We were out rebounded 45 to 28.


Fun fact:

Stanford WBB team collectively stands 102 feet 7 inches.

Texas WBB team collectively stands 82 feet 7 inches.

Inch for inch I am so very proud of this team. Can’t wait for next year.

Well you see it more than I do. I said they were good but not some unbeatable juggernaut. If Texas played to our standard in that game we win by 10+ but we didn’t and lacked in the areas where we didn’t have a chance to win unless we played good in those specific areas such as rebounding and fouling but some of those calls were bs. I just don’t see it like some do for that Stanford team.

I really wish I hadn’t seen that. Her teammates obviously rattled and some in tears. Hate this part of the game. UCONN has had a pretty cursed year and yet here they are in the EE despite all the injuries.

And, a huge reason why we didn't play to our standard was due to how well Stanford defended us.

I didn’t see Stanford do anything special we just didn’t hit our shots. They had some good defensive stops but our entire lineup was affected due to foul trouble. Moore and Matharu sat out most of the game so that’s the reason it looked like Stanford did something. As I said before, Stanford is a good team and well coached but Texas could’ve easily won that game.

What is with the Stanford love in this thread especially after the comments Tara made about our players. Now that’s not the reason I’m saying what I’m saying but Stanford did nothing special whatsoever.

Some of us apparently respect that Stanford is a really good team with a really good coach and indeed had something to do with how Texas played. Let’s start with 11 blocked shots.

It’s not love, it’s deserved respect and if the tables were turned I’d expect the same. That said I do think the refs had an impact on the game somewhat

Seems to me if Vic or Geno compared Stanford’s play to football or rugby, we would have a field day talking about the sexism and racism of those kinds of comments about wbb players. Why does Tara get a pass?

Strongly Agree. Coach Jackson-Durrett was on point.

It’s not that Tara’s comments actually came from a place of personal racism or sexism. It’s that her statement was 1) BS that classlessly minimized the skills and effort of our team and 2) plays into and supports an actually racist/sexist undercurrent present in many fanbases that equates athletic defense by predominantly African American players with clearly racist terms like “thug”

You can acknowledge that Stanford is a really good team and their size and length were the primary reasons that Texas could only score 50 points. And take Tara to task at the same time.

Realizing that I actually took the time to add up the heights of all the players on both teams, I am now left wondering what the heck I am going to do with myself until next season.

Have a great off-season everyone. I don’t tend to visit this site between seasons so I wish you all the best and look forward to exchanging with you all again next fall.

I really, really want Stanford to beat Uconn. If UConn goes down, don't care much about the rest. Will probably also sign off, more or less, for the season.

If Texas hits the free throws, then they win the game...would have been an ugly win that was not to "our standard," but a win nonetheless. Instead, it was like watching the bricklaying convention the Cougars put on in the men's Elite Eight.

At one point, Texas went to the line down three and the stat bar was showing they were something like 11 of 18. Those missed free throws were the difference between being ahead and being behind. You can play an ugly game but fundamentals STILL have to be in the arena...they were not in that game. There is no excuse to miss that many...

Depends on how you look at it. We finished 11-20 from the FT line, and lost by 9 points; so, at best that's a tie. Doubt we've had a game this season where we were a perfect 20-20; so, just not a realistic theory, IMO.

The nine points was puffed up by the easy points given to Stanford in the last 90-120 seconds with the 'foul as quickly as possible' strategy. We were down three when the line was 11 of 18. THAT is inexcusable!

If you hit the free throws that you are expected to make, then you aren't fouling as quickly as possible at the end and instead are trying to extend the time between shots, making your opponent rush to beat the shot clock and regain a lead.

Just as the bunt became a lost art in baseball, free throws have become a lost art in both men's and women's basketball...

Which were the ones you expected them to make? Did you check each player's free throw percentage in the season, in the post-season, etc. ? Even some of the best free throw shooters in the country are capable of missing free throws, especially in pressure moments.

We can pick apart so many what-if's, but none are factual or can be proven as changing the outcome of the game; you change one play/make/miss, then everything that happens after that point in the game changes.

55% is more like early season FT shooting. When we were on a roll we were much closer to 75% on our free throws.

As to whether it was the sole (or even primary) factor in our loss, of course it wasn't. It was a contributing factor though.

Exactly! And we hit the exact same number of free throws in both games with Stanford and it was enough the first time. We also made 6 less FG’s and had 9 less attempts in the loss. Hmm that kinda sounds like Stanford played better defense but several folks around here refuse to believe Stanford had anything to do with the loss.

Game is over. Don’t dwell on what we didn’t do but think of what we did do: b12 tourney champs, swept ISU, beat Baylor, elite eight..future is bright.
