Entire batting lineup in the 9th:clap::clap::clap::clap:
Zane Morehouse:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
Ace W:clap::clap::clap::clap:
Gordon:clap::clap::clap:

We got it done when it counted!

And the pitching, while not outstanding (other than Zane), did good enough to keep us in it until the end.

Way to go Horns!!!!

Stanford pitches their ace tomorrow, but we pitch LBJ. They will have a hard time coming back from this game 1 loss. We're in the driver's seat.

:stanford:Their outfield coaching SUCKS!

You see Stanford, there's this thing called communication, say it: "communication."

(and it wasn't just one play)

The problem with their outfield is that Park is a ball hog. I know the CF is the boss but he was waaay out of position on those plays.

Is this the guy that threw 200 pitches last week?

That's him all right. (I think it was 180 or so pitches in 3 days, but still). It appears that Stanford's coach has no qualms whatsoever about potentially blowing out a young man's arm to get one more victory under his belt. It's really f@#%ed up. California high school pitchers take note.

Not going to last past 5 innings. Also, Texas and Stanford are the only teams left from 2022 CWS.

Saw the final score. Didn't get to watch the game (busy working in the garage, painting shelves to go in my office closet - moving is a pain in the neck!). Nice to see the Horns come back and take advantage of Stanford miscues (fielding and pitching). Would be nice to close it out tomorrow.

In baseball, we can truly say "We're Texas". We step up, and to be honest, I think we have seen occasions where perhaps the best explanation for the performances our opponents have turned in against us... is also "We're Texas". Occasionally, they clinch up because of that name on our jerseys.
I might consider last night's 9th inning to be an example demonstrating my point.

I quit watching in the 8th and just figured based on the day that it wasnt our day. Sometimes its better to be lucky. Funny how they avoided Campbell for the most part. Its hard to tell for sure watching on TV but that ump sure had an odd strike zone. With Gordon being a lefty and pitching to the right side of the plate, it was hard to understand how a lot of those pitches didnt cross the plate. Glad the good guys won. Lets get another one!!!

The second win is always the hardest. LBJ is going to need his best performance and the bats must come alive.

This mentality cracks me up. And I get it. It’s calmed enthusiasm.

But if the bats come alive and LBJ has his best outing we’re winning 10-0.

And just to take the counter, the second win is not always the hardest. Take last years ECU Super for example.

That said, this one likely won’t be easy. I hope the bats come alive and LBJ has a great performance.

I am going to be very interested in seeing Stanford's body language early. Last night was a gut punch, a throat punch, and a kick in the nuts. (To be fair, we can argue, like aggy, they managed to kick themselves in the nuts.)

How will they respond?

Same. I stopped watching after the top of the 8th and decided to go for a run since the sun was going down and when I got back to my car we had won. What a nice surprise.

It seemed a bit inconsistent, but generally pretty narrow.

I bet their outfielders don't like each other now.

Stanford has got to be one of the worst-coached teams we've ever seen. If it's not the lack-of-discipline/communication/understanding of territory in the outfield, then it's having a young man throw around 180 pitches in 3 days. :confused::confused::confused: Also, when your pitcher in the 9th inning keeps throwing ball after ball and walking batters, you might go ahead and pull him now before the damage gets worse.

Just finished watching it, i listened to the end of the game on my way back from Austin yesterday and heard another great comeback. I was going to post this before this weekend but I can't tell you how many times I've listened to Craig Way calling a game from Palo Alto when I thought all hope was lost and some how we would break their hearts......... and we did it again. :hookem:

As I'm watching the game this morning, we are down 5-2, i see a quality Stanford fan giving the middle finger to the Texas side of the stadium. I guess he had a premonition that we were indeed number 1 cause he gave us two middle fingers. Good signs indeed, i'm guessing that means we should be in luck for game two also since he was kind enough to give us two. :headbang:

I've said it before, i'll say it again, there is something magical about Texas Baseball when it's playoff time......

I could go on and on and on about how this team has overcome adversity

I've been speaking about this team all season how great the potential IF it's all put together, lots and lots of work to do though and I said it in the beginning of the season, it was going to take a large part of the season to get this team put together in my estimation, to be patient, i was definitely worried a couple of times myself (Stehle underperforming still and losing Shaw, Tole and Burke, our top relievers in an already shallow bull pen and then to lose Carlson).

How in the world do we survive after losing all those guys????? Those are crucial guys!! Yet, 1-6 in the lineup continues to do their thing while Flores, O'Dowd and Daly elevate the offense at a time they are needed to a level that can't be beat. Morehouse comes in and closes the door.

This team can go all the way too.......fun to watch who the next hero will be. Can't believe some of you bailed on the team late in the game like that.....Texas Baseball is different folks, hang in there.

Who will be tonights hero?

Quinn Matthews

LHP
3.65 ERA
1.23 WHIP
136 Strikeouts
38 Walks

Opponents bat 0.234 against him
Grossly overused by his Coach

"Quinn Mathews brings a four-pitch mix that plays up with funk and deception and his fastball typically sits at 91 mph against hitters."

His changeup is his best secondary pitch, and he uses the changeup to get a lot of ground ball outs. Tight slider, and a slowish curve with a 3/4 shape. Pretty good control usually.

Projected as a mid-to-high round draft pick (not 1st or 2nd round material), unless Stanford's coaches have him throw his arm out. Quinn threw around 180 pitches in 3 days last weekend. :confused::confused::confused:

Bottom line: A good quality pitcher. Not as good as Gordon or LBJ, but not far behind them.

Craig Way :trophy:
I was in the pool and listened to the first few innings. Perhaps it was the large tumbler of adult beverage but I really paid attention to the way Craig and Roger call a game last night even though I have listened for years
It is simply the best.
Craig can seamlessly give you stats for instance on our batter, give you stats on the pitcher, the type of ball pitched to him, the count and even mention how our batter did in Miami, then will give the next ball pitch without missing a beat go on to other pertinent stats and info. Keeps you engaged.
He also repeats the inning and ball count so you are never wondering. This is Important since it is hard to keep up just listening.
I do not know who complies all the stats and how Craig can instantly go to a pertinent stat.
Not to take anything away from the great job Roger does. He segues into action on the field incredibly well.
It is also nice that they are willing to give the opponent their due.

I don't think i will ever take Craig for granted again.
