Rangers Magic Number

I agree with FWHorn. It's a bit troubling to see the offense struggle the way they did against the Mariners (e.g., they were 0-10 with RISP today) knowing that the A's pitching staff will be much tougher and the A's have been giving the Rangers fits this year. I will not feel comfortable until the magic number is reduced to zero.

I think we will see a split vs. the A's and then we can almost certainly win the division by winning 2 of three vs. the Angels.

That scenario would be 6 of the necessary 7, so we would just need Oakland to lose one game against whoever they're playing on the weekend.

The way the team is playing now, I just can't see anything more than a split.

Time for Josh to suck it up and be a pro. Beltre is playing through the pain, and Josh needs to do likewise. Three of the four games against the A's this week would just about sew it up. Pitching lineup:

- Monday - Holland
- Tuesday - Darvish
- Wednesday - Perez
- Thursday - Harrison

Following the A's, three against the Angels.

I'll be there Wednesday evening. I'll see if I can find a good mojo recipe for Perez.

Magic number is 7 but it is really 5 and could even be 4. 4 wins over Oakland wins the west or any combination of 3 wins over Oakland in the 7 and 1 over the Angels wins the west, or even 2 against Oakland and sweep the Angels (a less likely prospect) gets the title.

The Rangers have a two game lead on the Yankees for best record and you have to think Yanks go 7-3 over this last 10 so Rangers need to go 6-4 to keep the pole position for the playoffs and get a hopefully pitching depleted wild card game winner.

that 1-0 loss on saturday is really a thorn in my side. it would've given us a much needed extra game in front of yankees/baltimore(both of their schedules are extremely easy in the final week 1/2) and being up 5 on oakland we'd pretty much just need a split at home to finish off the division.

oh well, we always hit like **** in seattle. i'm hoping a nice 7 game homestand back at home will energize the bats and get us rollin' again.

^Hi, WorsterMan. I'm working on the mojo recipe as we speak. This is the last game in my Rangers Mini-Pak for this season, so I want it to be a big win for the Rangers.

I got my presale announcement for Post-season tickets last week. Think I'll pass on the tickets - they're a bit pricey, and Mrs. HHD is flying to Florida mid-October to visit her Mon and sister, anyway. I do plan on renewing my Mini-Pak next season - and hopefully we'll have a brand new "World Series Champions" flag to fly on Opening Day 2013!

HHD - we were hoping you would go to the playoff games to bring the mojo and carry the flag for your fellow Zealots out here in cyberspace. Oh well.......

Gosh HHD, I hope the R's can win the "you know what" this time around - (don't want to jinx it). I think they are real hungry but....

I cannot take another close call like that game 6 last year... I am still traumatized by that!!!

Go Rangers!!!

Here we go. Rangers need to start off on the right foot and take Game 1. Wish I had more confidence in Holland's ability to keep the opposition in the yard, but I don't. I'm setting the over/under on Holland's first gopher ball at 3 innings and I'm taking the under.

Rangers offense will need to score runs against the A's because, despite their overall poor team batting average (next to the last in team BA in majors; just ahead of Mariners, just being Astros), they still give Rangers' pitchers fits. Drives me nuts.

well forget game 1 pretty much because of all around retarded f'ing baseball. good goin' guys! if we drop game 2 with Yu on the mound, you can throw top seed in the AL out the window. at least hambone hit a homerun in 1st game back...

also wondering why washington pulled oswalt after only 29 pitches and 2 effective innings. of course ross comes in a promptly gives the run right back... i want to seriously break something right now.

Woo-hoo! Beltre goes deep to tie it at 4. Say thank you, Mr. Holland.

Let's take advantage of making this a new ballgame. A rally is a terrible thing to waste.

Oh crap. Tie game into the top of the 9th and Wash brings in Nathan to face the 9-1-2 hitters. Second day in a row for Nathan, which means he is probably out for tomorrow. Need to get a W tonight.

Whew. Nathan doesn't look all that sharp (16 pitches- 8 strikes, 8 balls), but gets a strike-em-out, throw-em-out double play to end the inning.

Need to end it now guys, and they have a great opportunity to do so as the A's bring in Tyler Ross, who has an ERA over 6.40.

Strike 'em out, throw'em out!!! Doesn't get any better than that! Let's get 'em in B9 and stuff your worries in a sack!

And Beltre delivers the game winning hit.

That dude is nails.

Horn69, in addition to reducing the magic number to 5, they are one win away from clinching a playoff berth.

Salem the black cat and I are definitely having some serious love for Adrian Beltre. She says he should be the league MVP, and I think she's right.

Rangers!

Beltre = MVP

I gave OAK no shot to catch us, and now I can hear Don Meredith serenading Melvin and Moneyball "adios"

Huge win after Holland only goes three and the Rangers run themselves out of an inning and basically look all night long like they were headed to a loss.
