Rangers Countdown

whooohoo! I should take my act to Vegas. The Angels just split with Toronto, just as I predicted.

I think the clinch will happen tomorrow, and now I'm probably being a little picky, but because of the time change the Rangers will not actually clinch on the field at all, The Rangers will clinch late tomorrow night when the Angels lose to the A's tomorrow night.

I am calling this because of the double-wammy of the A's playing a home day game today and the Angels having to fly after an extra-inning night game tonight.

Now if the Rangers were to lose tomorrow night, then the Rangers could clinch on the field Saturday afternoon.

Or, if some miracle occurs and the Rangers and the Angels both win tomorrow night, then the Rangers could clinch on the field Saturday afternoon.

Whichever way it goes, I'm saying it's all done by the end of the play Saturday.

Rangers win 5-3 and have clinched no worse than a tie and a one game playoff for AL west. Magic number is 1 and it could come later tonight in Anaheim as A's have early lead on the Angels. Otherwise Rangers can clinch division at home tomorrow.

Detroit won in 11 over Baltimore so still tied for second best record but since dont have tie braker need to gain a game on the Tigers.

Job #1 done. Now back even with Detroit for the #2 record. Baltimore had the game won last night and let Detroit back in. Detroit has Baltimore and Cleveland at home to finish out. Tall order for Texas to win one more game than Detroit, but that is what has to be done.

Magic Number is ZERO!

Rangers win AL West as Oakland beats Angels.

Still excitrement for these last five games as Rangers and Tigers play to see who gets second best record and chance to have home field advantage in ALDS (not to mention avoid the Yankees in that first series).

But needless to say the Rangers Countdown that was purpose of this thread is now done and the team has made the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Division Crown No. 5!!!

Now, the Rangers can set their sights on getting the 2nd best record to secure home field for the ALDS while getting guys some rest where needed. For this long-suffering (though not as much as before) Rangers fan, this stuff never gets old.

Rangers win today to celebrate the Division championship and Baltimore beats Detroit. 4 games to go and Rangers have 1 game lead on the Tigers for second best record in AL.

this is so huge! Let's say we hold our lead over Detroit, face NYYankees in first round, beat Yanks,

Then we have home field for ALCS!, four games at home,

If Rangers hold lead against Detroit then they avoid the Yankees and will play the W/C winner if it is either the Boston or TB and will play Detroit if the Angels win the W/C. Yankees have best record but cannot play an AL East team in ALDS so they play the third best division winner if W/C is from east or the W/C winner if it is the Angels.

thanks for the clarification, Rangers win today to keep pace with Detroit, Anaheim is gonna beat Oakland any minute, so the Angels will be motivated to win against the Rangers.

I am so amazed at this team, every person is taking his turn to show up big at the plate, today it was Yorvit, with the two homers.

I completely missed it this year on this team, I thought losing Cliff Lee would hurt the team, it appears the team is stronger than ever.

It almost doesn't matter who the Rangers face in the playoffs, I expect them to win every series, with the possible exception of the Yankees. I rate the Yankees series as a tossup.

And think of the ultimate drama, the chance to face Cliff Lee and the Phillies in the World Series!

Wow!!!

Rangers would be big underdogs in that series, and what a series that could be.

Rangers sweep Mariners and Detroit beats the Orioles, so magic number to get second seed is at 3. Hate to see Chance Ruffin get knocked around a bit, but happy to see the Rangers continue to roll.

Rangers and Tigers both win so still one game lead with three to play. Tigers host Cleveland while Rangers are on road in Anaheim. Verlander wont pitch again so have to hope Cleveland can take one meaning Rangers likely need to win two in Anaheim to avoid the Yanks. Interestingly the streaking Devil Rays may not be a team anyone wants any part of either so it could be pick your poison situation.

Rangers and Tigers win Monday night. Rangers only pitched CJ two innings last night as he will be game one starter on Friday and still got road win. Magic number to have second best division record is 2 with 2 games to play.

Meanwhile TB and Boston are now tied for W/C. best case is Rangers win tonight and Detroit loses while TB and Boston stay tied today and tomorrow and then have to play a one game playoff Thursday before traveling to Arlington Friday.

Rangers and Tigers both win last night so entering the final day of season Rangers have one game lead but no tiebraker. That means eiher a Ranger win or Tiger loss clinches the second best record and home field for ALDS against the winner of the wild card. The Angels scratched their planned starters for last night and tonight citing too many innings pitched this year which means no having to face Weaver tonight on the mound.

Boston and TB remain tied and if both win (or both lose) a one game playoff is tomorrow.

Today should be fun as National League wild card is also tied.

late to this celebration but not the celebration winning the West. Now let's get this home field thingie from Detroit to start the playoffs.

This is probably a stupid question but I thought I'd ask anyway. Since the Detroit result will be - for the most part - known by the start of the Texas game, does Washington treat tonight's game as a playoff game?
In other words, let's assume Detroit wins. Harrison looks shaky early and gives up a couple, does Wash have an early hook and do absolutely everything in his power to win the game?

^^^^ The Rangers/Angels finale has an early start time (7:05 I think), so the Detroit/Cleveland outcome will not be known at first pitch. Per Evan Grant with the DMN, Wash said they'll bring their "A" game to try and secure the 2nd best record and home-field for the ALDS. With a win, the Rangers will reach a franchise high for wins in a season and be 30 games over .500.

As I understand it, there will be no one-game playoff. If we win tonight, we clinch homefield. If Tigers lose tonight, we clinch homefield.

But if we lose and Tigers win, they clinch homefield because they won the season series.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Texanne-

We are hoping for a one game playoff between TB and Boston to determine who plays the 2nd seed rangers. Both TB and Boston need to treat each game this week as a playoff already and are relying on tired arms.

Rangers start one hour after Detroit so they will know where they stand throughout in terms of whether it is a must win. I have to think the Rangers play it like a playoff with everyone but CJ and Colby on deck and available to pitch. Home filed and avoiding the Yanks to take on a tired W/C winner is absolutely preferable to having to go to NY for the division series opener.

First look of evening at 7:15 CST has Detroit trailing by three in fourth inning. TB trails by 5 and Boston is behind by 1 but both games are early. Rangers and Angels just getting underway.

8:15 update

Race for second best division record
Rangers lead 1-0 through 4 full
Tigers lead Indians in bottom of seventh 4-3

AL wildcard race has Red Sox leading 3-2 in bottom of sixth and Yankees lead TB 7-0 through 5 full. Unless Baltimore can come back looks like Sox will win W/C.

In NL Atlanta is up 1 through 7.5 at home against Philly while St. Louis leads 6-0 through 4 full in Houston.

Both W/C's are coming down to wire.

Detroit beats Cleveland 5-4. Rangers tied at 1 headed to ninth. Harrison went six full surrendering just the one run and Uehara went one inning before surrendering to Adams who is now on the mound.

NY led TB 7-0 going into the bottom of the 8th but Rays plated 6 so now 7-6 headed to ninth. Meanwhile Red Sox are in rain delay in the seventh leading 3-2.

Atlanta gave up the tying run in the top of the ninth and is now batting in bottom of tenth. Cardinals beat Houston so Atlanta must win.

Rays have a 6 run rally in the bottom of the 8th to make it a one run game. Braves and Phillies tied at 3 in the bottom of thew 10th. Great way to end the regular season.

Rangers and Angels tied at 1 going to the top of 9. C'mon Rangers, let's push one across and close it out.
