to be a consensus top 25 team and at least second in the Big 12. So it’s hard when expectations don’t meet. When draft analysts said Charli was #1 draft pick, you just assume she doesn’t have games like this. You expect the team to have an offensive identity (or at least be able to match the offensive ability of teams that others (me) consider to be less talented). At this point, I’m not sure Karen would’ve done any worse.

All that to say I’m not throwing in the towel either. But yeah, these losses are disappointing.

Agreed, I think everyone just needs to go with the flow in a season like this. Before, I would have been frustrated by play like this but it's unprecedented times and whatever happens will happen. Texas has a great recruiting class & two skilled Juco players coming in next season. Also expect Vic to bring in some good transfers or graduate transfers next season so save all the frustration for next season.

Better have patience to be a fan of this team. Truth be told people, the rebuild probably doesn’t start until next year. I’m guessing Charlie will go pro, Celeste will leave and Audrey will retire. It’s gonna get worse before it gets better.

None of those things will happen. Especially the Celeste Taylor part which I don't even know where that even came from. Collier I don't think will go pro because as you can tell when she plays players of her caliber she struggles a bit. That will be every game in the wnba so I expect Collier to return another year and get great coaching from Vic and coach Harris. As far as Warren, she won't retire because she is in concussion protocol. She doesn't actually have a concussion. I would understand if she has had multiple concussions but that's not the case. All three of those players will be on the roster next season but some freshman will not be. Texas will bring at least two players in on top of the 5 who will be new

If you’d have told me 7 turnovers on the road with a loss I wouldn’t have believed it, but 61 missed shots really cuts into chances for a turnover I guess. They only had 14 turnovers on a night we needed our average or more of forced TO’s.

Regroup and beat Tech. There’s only one team in conference that *should* sweep us

That is why I used the word “guessing” it will happen. Let me ask you the following questions and take your homer glasses off for a minute? If your Charlie do you pass up being the 1 pick in the WNBA and move to New York, especially if you want to be in journalism. Did you see Celeste play in the 4th quarter and have you seen her body language for most of the year? If you can’t see she’s having a hard adjusting to Vic and his system, your not watching closely. Lastly, why do you think Audrey is missing games? Use some common sense man. Like I said, I don’t know if any of these things will happen, but just be prepared. I don’t speak out of ignorance.

A different perspective to think about. The pandemic has affected everyone but the difference with a team like Texas is the majority of these players never played with each other it’s extremely difficult to learn a teammates tendencies when you don’t have court time. It’s difficult for a coach to run a lot of what they want to when you haven’t had the proper court time. The teams that are beating them have chemistry they have played with each other the coaching staffs has all their offense implemented etc. To add to this it’s a young team, yes you have two players who played over 20 minutes a game but they were role players so again the lack of court time with their teammates coaches as well as each other in their new roles will create inconsistency which is what I am seeing. Elite players are needed? They have elite players now Joann was recruited by this staff. Charli and Celeste have represented this country I expect to see them both get drafted one day. Kyra played at Duke. I can go up and down roster and point out resumes that are equal to anyone coming in to this program. As frustrating as it may be it takes time to build consistency and a good team regardless of who’s on the court

Charlie has been talking about moving on to the WNBA since this summer if you listed to any of the podcast she had been on. So she is gone after this year. Although tonight shows against elite talent she struggles. With all the new recruits coming in I dont see us getting any better next year. Another year of the excuse of us being a young team.
