I watched. The officer knew Castile was armed. He wasn't reaching for license or insurance. The officer already had that. The officer said Castile was ignoring orders and reaching for his weapon and the dashcam seems to support that. The officer was horrified to do what he clearly thought was his only safe course of action.The dashcam video was shown in court and the jury acquited the officer.
Is it a reasonable expectation that when people get pulled over to reduce tensions by just doing what the officer asks? Is there some class of people for whom it's unreasonable to ask them to show their hands or extinguish a cigarette?
I'm pretty much cooperative in most situations, even when dealing with folks who have no authority. Maybe since it's so easy for me to put my hands on the steering wheel and answer questions politely I don't know what it's like to have an inner voice calling on me to be defiant.
