Right Field U-Hauls/Busses

Thanks mad, but I'm not the only one. This is a team effort. A lot of people are helping out.

And everyone still can help out. Kirk Bohls responded to my email yesterday and said that he is very interested in writing a story about the buses. He has been busy with basketball and recruiting but plans to run it by his editor. He asked me to keep the info coming, so if anyone still wants to help they can. Send me any stories, memories, thoughts, and pictures. I should point out, you don't have to have a specific story about the buses, your opinion on them not being allowed would be helpful as well. Send anything you can to [email protected]. Thanks!

KVUE is putting together a story on the buses for tonight's 10 o'clock news. We got some very good news today which will be the subject of the story. I hate to say anymore, because I won't relax till I am sitting in right field watching the Longhorns beat up on VCU. But, I'm happy to report, things appear to be going in that direction.

Good luck IRF. I'm glad that I posted this for y'all.

Of course, if they ever actually complete the final plans for DFF, it includes seats around the outfield. However, with the "speed" that baseball gets capital projects, that might happen about 2050.

Reporter just called, appears our story got bumped for some lame story on immigration. Who cares about that? But he is still interested in doing a story, it just won't be tonight. Hopefully, he can report on us all being out there next week!

I couldn't get into a UT-Rice game a few years ago b/c it was sold out and the guys on the uhaul let me and my girl watch and offered drinks to us. I love those guys.

This pisses me off.

I have never seen or heard anything about these final plans for the Disch. Please explain and/or post renderings.

I was one of the original bus guys that started this whole thing back in the mid 90's. We used to park our Sycamore bus out in left field, in the parking lot, before the Foundation took it over. I can remember that we'd have as many as 30 people up there at once (We also had a van parking along side it). Many good times had by all.

Good luck in keeping this tradition alive.

4th,

While I've never seen a rendition, I heard 2 years ago and again recently that the ultimate plan (someday) is to enclose the whole stadium with 6-10 rows around parts of the outfield. I think we'd have to show that we can sell those tickets first though.

As I write this, a compromise is being hammered out with the City of Austin, UTPD and us. It should allow the buses to remain in right field. We hope to get final word on the deal before we are scheduled to speak to the city council on Thursday. As soon as I get definitive word, I will post it on here.

Thanks to OB for sounding the alarm and alerting us. And thanks again to everyone who has helped and supported us on the right field buses. Apparently we do have a voice!

Just got confirmation form the City of Austin, the no parking signs are coming down! Buses will be in Right Field, the tradition will continue!!! Who says you can't fight city hall?

Thanks again for all the support!

ignatius, my comment was commenting that they're probably not the ones complaining... and i speculated that because they're already living in low income conditions. don't be an ***.

see y'all out there next saturday... can't make friday

In Right Field, I appreciate your help with this. I am glad we could work the right channels and get this thing done. As we spoke about earlier, it will be a challenge to do the weekend only thing, but hey better than nothing.

See everyone in 9 days

So weekends only? I guess that means land rush on Fridays.

I parked there for the Regional series in 2002, the 1st year we won the CWS under Auggie. We got the biggest Uhaul you can drive and parked there on Friday. We had to use 2 cars there to hold the spot from like Monday on. It was a blast. We baked like anything though; had a couple of blankets on the top but we were basically baking from both sides.

I won't ever do it again but glad I did it at least once. I have checked out one of the buses (the one that looks like an english pub on the inside) during an inning of the Rice game last year. I was impressed but I still prefer being inside Disch-Falk. Too bad they don't sell beer in the stadium.

The buses can park there during the week as well but cannot park overnight. But we can leave them there all weekend. UTPD had to save some face, they had to get some restrictions. We got a very important person working in the city that worked out the compromise and appears to be on our side. I'm just glad we could work it out prior to opening day.

InRightField...great job! Any chance your contact can get the parking along MLK reinstated? That is going to take away a lot of peon parking, and quite honestly I don't know where people can park...maybe across the freeway at the football stadium. Since people park at the Disch for football, that only seems fair.

Little by little, everything that has given the Horns a distinct home-field advantage is being eroded. Thanks to all of y'all, at least this tradition won't be discarded!
