Random Off-Season News

It's because I was born and raised into it, and the owner is a tiny, miniscule piece of a lifelong team fan. His ineptitude frustrates me, but I'm a Cowboys fan.

I grew up in Lake Highlands. Old Cowboys were my neighbors right there by the practice field. Even in the 2010-2019 years I was having coffee with some of the old 60s-early 70s guys. And found out Roger and I got our haircuts at the same place one day when he walks in and sits down across from me. Everyone stops and I start a story from an old lineman of his that he'd told me JUST THAT MORNING. Hey, Roger, I just had coffee with ____________ this morning and he was saying____________... and I don't even get to tell it because Roger took it over and told the whole story but from his perspective.

I had the entire 1978 roster memorized and the three-deep.

I'm more Dallas Cowboys than Jerry Jones.
In the early 69’s while still in high school, a friend and I drove up from Austin for a Cowboys game. Eddie LeBaron was playing quarterback and the old Cotton Bowl was half full, maybe. My friend’s mom worked for Homer Garrison and so we had his good seats. The Cowboys were a big deal and I was an avid fan. I sat through the humiliation of the loss to the Cardinals in a St Louis bar on the Monday night total destruction and for all my years in that city defended my boys.
They lost me some when Bum bought
the team and then came Jerry and the embarrassment to Tom. That is when I said no mas! Bum once bragged that he talked to Jackie Sherrill every week but to Tom only once a month (or year, not sure). Bum was all aggie.
I had access to our company’s season tickets for years in Dallas and avoided going to the games. A new owner with Texas roots could get me back. But another Arkansas flim-flam man could not !

Grew up loving Johnny U until Cowboys came along. LOVED Eddie LeBarron. Made my 1st Cowboys game in 1964 when Dandy Don had taken over. Was a dye in the wool fan until Earl was drafted by the Oilers. Became a die-hard Luv Ya Blue. Then Hostonians balked @ Bud Adams' blackmail & he moved my team you know where. By that time, Earl was gone & Jerry Glanville had made a mockery of football (actually thought he was great 'cause the Oilers went 5-0 in preseason, then finished 4-12 (?) In regular season. Tried to like Titans, but naaaaaa. Around then Jarrah bought Cowboys & with all the class of 2 pigs f***ing in mud fired Tom. I have lost most of my interest in NFL. I cheer for whichever team has the most Longhorns. I'm happy when Cowboys win because it makes Mrs. 1sa & my son's happy (in wedding, my Daughter-in-Law even vowed to console my youngest when Cowboys lost). NFL is pretty much dead to me.

I too have mostly lost interest in the NFL. I follow the Texans not too closely and the Cowboys even less so. To me, the NFL has simply become a bad product and doesn't interest me very much. I hope that college ball doesn't become a junior NFL due to NIL. If it does, I may have to find something to do in the fall that is actually constructive.

Chinstrap, my journey with the Cowboys and the NFL pretty much mirrors yours. I sort of rooted for them in their SB wins in the early years, mainly because I disliked their opponents "from the old days". The only good decision Jerry Jones has made as owner was hiring Jimmy Johnson as head coach. Everything else is laughably inept. The firing of Landry, along with the mercenary nature of NFL players since free agency, has reduced my interest in the NFL to a nullity, except like 1sa I want Longhorn alums to do well.
I hope NIL and the transfer portal don't do the same to college football that free agency did to the NFL, but I'm getting pessimistic about that.

He did a pretty good job scamming the Arlington electorate into building him a state of the art stadium from where, as I understand, he does a good business selling ladies underthings. Have to give him credit for selling ladies panties. Also give him credit for being a master grifter.
One of my major turn offs to the NFL came when they inducted that @$$μ©|€ into the HOF. Greatly cheapening that body.

Indeed he did. And I'm sorry to have to confess that voted for the stadium. I regret that decision, but it's too late - we're stuck with the Cowboys and Jerry. And as long as Jerry is the GM, the Cowboys will remain mired in mediocrity. If they get to the playoffs, they will fold very quickly. Maybe Jerry should move the team to the Philippines and rename them the Manila Folders.

My post should have read early ‘60’s. Team was stiil brand new at the time.

I cannot figure out how to get to the “edit” function with this current version and since I use my phone, I need a lot of help.

I became a fan in the mid-60's as well, deciding to make them "my team" when Clint Murchison told everyone "Tom Landry is my coach" (not sure of the exact wording, but that was the clear meaning) after lots of fans and sports writers called for Landry to be replaced after the lack of success in the first four years or so. Admired his resolve, confidence, and loyalty to his coach. Another reason I despise the way Jones ended Landry's career.

I use my phone also.

To edit, touch "...'"Edit should show 1 of 3 options. Note, the ...is accompanied by a down arrow, a function I don't have on my phone.

I go back a way with the Cowboys; I recall being elated when they tied the Giants in their first year to go 0-11-1 instead of 0-12.

Loved Meredith and the bloom went off when they let him walk. Still a fan after that but I thought Jones was a jerk from the start and Jimmy Johnson was an arrogant jerk. The real hero of the glory years was Mike Lynn and they don't have a statue or a marker for him anywhere.

The present situation is good for some great memes. I like the one about King Kong as a little chimp when the Boys last won a title.

If you have never been to Fayetteville, first of all count your blessings. Secondly, one does not shake that pencil necked second ratedness. Not ever.

Sanders' season (including the bowl game) wasn't that great against the better teams.
Meaningless bowl games aside, Sanders was putting up way better numbers than Ewers with about a quarter of the talent on the OL. A bunch of his 2023 losses were due to having zero run game coordinator and an injured Travis Hunter for most of the season.

Really, for NFL rookie QBs it's all about the tape. If guys on good college teams have ****** footwork and over/under throw problems, their journey pretty much ends the moment they get to the NFL. GMs believe they can't take on the mental aspects, and then they become wandering pariahs. But if guys on ****** teams have good footwork and no problems pinpointing the ball with strength and accuracy (Roethlisberger, Allen, etc.), then they get their chance. I was hoping Colt McCoy would be one who could overcome those odds, but the injuries also did him in.

I wasn't comparing Saders to Ewers.

Fun Jerrah fact of the day.

Since the Cowboys last Super Bowl in 1995, they are now the only NFC team to not make the NFC Championship game in the 30 year span since then. That has to sting his ego a bit....or maybe he just doesn't care.
