JoeD….now that you’ve challenged me to a memory contest….I’ll give you the win regarding OSU vs Texas WBB back in 1986. No memory of that. However, in football there were LOTS of hard feelings between the programs when Woody Hayes had those great football teams. Can’t remember playing em but lots of lobbying for football polls in the 60s. In basketball, do you remember Texas playing Ohio State in NCAA men’s basketball….I believe it was 1961 or 62? Jerry Lucas was their horse and I believe we had John Mark Fultz or similar. They beat us and I’m still mad about that. So I’m glad the WBB can start a new rivalry Friday night. TEXAS FIGHT!

Good stuff from the coach. He didn’t want to reveal much early in the presser. However, later he did. I don’t think anything he said will surprise Schaefer. But it did validate our earlier thoughts about his they like to play. Five out. The big starts out at the arc and will dive through screens towards the basket at times. But they’ll start out with the big (overseas player that I can’t spell). She’s 6’-4” but had made 70+ threes this year. So I don’t think Ebo can chase her to the line. So Moore may get the chance to be our big due to her mobility. Perhaps Lattimore, but if we do that their big will post her up. It’ll be can our 4-1 beat their 5-0. I sure would hate to give Ebo up but we can’t let their big hit several threes. They are REAL concerned about the rebounding cause of 5 out offense. They will press but don’t do it all the time. They know we’ll try to to take their two scorers away so others will need to step up.

Toss the ball up and let's see what happens. As @WCBBNUT so accurately put it... our "A" game wins, our "B" game could go either way. I feel like we really need to play as we did against Iowa State in Austin.

Let's Go! :hookem2:

Or Utah.

I am a lot less worried today, simply because we have been on one hell of a roll, and I haven't seen or heard anything to make me believe the momentum is slowing.

They don’t seem worried about our pressure outwardly. We’ll see.

I came away with the same impression. I know OSU had a whirlwind of flights from Baton Rouge, Columbus to Spokane so the players may not have had time to watch film on Texas. While I don’t expect other teams to simply concede to Texas, I got the impression their players are talking tough and may be dismissive of our defensive pressure.

On the other hand, OSU’s coach had studied our film and acknowledged our defensive strength and the disruptive challenges it could cause OSU.

I understand that it would be silly to use any take-aways from a press conference to predict the outcome of a game. OSU will certainly be a formidable opponent.

Hopefully, we will be able to sustain our high level of play on both ends of the court and advance to the Elite 8.

Thank you for posting
Before Vic mentioned it I noticed he wasn't getting many questions.
Then the NYT asked a question and Vic mentioned Texas hadn't gotten a lot of press attention which he liked.
" everyone wants to beat Texas"
Love this coach:hookem::coolnana:

I look at OSU and they are a pretty good team, but we are so much more talented at every position. They are a very poor rebounding team and have a tendency to play too fast and struggle with turnovers, hopefully we have a field day with that. Outside of their starting 4 and 5, there is not much depth in the paint, I’m looking for us to play big and physical and get them into some foul trouble early on.

the committee gave us a 2 seed, and them a 6 for a reason. If we can come out as focused as we have been, we should win.

but, March is mad and anything can happen.

Ohio St didn’t play in last year’s NCAA’s because of a self imposed ban after NCAA violations. Anybody remember what that was about?

Illegal/inappropriate recruiting activities by assistant coaches on the wbb, fencing, and golf teams. They retired after the incident became public knowledge and the university self-imposed the punishment to avoid the ncaa looking any further into it.

They're obviously a different team now. I just look at the way they handled LSU on their home floor. A team that from a guard and style of play perspective are very similar to Texas. Like I mentioned early in the tread, I think it's going to be an uphill battle for Texas if Ohio State is making their shots.

They are good, but 20 turnovers against an LSU defense that exerts a lot less pressure than we do bodes well for us. It will be a challenge, but we are up for it.

You beat me completely in the memory contest. I didn't know any of that early men's BB history. I can't remember ever playing them in football in the 60's, or any other time now that I think about it. I didn't know we had played them 9 or whatever it was times in WBB that Moooooo reported.

The OSU coach seems determined to press us at times. We sure don’t have a lot of experience running a press offense. Most teams must have felt we were to quick for it to be effective. Plus our press was wearing them down and unless you have lots of guard depth it’s might near impossible to press and be pressed. Tennessee beat us by using it late. A well respected high school coach in Metroplex said that a lot of teams that press don’t like to be pressed themselves. So he would do that to throw them off. I am really interested if they do it, and if so, how we react. My gut says it’s a mistake on OSU’s part, but we’ll see soon.

You press when you don’t think teams can handle it. I would expect with Rori being a freshman who hasn’t dealt with it a lot that they will try it a decent amount in the beginning. If she does as I suspect and dribble right through it and set teammates up for open jumpers and layups then they’ll get out of it. If we’re turning it over or missing shots I would expect to see it throughout the game.
