Ricky Seals-Jones

OK...so no longer recruiting him... does that mean that the effort behind trying to get him is at a "Ok you know we want you but we are not chasing you any longer". or is this a "You really don't want to come here so Se Ya". Does this mean that Texas has rescinded their offer? Does he still have an offer?

Just read the free article on OB... the offer is no longer there. Definitely looks like a Lache 2.0. Not that he is getting $$$ or anything just using all that his fame can bring him.

having someone advise you to help you make the decision is different from having a street agent with his hand out. maybe that AAU coach is that advisor. obviously mack and barnes thought highly enough of him to meet with him when they met with ricky.

RSJ might be dirty, he might not. i just find it interesting that in the rare case when a recruit doesnt jump at the chance to be a longhorn, foul play is automatically assumed.

After reading some post on the matter.... I guess this is whats best. Everyone who really wants this kid is seeing an irrational stance from the coaches by not recruiting him any longer. Others are stating that its street agent or $ related.

Well... what I can figure is this. The kid had an offer. He Took it and then decided that he didn't want the Texas offer and opened his recruitment.

Texas said... OK, we will give you some time to think it through, when will you decide? He says after summer break. Well Summer has pretty much gone. Form a recruiting stand point... We have what many agree is a solid recruiting haul with this years WR freshmen and next years WR commits. Seals-Jones is a great raw athlete but I doubt the staff wants to wait it out till Signing day to possibly be let down. There are other kids in the state that are pretty good. Seals-Jones had his time and if he really wanted to be a Horn... I think he would know it by now.

I mean come on... those of you who are True Horn fans... there is no doubt that you want to be. You wouldn't decide after the season based on how many wins and loses the team had would you?

i can buy that.

i can also buy that RSJs comments about the UT offense didnt sit well with mack and therefore mack thought it best to part ways in order to start working on other players who might be committed elsewhere.

I agree. I live in Waco, and I can probably give you a list of "cant miss" recruits that will stretch from Waco to Austin that "missed". For whatever reason. Recruiting is a crap shoot. Sometimes you win, sometimes you dont.

I thought Quincy Russell didn't qualify. I also recognize its rare case for the horns to lose a commitment.

And I know I heard rumors of street agents when Thomas Johnson switched to a&m. There was also rampant speculation when Hassan ridgeway was making his decision.

Quincy Russell is at A JC right now. I heard the plan was for him to return after his second year and his grades were up but I am not sure.

I seem to remember one of the horn journalists saying that the aau coach was at the meeting with Barnes

And to my knowledge Mack has moved on from Quincy and is not recruiting him. Most signs point to Oklahoma state.

FWIW, according to traffic on some of the paid sites, even though RSJ and his mom really like Texas, the recruitment of RSJ is being driven primarily by his AAU coach and dad. And, reportedly, the AAU coach and/or dad have started moving his recruitment into gray areas that Texas does not wish to go. If that's true, then Texas is doing the right thing.

Lets move on forward from this mess. No sense in cluttering up our minds on this any longer.

Dillo's got the right idea, and those with prior knowledge of how decommits play out have probably, like me, moved on long since.

This is NOT to slam RS-J...he's a fine talent and may go on to be a superstar, but it won't be for the Horns. Any guesses as to why UT's quit recruiting him are just that, speculation, and not that important anyway.

If you look at the track record, UT hasn't been burned much by players they've backed off of or that decommitted, and there's no reason to think things will be different with RS-J.

I'd have loved to see him in burnt orange, but it ain't happening. Somehow, I think the Horns will move on and be just fine with the players that WANT to play for UT.

In that spirit, this is the last I intend to have to say about RS-J except good luck wherever he winds up.

I know it's a tough call for RSJ. But it sounded like he really wanted to come to Texas and that was always his choice. I believe he always knew he was going to be a Horn no matter what (even after de-committing.) But once you committ the attention goes away. I think he missed being sought after and was wanting to be back on the market. If true it was a bone headed move knowing Mack has a history of honoring his committment even when that kid does get hurt in a HS game. If he really was serious about going to another school then it's very unfortunate for him. I do agree and trust Mack's decision to move on.

His cousin and recruiting adviser is Eric Dickerson. I'm not sure why anyone is really surprised at the unfolding of these events.

What's been done and said is all behind the program now. Its time to move on. Good Luck RSJ where ever you go. Texas will be fine without him. Missed opportunity or dodged bullet ? It will all work itself out on its own over time. As for me... this season is where my focus will be.
