Stanford Super Stupid Regional

Why did Texas have a DH who wasn't even close to the Mendoza Line? Were no other options available?

My opinions:

- Flores will be a big-time star by the time he's done here. It was good that he got some good development time this year, but I agree he may not have been the right guy to DH in the playoffs.

- My favorite for DH has long been Galvan. While his batting avg isn't too good (but it's a lot better than Flores' batting avg.), Galvan hits with big-time power, and has a much better OPS.

- Now this was after Carlson went down. If Carlson was healthy, he should be in the batting lineup every game. I thought Carlson was underutilized for most of the year. I hear it may have something to do with a spat with the Coaches after he argued with an ump...?

- Speaking of development, it would've been nice to see more of Belyeu.

Expectations at UT is Omaha. They didn't exceed expectations. You don't get a pass, especially in NIL era when you can't build a roster. We are going to get destroyed in SEC.

Okay. Maybe I should have spoken for myself, but I think it was the national perception also. We lost what, eight players to the major league draft. We lost the first several games.

Those were losses to top national teams and was not unexpected with the team coming in with so many new players. I thought we could build from there, but our pitching staff was thin and erratic. We blew some games late that I thought were in the bag. We lost conference series that we needed to win. We went 0-2 in the conference tournament. We swept West Virginia at the end of conference play, but that was the beginning of a long skid for them. But we played great in Coral Gables, and I was confident for our series with Stanford, and the last game, I expected a dog fight, but I thought we had a good chance. I wish results had been different, and some aspects like starting every inning with Stanford runners on, but I am not disappointed by the game we played.

As for the other, if our expectations are "Omaha," I don't know why we should lower them to getting "destroyed" when we join the SEC.

I think Pierce and Woody made a concerted effort the last half of the season to develop Minchey, and to a lesser extent Grubbs. He's building them up to be major contributors (probably as middle relievers) next year. Either might start mid-week games next year. Minchey might start Sundays...? Coach also perhaps gave Stuart way too many opportunities this year... Stuart has really good velocity, but he can't seem to get it together in real live games.

Now, Sthele has really good velocity, and good breaking stuff to go with it. He seems to have been under some sort of baseball "curse" this year (no I don't believe it's an actual curse). He'll look outstanding, then give up a really big inning or two right afterwards. And this didn't happen just once or twice. Whether or not our incoming and portal guys (assuming we'll have a fair number of portal guys) pan out, Sthele might find himself starting again. Not sure if Travis Sthele sticks around though--the MLB scouts will like his 95-96+ mph fastball plus his breaking stuff. Maybe he wants to complete his degree and sticks around...?
Micheys ERA was almost 4 runs lower than the Stanford guy but only in 12 innings compared to 40. Grubbs 8 IPs. Stuart was 15 IPs at a 7 ERA.

Stuart’s got a live arm. Minchey is pretty good too. Pierce simply has to get better at developing depth. It may require an early season lump or two.

I’m probably one of Sthele biggest supporters. I’d say we need him back.

Horns had a great year. Good baseball team and everybody contributed.
My take on why the ball was lost - the pitch was up in the zone. The ball was not visible from the time bat made contact. Typically the pop up is generated from a swing with up trajectory. Not flat swing. Unusual when several positions can’t track it.

Woody and Pierce will win this tournament more than once over next several years.

You don't get a pass, especially in NIL era when you can't build a roster.

NIL: Texas One Fund link

You need to visit the Texas One Fund above and donate specifically to Texas baseball. Out of all the sports at Texas the baseball team is ranked 10th behind softball, volleyball, track, etc. I figured if you're this passionate about this I thought you would want to help.

No need to start Witt. That was a big,big mistake that’s going to haunt everyone for a while. But Pierce has done a great job overall. He turned this team around. Also his players get much better under his watch.

The Witt as starter experiment should be over. His ERA is huge
Pitch Hurley/Morehouse/Whitehead/(Witt for an inning or with a pitbull leash)
You called it yesterday before the game, Creek. Hard to crawl out of those early-inning holes. Still proud of this team, just a devastating way to lose. We probably have the best outfield in college baseball, just a freak play...

Can't be angry if the whole team seemed to lose the ball in the air. Can be angry that we never lead in the series for a full inning. Always playing catch up bites you.

The way some of you guys drop in here after a loss looking for someone to blame is really childish. DC throwing the game is crazy talk.
If someone really said DC threw the game, thats just insane. He is probably the best right fielder in America this year. I also think Texas over achieved this year as this was not the same teams we have had. Hats off to the team for persevering. We are still TEXAS and that matters most!!!

Didn't see that play but considering its Stanford and they don't have premier facilities, that's disappointing. Its easy to see Texas has some exceptional facilities to play in and a few others did as well. Was also surprised Stanford had a lot of open seats.

Craig Way mentioned that the stadium's light standards (meaning the poles) are really low, which made the ball particularly hard to find at twilight. Again, a devastating way to lose. I feel badly for these guys.

Heckuva game. Really fun season to watch. Enjoyed the Regionals/Super Regionals and how this team continued to elevate and rise to the occasion time and again. Not perfect, but that’s life and sports. Multiple players really developed under Pierce and Woody.

As a fan I’d love to win ‘em all, all the time. But that’s not realistic, so I’m just grateful that we had a great season, had fun watching these young men develop as individuals and as a team, and we’re competitive down to the last play.

Dylan needs his bank account investigated. WTF. Don't give me this BS he didn't see it, he tracked right to it and gave up. He called off CF as well cause he was tracking it and let up. This is worse than Buckner. I'm so pissed.
Absurd take.

My only question is why was Guillemette hitting 4th. He was 0 for the super regional with al least half of those many outs were K's.

He Ked in the 9th inning miracle in game 1 and Ked again last night in the 8th with the go ahead run, Campbell, on 2nd.

I guess the cannon shot from DC in right field that nailed the Stanford runner at third was just a classic Buckner move too, huh? Deep fake conspiracy stuff of intrigue. Genius camouflage when you’re “throwing the game”.

What a silly take on a great player who had a great season, to include several clutch defensive plays in the Stanford series to keep us in these games. It’s baseball…weird shtuff happens.

Only SS seems to be moving towards it

That just appears to be DPs philosophy. Prefers to have the lineup locked down come the end of the season.

And the truth is, you never know who’s seeing the ball well that today with this team.

It should have been obvious that Guillemette had not seen the ball the entire super.

You know watching that replay several times it actually looks as though the ball coming off the bat is more to short center field’ish, even Lucas points as though it’s SS area. Just weird.

We are going to get destroyed in SEC.
We'll fit right into the upper 4-6 teams right off the bat. Some years we'll challenge for the new conference title, some years we'll finish 5th or 6th. But we will not "get destroyed."

Baseball is a game (in many ways) of breaks, luck, and weird plays. For example, the "bad" hop on a routine infield grounder; or two outfielders running into each other like happened to Stanford in game one; or the lost popup in the twilight in game three.
The breaks tend to even out. And in a way, that's what happened last night. The game one break that led to our win was evened out by the huge break of the lost ball in game three.
And the umpire can also weigh in on close game outcome. Our pitcher had some very close calls go against him that could have turned the game had any one of them gone his way.
And although I did not play college baseball, I did play quite a bit of ball. And in poor light, a high pop up can definitely get lost. It even happens in the major leagues occasionally.

If you had watched him catch and hit this year, prior to the Stanford series- you would know that’s the leader of this team. He commands the pitching staff and hits with authority. His receiving is what bothered me in this series. Bothered because he is hurt (maybe vision) from the HBP in Miami. They don’t come any tougher.

Handler needs a handler.
What a ridiculous insulting statement to make about a young man on our team that he intentionally gave up. So incredibly absurd and embarrassing to ridicule someone like DC. An incredible player and young man that carried himself very well all year. Maybe the best player on the team. Let’s see, he throws out someone at 3rd late in the game and then drives in the trying run in the 8th inning yet he is the bill Buckner of Texas baseball. Are you serious Clark? 3 players on that side of the field didn’t pick the ball up. Must have been a conspiracy. Aggies had same problem twice in their games. 3rd baseman had a pop up in infield drop right over his head.

Great year mr. Campbell and really enjoyed your 38 game hitting streak.

GG performed well all season and only had one dip early in the season if I remember right. Absolutely no reason to make a quick move down the lineup like that for a player that’s performed all season, he was just in a mini slump at the wrong time.

That was a very tough way to end the game and season. My main peeve is the Stanford player who hit the pop fly running around banging his chest repeatedly like he came through in the clutch. He didn't. He's young and was elated to win so I'll cut him some slack. But it was bush league.
