Rangers Magic Number

Fellow Ranger Zealots,

I offer my most humble apology for the fiasco at The Ballpark tonight. My mojo recipe was a disaster, and I apparently cheered very poorly. This loss was totally my fault - unless you think lousy pitching, shoddy defense, and anemic hitting had something to do with it.

I did make one smart decision - Mrs. HHD and I left in the eighth inning and had a pretty easy drive home.

Matt Harrison has to deliver tomorrow. Win and the lead is back to 4 with 6 to play.

Someone else needs to brew the mojo
for tomorrow - my recipe was a miserable failure tonight.

HHD, don't take the bullet for this one. We all failed miserably. Let's hope with the dawning of a new day, that this team takes advantage of its home park and KNOCKS THE CRAP outta the ball.

With it 1-0 and 2 runners on...TAG says maybe the R's can have a 5-run inning like A's yesterday. Cha-ching!!

^^^ And that's just what they do. Good thing though, because Harrison doesn't seem to have his best stuff today. He's into the 3rd inning and is already over 50 pitches. Rangers lead is down to 4 (6-2).

Harrison's hard to read for me. He always looks like a deer in the headlights - but he does even when he's pitching great.

Always amazes me that these #8 and 9 hitters hitting .220 can homer off us. Arrrgh.

Man, Harrison just doesn't have it today. After the Rangers stretch the lead to 7-2, Harrison gives up a 2-run HR to the A's catcher--you know, the guy hitting .189-- to cut the lead to 7-4.

Looks like we're going to have to sweat this one out too. Hopefully the Rangers hit parade will continue.

After some tough early innings Harrison has settled in and the Rangers are in cruise control up by 5 at the stretch.

Cannot say enough how huge this game is, hold on to win and the Rangers did what they had to do which was split series with Oakland and maintain the four game lead. Really would have preferred to have won the series but absolutely could not lose 3 of 4 and be down to just 2 game lead. Need to hold on today and then take 2 of 3 from Angels to feel comfortable going to Oakland.

Good news is that the Rangers avoid the black hole (Feldman/Perez/Oswalt) pitching spot this weekend against the Angels, bad news is Rangers start with it Monday in Oakland so they better not go into that game with it being a must win type situation.

Why bring in the set-up man for your closer with a 5-run lead? That's not the situation that he's geared for. Most of the time, those guys get lazy and end up making mistakes, like Adams just did.

Now they're going to have to use Nathan in the 9th. Kinda hoped they wouldn't have to use him with the Angels rolling in.

Wash and his bullpen moves...

Wash wanted Nathan to have to pitch in a Save situation.

Seriously, I think he wanted to pitch these guys the last 3 innings regardless. Harrison barely obliged by getting thru 6. And, obviously he wasn't going to die with Adams, he trust Koji and it worked.

Let's go Nathan

Way too exciting in last two innings but got the win and split the series.

Magic number is three for A's and 2 for Angels so any win this weekend against them eliminates them from winning west and clinches a wildcard berth at worst.

i swear every teams shitting hitting catcher, usually hitting around .200, always murders the rangers. annoying.

^^^^ This. At least the Angels' catcher is hitting above the Mendoza line. I'm not really counting on the Rangers getting a W against Weaver, but it sure would be nice to pull this one out. Dempster is throwing way too many pitches (some of which are too fat), so they're going to have get some help from their own bullpen and get Weaver out of the game to make it happen though.

All the Rangers need to do is to win one game in this series (or an A's loss in its series with the Mariners) and win one game against the A's to wrap up the West. Of course, it would be awesome to end it at home too. Perhaps we can get some help from Blake Beavan and the Mariners tonight to lower the magic number by a game (wishful thinking).

Okay. I realize the rout is on and all, but I'm about ready to put Scheppers on a seat next to Mark Lowe on the next train out of Arlington. That dude has become a major liability too.

Well, Rangers trying to rally in the 8th. Beltre hits a 2-run homer to close the gap to 7-4 just before Cruz kills any prolonged rally by getting thrown out at second after sending one into the corner. Looks like he came up limping. Can't afford an injury to Nellie this late in the season.

Rangers lose 7-4. Oakland leads Seattle 3-1 in the 5th. Unless Seattle can stage a comeback, the magic number will not decrease tonight.

We'll have to hope Holland can get a W tomorrow. I'm setting the over/under on the inning in which he gives up the first home run at the 2nd, and I'm taking the under. The dude has been giving up way too many long balls this year (30, at last count). Hopefully, the Rangers offense can keep him out of the loss column.

Danno - I was ready to put Kirkman, Scheppers and Lowe on that slow bus back to Tucson months ago... we might even put Feldman and I am temped to put Ogando on there at times. These guys are killing us at critical times... geeez

Been watching Seattle and A's while Rangers in a rain delay. It looked like Seattle was going to take down the A's until the A's scored one in the 8th and hit a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 9th to tie it at 4. Headed into extra innings, but I suspect the Mariners just lost their chance to do the Rangers a favor. Oh well...

^^^. Yep. A's hit a 3-run HR in the 10th to win it. What an amazing run the A's are on.

Yet another reminder that, if the Rangers want something done right, they're going to have to do it themselves. It needs to start tonight (weather permitting).

Looks like the rain wins tonight - DH tomorrow, 1:05 and 7:05. I assume the pitching matchups will stay the same.

It would really help if Seattle could squeeze out a win tomorrow - it's always tough to sweep a DH.
