Rick Barnes is an atrocious coach

The thing that also stood out to me down the stretch was that with Brown at the point, the whole grab and foul strategy pretty much went away. I don't think OSU put us on the line once in the final 2 minutes - which they really should have made a better effort to do, but having J'Covan handle the ball takes away a lot of the opportunity.

My question is why does he looked pissed off and still yelling at players with less than a minute to go and up by double digits? I wonder if this group is a hard to learn bunch or if he is fed up with little mistakes? Either way I cannot complain... they won on the road last night by 12.

I'm certain that Coach Barnes is incredibly relieved to be "lauded" by GoHornsGo90. It's great that Coach Barnes has been able to go 19-3 overall and 5-2 in conference. At least that's sort of close to the 22-0 and 7-0 record that GHG90 would undoubtedly been able to accomplish, IF he wasn't so busy anonymously posting on the internet.

So Gohornsgo90, you think RB is an atrocioius coach? Texas should dump him and hire you because you know so much about basketball because, after all, RB is ATROCIOUS.

It's funny how everyone now wants Barnes to let Hamilton just play without fear of coming out of the game, when last month everyone was complaining about Hamilton's shot selection. Classic!

Looking at the schedule I truly expected us to have 1 loss at this point. I thought we would split K State and UConn (either win the first and have a let-down game for the second or lose the first and come back and take care of business in the second). I never expected a loss to Baylor @ home. Completely shocking. I expected 2 losses out of Kansas @ home, @ Baylor and @ Mizzou. And the conference tournament was a crap shoot, so I would take a loss there. So 3 losses regular season, 1 loss in the conference tourney would have been OK and a strong run in the NCAA tounrament. Now we have 3 losses, and I still expect 2 losses out of the Kansas/Baylor/Mizzou games (if not 3) and then a loss in the conference tourney. That is 5-7 losses. The difference between 3-4 losses and 5-7 losses does not seem like that much, but is the difference between a 1-2 seed and a 3-4 seed, which obviously makes a difference for a run in the tournament.

I don't understand people saying we don't have a PG who can run the offense. Dogus does a great job of that. We don't have a PG who other teams have to take seriously as a scoring threat, but he does keep the offense running and create opportunities for the team pretty well.

Hamilton hitting from outside and midrange is definitely an important key for the team, but I don't know if Barnes should be pilloried for having little patience with Hamilton as of the Baylor game.

In the games leading up to the Baylor game, Texas was really poor with Hamilton on the floor. Hamilton went 8-25 in 54 minutes against A&M, KSU, UConn, & Tech with 5 turnovers. While there isn't a play by play available on Texassports.com for the KSU game, the other three games have Texas going -24 in the 37 minutes Hamilton was on the floor, -11 in ten minutes against A&M, -9 in 17 minutes against UConn, and -4 in ten minutes against Tech.

Not good.

So against Baylor, Hamilton misses badly on three shots and commits a turnover on a really silly pass, all in less than 2 minutes, and he winds up on the bench. Given the team's record over the previous 10 days or so with Hamilton on the floor, the benching was understandable, and we don't even know if there were other attitudinal or behavorial factors in play.

That said, I was certainly glad to see Hamilton have such a great game against OSU. Some of his shots left a little to be desired, however. It's a good thing he hit those.

Hamilton's style did not change one bit. He shot 16 times in 19 minutes. He shot early in the clock/off of rebounds. These things nearly got him pulled again, but he was hitting.

In the second half, he missed a long three six seconds after getting back into the game. I am pretty sure that Barnes has talked to him about this kind of stuff. Todd Wright kept him in the game by walking down and talking to Barnes. Then he missed another shot. But after the driving dunk, he started feeling it.

He hit a step-back-and-sideways three to put them up 52-45. The shot came right after his teammates (more than one) worked to corral an offensive rebound. He was open, but that's not the way RB wants to approach possessions in the half-court, and I don't blame him. So while the team is going nuts, Barnes turned toward the bench and started shaking his head.

I don't think Hamilton going off has changed Barnes's feelings about how JH approaches the game. If he plays passable defense, he won't give up what he scores.

Please explain to the fans of UNC, Florida, UCLA, Michigan, Indiana, Arizona, and Louisville why Barnes is an atrocious coach.

Izzo ain't that great either. Got punked last night by 18 to the #16 team in the country. Puuleeeze....

GoHornsGo90, my post wasn't intended to suggest that he shouldn't play. I think he should be playing more. I was just pointing out that a month ago I was in the minority, and now after one good game everyone thinks Barnes is an idiot for not playing him more.

For us to win it all we need him to play more. And for Mason to NEVER be on the court with Balbay.

i havent read the thread yet, but i have made this thread before, and everyone went out of their way to defend barnes. defend jordan hamilton playing 2 minutes at baylor. or only 20 or less in like every game this year. dude needs to be on the floor.

can we all agree that barnes is not an atrocious coach? he has certainly made some coaching mistakes this group, but he ain't atrocious.

No way, starchild. I can't agree to that. I agree with several others on these boards that say he is atrocious and really sucks as our coach. RB won only 270 games his first 11 seasons at Texas. That's averaging only 24.5 wins per season. The jackass posters on these boards could do MUCH better. He's 19-3 this season (so far) and got us to No.1 for the first time EVER. He is ******* ATROCIOUS. Terrible. I can't believe we still have him as our coach. We should dump him for somebody better.

It's ridiculous to use a word that harsh on Barnes. THere is no debate there, but today he apparently didn't start J'Covan and went with the backcourt of bricklayers. I have a word for Barnes: STUBBORN.

And it sure was a turn for the better when Brown and Hamilton came in to fling up a bunch of quick, crappy shots in the first half, wasn't it?

Dex is worthless today. He looked like he was going to be aggressive.. but that totally stopped once OU switched to zone.

Please Rick. Coach them to a victory here.
