Random Season News

Juwan Mitchell has portaled himself
He played in 6g, with 3 starts last season
I thought he looked pretty decent at times
With Dele out all of spring, we are getting thin at LB, hybrid safeties probably going to get time

Josh Moore's case is making its way through the system
Smells like a plea deal has been or will soon be worked out. Non felony
The current outlook is that he will probably be able to rejoin the team

Mixed emotions. Great that he escapes without a felony and should be able to rejoin the team at some point (assuming he is man enough to apologize to the team and take his team punishment). However, what was he thinking/doing carry around a weapon? Bad decision making.

This guy, as opposed to some who've made bad mistakes, has done a pretty good job of owning it, been contrite, and shows signs of learning from this. He seems very serious about using this to better himself on and off the field. I could be wrong, but I think this could be one of those cases where a young guy takes his lesson and parlays it into greater focus, dedication, and discipline and "proves it" on the field. Strikes me as a hungry dude. We'll see...

This one is sort of "eye of the beholder." Whatever you think about it is whatever you think about it. We will see what the head coach thinks eventually, but for now it seems like we are willing to give him a second chance

If we were doing better in the WR room, I highly doubt that Moore would be back, but we are not doing well and he isn't charged with a felony so I also think he will be back.

As I said earlier, he didn't use the gun to break a law (that we know of), nor did he hurt anyone. For whatever reason, he is accepting his plea deal and can move forward. Let's hope he has learned something and can be a better citizen. There won't be another chance for him.

247 had an update on Moore

".. Well, it appears he’s finally about to put his legal trouble from a misdemeanor gun possession charge behind him, according to sources.

Moore’s attorney Mark Sampson wouldn’t comment other than to say a court date was likely to be set soon that would bring resolution to the matter. Another source close to the situation said County Attorney David Escamilla’s office was close to signing off on an agreement to reduce the charge because Moore had met a requirement to undergo gun education as well as a number of community service hours...."

Herman had a presser today--

DeMarvion Overshown to Will LB (said NFL scout says its his natural position)

Anthony Cook will work at Nickel during spring practice

J.Ossai to “JACK” position, which will allow for more rush off the edge. “He’s aggressive, he’s twitchy, he’s fearless. I love him. I absolutely love him" Byron Vaughns is also at JACK.

Juwan Mitchell - now out of the portal - "We’re counting on him to make a push to be a permanent starting LB.”

BJ Foster will have shoulder surgery (a nerve)

Jordan Whittington back to WR

Roschon Johnson remains at RB

Josh Moore will compete for reps at WR. So it seems clear he is back. Herman said he was never off the team, just did not play.

Malcolm Epps to TE

Herman also said new OC Yurcich watched every play from last year, is focused on tempo. Wants to "go fast." IMO, we do have the players to do that this coming season (we did not so much have the necessary players for that the last 10 seasons).

On Andre Coleman, Hermans said he "bonded well" with the receivers last year -- Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay praised him, which influenced the hire

On hiring Valai, Herman said this was "the one guy Chris Ash was willing to stand on the table for." In addition, he gave a great interview.

Jay Boulware will run special teams.

Ash said DBs Chris Brown and Josh Thompson have stood out on tape. And that the Texas DB room has more guys who could get playing time than any room he has ever coached

After listening to OC presser, I get the feeling he is a 'yes man' who will not change much of anything we have seen. Time will tell...actually the results of the USF and LSU games will tell.
Herman's presser was the S.O.S....... I had to laugh at Herman's, " ..we are not going to be stubborn about it" comment when asked about something.....Next question should have been...."Hell why not ? You were stubborn as **** about our defense last year and our offense as well."......Listening to him, do you think he has CHANGED or LEARNED anything ?

Herman has made massive changes and is coming off a season in which Texas saw the most injuries through the season since 1997. I was there, I have not seen this many injuries since then. (2019) 3-1 early, 3-4 with the worst stretch of injuries, 2-0 when we found some health again.
We’ve had multiple players change positions, most of the staff is new. TH is killing himself to prove he can do this job. I respect what he is trying to accomplish and all the effort. He’s 25-15 now and could be 38-17 or 35-18 by the end of next season. I think he’ll end up somewhere in there. Sorry but that’s a damn good coach coming from the Strong era. Patience Horn Fans!
