Sam Houston St. vs. Texas

Are we all in agreement that LBJ is probably the starter here? At least that's my take since coach took him out of the game so quickly Sunday. And I hope so, I want to see LBJ continue to grow against a decent line up.

Yep.

This Sam team is better than most of the schools in that conference.

They've already beaten the following:

:ksu:
:iowa:
:iu:

No cake walk here.

Oh wow, i haven't looked to see who they've played yet, thats impressive. I wish Pierce would have done more to win that game Sunday though instead of trying to save pitching for Tuesday (i.e. leave LBJ in).

Keys to the game:

LBJ consistency - we need to see the same LBJ we've seen so far, improving efficiency though so that he goes deeper, although I'm unsure how pitching sunday may affect his limits on Tuesday.
*Side note, curious if Whitehead gets more chances in relief. kid came in and pitched strikes when we needed it. I hope so cause he earned another opportunity.

Offense - efficient at bats, fewer looking at called third strike. reducing LOB's. seems like everything in this category needs improvement.

Defense - no errors. I'm not terribly concerned about this yet but give SH St. extra outs and we could be in trouble.

Who is available:

Shaw
Tole
Stuart
Whitehead

We need to start stringing some wins together or we won't be playing in June. need to be putting our best team out there and if and when we are way ahead, give some of these other guys who are struggling some opportunities.

14 game home stand starting tonight, need to go at least 11-3 and 12-2 would be better if this team is going to have any chance come May and June. You cant make the tournament in March but you sure can lose any chance of it. This is a 4-7 team that with a few breaks and a few less brain farts ought to be 7-4 and maybe even 8-3. they are capable but they need to get it going.

3-4 (2022)
5.09 ERA (2022)
28 Strikeouts in 35.1 innings (2022)
from Tucson, AZ and/or Georgetown, TX ?
started at Midland JC

Rough start to this year. Described as more "steady" than spectacular.

Appears to be a good youth in the "right crowd", not shy about proclaiming Jesus on social media. Also seems to be into crypto-currency. His Dad and 2 brothers were (or still are) in the Army Rangers. If there's anything out there on his velocity, movement, pitches thrown, etc.--I couldn't find it.

Here's a little something: Coldiron striking out a Baylor Bear last year--hitting that outside corner with a fastball that has a little arm-side run:

Sam is expected to start Coldiron tonight. He's not chopped liver, but he's a guy that we should be able to hit.

Unofficial word I hear is that it is indeed LBJ getting the start.
Excellent. LBJ is one of my favorite pitchers. I expect he may be a weekend starter by the end of the year.

I'll have to watch this one on tape delay.

Coldiron isn't bad, but he's a pitcher that we should hit (9-10+ hits).

And Flores is batting middle of the order :brickwall:.
at least he’s trying a different player at first and doesn’t have two automatic outs in the lineup.

And instead of duplantier batting in the DH spot, he has him playing ss. I know he’s better than he was last time but he made two errors. We cannot afford to piss away wins. I like duplantier’s fight at the plate but I’m concerned in the field.

Agree with most. I think he’s trying to get some more guys playing time and see what they’ve got. I just hope he does the same with the bullpen. Constantine gets a start. I also like J DuP at the plate. But like you, I think he’s looked like a Freshman in the field thus far though. Gotta fix that. TEXAS makes very few errors in the field (and always has).

Tonights goals:

- Win
- 9+ hits
- give up 3 or fewer runs
- No errors
- No mind-bogglingly stupid mistakes on the base pads

(sad to say, but we may be least likely to achieve the last-listed goal; we just can’t help ourselves on the base pads)

LBJ looking dang sharp on that first batter, setting the tone. He pitched the first guy like he should pitch every batter. See if he can keep it up.

LBJ looking sharp tonight, I know it's early but he looks like a MLB pitcher tonight. 4 at bats, 2 strike outs, 1 hit and 1 FO to end the top of the 1st.

LBJ pitching like a grown man tonight, he started the inning with a first pitch strike, one of my favorite pitches. Batter still ended up with a double but SH leaves him stranded after a slow roller to 1st pushed the runner to 3rd base and short pop up and then a 3 pitch strike out on the final batter.

Thanks aUT for the updates, I cannot view the game until later!

Horns need to win!!

Guillemette FO to right center. Peyton Powell gets us started with a single after going down 0-2, he drove the ball nicely over the SS. Flores got beaned after going down 0-2, O'Dowd hits an RBI single to score Powell. Constantine strikes out, first of the game for the horns. Duplantier grounds out. Horns up 1-0 end of the 2nd.

Lead off hitter for SH lines out to CF. 6 out of 9 first pitch strikes according to the announcer, good stuff. and Duplantier makes an error, routine ground ball to the ss and he throws it a little high, Cam couldn't come down on the bag.

after the error by Duplantier, LBJ struggles with a runner on and walks the next batter. Janek comes up and hits a deep shot over the LF wall and SH is up 3-1 just like that. Next batter hits a single up the middle. and the last batter hits a deep fly ball to LF but the runner doesn't tag and it ends the inning.

Top of the order for Texas, Kennedy strikes out looking. Campbell gets a single up the middle. Brown flies out to CF. Guillemette hits a line drive to CF and Campbell is sitting on third. runners 1st and 3rd now with Peyton Powell at the plate.

And peyton Powell comes through with his second hit of the night to score a run. runners on 1st and 2nd now with Flores at the plate. score 2-3 SH

and Flores flies out to end the inning and why i disagree with having Flores in the lineup or at least in that spot. 2 LOB. To his credit, he did hit the ball hard to deep CF.

Top of the 4th. LBJ staying ahead of the hitter, only has 47 pitches and a hard ground ball to SS and Duplantier does still throw a little high but this time Cam is able to handle this one for the lead out. 2nd batter hits a sharp ground ball right past the diving Duplantier. 1 on 1 out.

LBJ looking sharp again, staying ahead this inning, strikes him out swinging. 2 outs.

and a 1st pitch wild pitch gets the runner to 2nd, Guillemette had no chance. and after bragging on LBJ he throws the 1st two pitches in the dirt but next pitch is a ground out, 3rd to 1st. To the bottom of the 4th.

bottom of 4th. O'Dowd to start us off, Constantine and Duplantier. O'Dowd long FO to LF. Constantine hits a pretty good fly ball to left center but caught. 2 outs. Getting the bat on the ball and a good sign. Duplantier goes down 0-2 quickly and hits a weak ground ball to SS for the final out. End of 4. Texas down 2-3 still.

I'm not usually a guy that updates the game but it's keeping me busy, hopefully my updates don't suck too much.

LBJ at 55 pitches and the batter hits a lead off double off the CF wall.

This is a good hitting SH team, good test for LBJ. Crap......and Duplantier makes his second error of the game, bobbles the ball and now 2 on, no outs.

Janek at the plate, same guy that hit the bomb earler. Quickly down 0-2 though, and he hits a long fly out to RF but moves up runner to 3rd. Runners on 1st and 3rd. Stuart and Hurley warming up.
