SAM and DICKER the only members of this team that sing THE EYES???

Del Conte met with the football team last night

It was conveyed that players are expected to be on the field during the singing of The Eyes of Texas.

Stop acting as if these players are doing this for no reason. Their obviously is a problem within the song that people have a problem with. ...
If The Eyes is racist, the whole F'ing university is racist.

Here is the thing, if someone, anyone, including a football recruit, feels that way, then fine.

But .... if you do feel that way, then why apply to attend UT in the first place? Why would you want a degree from someplace you think that of? It makes no sense. It's like you are punishing yourself for something somebody else did before you were even born. Perhaps before your own parents or maybe your grandparents were even born! This is not the behavior of a rational person.

Why not just go to a different school? Some place you will be happier (assuming that is possible). It's not like you have no other choices. There are literally hundreds of other schools in the US alone to attend. Do this and its a win-win for all of us.

Plus you would even be helping the rest of humanity by freeing up a spot for someone else who is dying to attend UT but cannot. This goes for all the UT-haters, not just the football players.

Speaking of the LHB and the Drum Major ...
The DM for the 2016 season (when my daughter was a frosh) was Kevin Kwaku (who is African-American) ... as far as I know, Mr. Kwaku never had any qualms about the LHB playing The Eyes (or if he did, he never voiced it publicly). For that matter, during the 3 seasons she was in the LHB (2016-2018), my daughter never mentioned anyone in the organization having an issue with The Eyes.

The Alabama question is an interesting one, IMO, given their history vis-à-vis UT.
My dad was a freshman on campus when Heman Sweatt was finally allowed to attend the law school. He mentioned to me several times how he regretted the way Sweatt was treated. But as bad as that was, it was not exactly George Wallace personally blocking the entrance. From my perspective, the different histories and current reaction to that history makes for an interesting contrast between the behavior of our current football players and Alabama's.
It makes me think we need to build a completely new recruiting model

I know many of us are holding hard and tight to the idea that our way of thinking and traditions are the only option and either get on our bus or get the hell off the 40 or portal yourself or whatever. But I also think there is a generational gap that is bigger that isn't going to make these things go away by thinking we can get a handful of players to transfer. JJ may be a troll, hell he may be Aggie PropJoe for all I know but I do think that line of thinking matches our younger alum in their 20's and 30's. Winds are changing.

I've been vocal and consistent that the Eyes issues is BS and Hartzell, CDC and TH have all handled it poorly. I agree they should have put their foot down from the start. And I don't like the way our Soccer teams, VB Team or Drum Major are handling it but again it isn't just our FB team, it's the world today.

Don't pretend social justice movements aren't happening and dividing other teams. The Sul Ross statue is a hot button in Collie Station and even the great Nick Saban marched with his team in defense of "social justice and equality".

LSOB-I dont know if you have children. Hopefully if you do they didnt dictate what happened at your house. These malcontent children at UT should not be the ones running this program. Yes there are social issues in this world, but dragging down the University will not change the world. Supposedly the coach and CDC are paid to run the program. If they cant do the job they are paid to do then exit. The same should be applied to these players .

I wonder what the posts on here would have been had TH led the team on a march down MLK with players wearing "Defend Black Lives" shirts and Caden Sterns holding up a black power fist poster.

That would have been fine with me. There's nothing wrong with protest. The problem is the extortion: Do this or else.

They threatened to destroy the program by not participating in recruiting efforts and openly calling the university racist. They led with that.

Was there anything going on behind the scenes prior to their public proclamations that possibly would have resulted in a united front instead of what we have now, which are frightened administrators, faced with being cancelled.

That is a huge problem across the US. Parents unwilling to be parents.
And Managers unwilling to be Managers resulting in the animals running the zoo, and then they can't figure out why the business failed. It's all too common in the business world today.

We live in a society where no one wants to do anything that's uncomfortable. Well guess what, being a parent will often be uncomfortable if you're doing it right. Being a Manager will often be uncomfortable if you're doing it right. If you're not willing to hold people accountable then don't be a parent, don't be a manager, don't be a coach.

I thought Herman did walk with the players when they had their march? Am I wrong about that? I do not know what kind of signs or shirts they were wearing though.

3 Kids- 18 yo son- Freshman at Purdue, 13 yo and 12 yo daughters. They don't dictate or run our house- hopefully we have raised them better. But we do battle sense of entitlement and the idea they some how they have an equal voice in how the house is run. Mom and I have to drop the hammer. It's a reality of the failings of our society and the sense of entitlement of many young people today.

My point is that I think we are going to be battling these same fallacies whether it is this group of players or another group of kids this age. My guess is Dabo and Saban have some similar battles in Clemson and Tuscaloosa but winning allows them to demand something higher or greater from those players. When you have the number of recent natties and NFL draft picks those 2 programs have had you can be forceful in your approach. Maybe I have it backwards- maybe it's their no BS- my way or the highway approach that brought the wins and the results.

I remember someone telling me, Mom or Dad or maybe another parent, that as a parent sometimes you need to say no just because you need to say no. It may not be rational at the time but the kid(s) need to hear it and understand you mean it. I did not comprehend at the time but do now and I think that is what these kids, and so many today, are never exposed. Hence the entitlement mentality.

When Herman said he was going to encourage his players to do something,he lost the argument. He is the coach,My way or the highway. I can see royal or Bear Bryant saying he would encourage the players to do something. Kids are kids, they need rules to perform. We need new leadership to right this program. If a new coach came in,some would leave. Others might perform better than expected.

SOB
Reread By's last post and see if you can see the difference. The crap from the Horn players and Herman came Before the season when everyone thought the team would win big.So your logic doesn't hold.
The question for me is since Herman kissed the snowflakes'azz why did he lose tge team?
He lost the team and he and the team lost us.

I think honestly Herman isn’t too bright. My guess is he got caught up in the woke movement and pushed his chips all in. Maybe it’s just immaturity or truly he thinks that he leading a cause. Actually you are watching him end what could of been a great career.

It’s simple, Herman has failed to inculcate any feelings of pride in the traditions of UT.
I just wanted to use a new word I learned.

There was just a report the other day how Dabo Swinney came down hard on Trevor Lawrence because he spiked the ball after a TD and got in the face of a Miami LB. Told him, if he did it again, he'd be on kickoff coverage.

Coaches need to come down hard on players, no matter who they are, for doing stupid things. Hell, Popovich came down hard on Tim Duncan, probably the greatest PF of all time. That's called being coachable.

We need to stop capitulating to 18-21 year olds

This is EXACTLY what we have been saying around here for the athletic programs since this junk started happening. They can not dictate nor run our house. What has happened to some athletes in their past has nothing to do with how they are treated on campus. It's two different worlds. When things happen in the world and they bring those same attitudes to campus it's up to the parents (Herman and the administration) to nip it in the bud. Just because they say the university is racist doesn't make it so. I've said before they get every advantage here and are treated like gods, but they somehow want to bring what happened to them in their neighborhoods growing up to campus. It's wrong. Herman let them do it now he's paying the price because there is nothing he can now do to stop it.

That's a bunch of ********. He doesn't know who stays and sings The Eyes and who does not. So some fans leave early and so we are all guilty? That's about the level of stupidity shown by TH in his statement painting all fans as racist.

When UT gives people the equivalent of $100,000.to be there for an entire game instead of the people giving them thousands of $$ to be there
Then the people would stay.
Silly meaningless statement.

That's completely fine. The team is good and are united and on the same page. The only people causing problems are the same people who said they are done with the team three games ago. If your done than be done
U right,I am done with this team and coach. However I am not done with this University. A large portion of these posters have been supporting this school long before you were born. I notice you are not a sponser, could it be you do not support the school;sonnyboy.

What's stupid is this entire argument over a song. You may think your opinion matters but it does not. The team has agreed to stay on the field but you all will still be complaining that they are not singing or holding up their horns. You all are never satisfied and think the university of Texas revolves around you. It's not that hard to just be quiet and watch the games and support the team

Okay if you are done with the team than why do you care so much about what these players do?? You not being done with the school has no affect on the football team. You can still like Texas but if your done with the team than why do you continue to watch the games and care what these players do after the game?

It seems that tradition and history mean little to you. That seems to be the case with lots of your generation. It does to a large portion of people that give money to this school.

The FancyBoots tweet is a she- not he. I don't know her but she has a quite a following and does a Longhorn podcast. I have never listened but they had Quan Cosby on last night. Many of you may know her from her burnt orange Lincoln with Longhorns on the hood. She drove McConaughey into College Game Day when they were here last year. Just a note that again I think there is a larger group that really feels the way she and JJ feel about this.
