This is a Nile croc named "Gustave":

He is over 20 feet long, weighs over 2,000 pounds, and is responsible for over 200 fatal attacks on humans. Gustave doesn’t always eat his victims, but often kills them and then simply abandons the bodies. Fortunately, he lives south of the Aswan High Dam in southern Egypt. There are a few crocs living north of the dam in the Nile, and is a reason why I advise friends visiting Egypt to swim in the hotel pool (if available) and NOT in the Nile.

Over 200?? That's crazy. The obvious question is why hasn't the thing been exterminated. Certainly with over 200 kills they can find the guy. Any animal attack on humans in the US results in immediate extermination.

I don't think I can desribe it in words.

I would have to imagine that getting attacked and chomped to death by a croc like this would be perhaps the most EXTREME & TERRIFYING way to die by an animal possible. You wouldn't die immediately but would be conscious and experience a HORRBILY PAINFUL death.

Authorities should at least find the crocs north of the dam and eliminate them...

Good points Worster. And you are absolutely correct about the horroble But the Nile crocs are part of Egypt's population control and also keeps the intelligence quotient a bit higher as the lower IQ folks become "croc dinners".

Well, the Nile is a long river, wide, and only a few cities and ancient sites along the route to the south. Crocs in the Nile are very rare since the High Dam was built and finding one croc along the Nile would be difficult, but if they do, then put him on the other side of the high dam on Lake Nasser in the south and let the Nubans worry about it. My wife and I are going to Egypt in another year or so and spend a few months for me to show her around. We are looking forward to that! And we only swim in hotel pools . . .

That is, I can take steps to avoid mixing with 20’ carnivorous reptiles. This lady was mowing her lawn in Silsbee.

Going through a bit of midlife crisis, so thinking of joining a motorcycle gang. Any recommendations? Kinda leaning towards the Mongols but doing my due diligence. Wifey said I can have Spyder Cam for Christmas.

This is a long way from crocs...

Forget the bike LC.

My Rx for a MLC:

Buy or lease a red Shelby Mustang GT 500 KR... new or used. Convertible if you can find one.

You'll have to keep the top up the next 6 weeks in DFW due to the temperatures like the surface of the sun.

By Oct. 1 or TX- ou weekend, you can cruise Southlake or Highland Park and find that perfect unhappy blonde trophy wife that will take all your troubles away! :smokin:

Medieval Castle Stairways

Ever wonder why most staircases in medieval castles were built to be extremely narrow and spiraling in a clockwise direction? Since medieval castles were built mainly as fortifications, staircases were designed to make it extremely difficult for enemy combatants to fight their way up.

Since most soldiers were right-handed, they would need to round each curve of the inner wall before attempting to strike, inevitably exposing themselves in the process. The clockwise spiral staircase also allowed the defenders to use the inner wall as a partial shield and easily allow them to swing their weapon without being hindered by the curvature of the outer wall.

The stairs were also intentionally poorly lit and built to be uneven, making it even more difficult for the attackers to gain any sort of balance or momentum during their fight up to capture the castle.
