Random Season News

Unfortunately, Bud Lite is / was the official beer of UT / UT football or something like that. Not sure of the actual relationship/contract with UT and AB.

However, I would think UT and CDC have some kind of contract out clause for something unbecoming to UT like the Dylan Mulvaney debacle??

Perhaps this was previously discussed and I did not see it.

In the current world of instant gratification its encouraging to see kids with elite ability do the right thing. I hate the portal and NIL as it will destroy college football. Lots of these kids come from not great environments and learning a life skill of you follow thru will serve the vast majority of them far better than chasing the next shiny object. The media generates a false story to get clicks and something to talk about but Eli's response was excellent and not the norm today.

Jonathon Brooks, Keilan Robinson, Adonai Mitchell, Jordan Whittington, Xavier Worthy, Ja’Tavion Sanders, Christian Jones, Byron Murphy, T’Vondre Sweat, Jaylan Ford, and Ryan Watts were invited to the job interview portion of NFL Draft season at the Scouting Combine.

Double-digit number of Longhorns invited to NFL Combine
Wow-when was the last time the Horns had this many players participating in the NFL Combine. A very good metric to gauge the quality of the program.

Moon,

I have no idea what the answer is, but my money would be on 83. When you have a fifth year walkon who played maybe 15 plays in five years signed as FA by the Steelers and make the cut for a few years, there was some serious talent there.

Which raises the question – that has probably been addressed numerous times on here previously: What was the most devastating loss you can remember? 84 Georgia, 2001 Colorado, 2008 Tech, 2010 Bama, 24 Washington? (Probably Bama because of its impact on the program.)

Maybe a better question would be, have we won or lost a greater share of those types of games? Gut feel, I’m afraid we’ve lost more of them. The two huge and obvious wins were 69, and USC in 2006.

2010 Bama was the most devastating for Mack Brown, which didn't make sense given that we played pretty even with the #1 team in the nation without our starting QB. He went all-in on "we need to play like Bama" and it cost him his job in 2013.

2008 Tech... I just knew our season was cooked. Everyone knew that OU would beat the **** out of Tech at home and it would catapult them to the CCG. It should have been us.

2001 CU I can kind of forgive because we probably didn't deserve to be there. Backed in to the game and we would have been absolutely destroyed by Miami in the Rose Bowl.

I think the most devastating loss was the Tech game for a couple of reasons. 1) We were a better team that season than in 2009. With Quan and Orakpo (two all time greats) we were just much better than the next season. No doubt in my mind we would have won the NC. 2) We had two chances to win that game and completely failed at both with the dropped INT and then Earl inexplicably just not tackling Crabtree. All time missed opportunity that still hurts me to think about.

I feel like we have been on the receiving end on those types of losses more than we’ve given those types of losses.

Duke,

That may be the most difficult question ever on this site. A few:

1) 73 OU I think that was 62-13 & the third loss in a row to OU was the beginning of the end for the DKR era

2) ND in 71 Cotton Bowl - dirtiest damn team I've ever seen.

3) 79 A&M We were headed to the Sugar Bowl with maybe our best defense ever, a defense which I think was on the field 50 minutes of the game. A&M coaching staff did an outstanding job of scheming and carrying out their plan.

4) UGA Cotton Bowl

5) UCLA - Might be higher up if not for that face saving FG so Mackovic wasn't shut out

6) Freedom Bowl - that was a political nightmare. Fred accepted bid without Deloss knowing and to get even the "we hate Fred" group kept the school from offering tickets. Season ticket holders got no notice or opportunity to purchase tickets. Miserable conditions in SoCal and worse performance.

7) Cotton Bowl against the convicts

8) Third Ward in the Dome I think we threw more picks than completions

9) Miss State & Jackie Sherrill tie with Loserville & Schnellenberger

10) Mack Brown era needs its own catagory for losing to far less talented teams
