Sam Houston St. vs. Texas

Looks like Hurley is going to close it out. Him and his 20 pitch 2 inning outing thus far.

Strikes out the lead off batter to start the inning.

and with one more pitch, the next batter tries to bunt for a base hit but pops it up to foul territory 3rd base side. 2 outs.

LBJ is close to taking that Sunday slot, up till the point he struggled on the mound with a runner on I thought he was headed for next Sunday's start. But I think he stays here for another week, he's developing well either way, his confidence is growing. There were innings i was like, I can see why the scouts are salivating over him, hes got it, just needs more innings. LBJ is going to be a force by playoff time.

Kudos to Powell, one heck of a game at the plate. It wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't have the highest batting avg on the team now.

Powell's performance is a primary reason for giving players more opportunities when they earn it. We don't win tonight without him.

Whew....sounds like Powell may have been game MVP?

aUTfan - thanks for the timely updates and helping drag the Horns over the finish line for an important win!

5-7 record on the season....very important homestand coming up.

Just finished watching this one on delay/recording.

LBJ-- not great, but not bad tonight. He really got screwed by the 2 errors. Overall pretty good for LBJ. He's established himself as a force on the mound.

Hurley-- more good 2-3 innings from Hurley. He doesn't do anything spectacular, but he gobbles up innings without giving up too many runs.

Nice come from behind win Horns!

J. DuPlantier has a bat, but we can't have these repetitive errors. He looks like a DH for this year.

Constantine is a bit too short to play 1st base.

Some good fielding by Powell, Daly, Jack, and the outfield.

At bat:

Powell -- continues to impress and over-achieve. This guy is doing great!

Jack O -- continues to work out of his early season slump. Had a clutch RBI hit. Gets a little warmer every game.

Campbell -- slowly coming out of his early season slump; same as last year. I'm pretty confident he'll end up on fire again.

Daly -- looks more like the 2020 Daly at bat than the 2021 Daly at bat, and that's a good thing; batting in the high 200s, getting on base, and that homerun was much needed insurance.

Best batters at this point in the season: Powell, Brown, Kennedy

I’m going to have to watch it again but I thought LBJ looked fantastic aside from one inning after Dup made an error. He looked a little shook to me with a runner on. Seems like I vaguely remember him coming in last year with runners on and struggling so we may need to put him in that position down the road to gain more experience with runners on. Otherwise, he threw first pitch strikes most of the time, stayed ahead and it was awesome to watch last night. Kid can pitch!

Last night was the first night we looked like a real pitching staff. Starter went a full 6 innings and and the reliever came in and finished the game. I want more of that, we start wining every game when the starters perform like that.

Still need someone to step up at first base with a bat, and we need a DH that can hit, figure those two out and we have something going. Constantine got his opportunity last night, wonder if coach tries a different player tonight?

Yep. Looked like a regular baseball team.

Constantine got his opportunity last night
J. DuP threw that ball way too high to 1B, but Thomas, Ivan, or a lot of other 1B would have leaped up and made the grab.

Thomas' bat has to heat up before he settles in there. Powell may have to be 1B this year -- I think he can play every position on the field. Put Carlson at 3B, and J. DuP at DH. J. DuP has the bat, but he's been a liability in the field--can't have that. Solution = DH.

Work Thomas in for mid week games or when the game is in the bag to get him more at bats, as I think Thomas could be a star by the time he's done here; same for Flores--use the mid-week and in-the-bag games for experience. But for now, I think our best bets to win are: Powell 1B, Carlson 3B, J. DuP DH.

And this isn't some throwaway rebuilding year.

Coach has to get the lineup settled in by conference play, where we go all out every game for the W.
