Your mistake is identifying "we" if by that you mean conservatives with the Republican party. If you want to know what the purpose of the part is, look at what they do.
 
Question was fine, answer was idiotic and easily followed up but not done, simple as that. Why not is the question? Polite or ignorant are the possible answers.

Nash, the problem with the question is that it gave her the opportunity to give a BS answer that was difficult to follow up on under the circumstances. Suppose she had asked it this way (more like what 2003 suggested).

"I understand that, if confirmed, you will be the first African-American woman to serve on the Supreme Court, correct?" KJB would give an affirmative answer - verbal or at least nod along. "Since this issue has been forced by many in the political class creating a new and very silly ambiguity, I have to ask what makes you a woman?" If she flimflams around and says she's not a biologist, you can easily come back and ask, "then how do you know and how can the President who nominated you know you are a woman?"

Her prior affirmation traps her into answering the question or backpedalling on the main thing that qualified her to be Biden's nominee. She'd have to answer it or say, "Senator, to be honest with you, I don't know if I'm a woman. Could be a dude."

I had to frame questions for the courtroom on a contingent fee, meaning not only was the client's money on the line, the firm's money (and therefore my money and my ***) was on the line. Nothing in government service can compare with that. And I what I wrote here is what I pulled out of my ***. It's possible to do much better.

Sorry. A contingent fee means the firm's fee is a percentage of the recovery rather than an hourly fee or a flat rate. If the client loses in court, we just wasted at least months and often years of work and take it in the shorts for the case expenses. The client never owes us anything out of pocket. Luckily I only lost 3 times in 10 years of doing the Work of the Lord.

Her answer was so stupid any one, after taking a moment to get over the ludicrous answer, could have nailed her with only “what the he’ll kind of answer is that?” Just saying the “I ain’t a dog ..... “ would have been fine for me. This has all gotten so stupid no one knows what to say.
 
I’m conservative so I’m biased but I thought most of the questions were fine. It’s politics though. In the real business world we would say, “why does it matter?She is getting confirmed regardless.”

I am nitpicking her a bit, and I agree with your general sentiment. However, you're a regular guy with a real life in the real world. You probably don't have time to obsess over goofy stuff like this. I only catch it because of my background, but otherwise, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. This is a US Senator with a multimillion-dollar staff allowance, and both she and her staff live this crap everyday. I hold them to a different standard.

The Democrats have the votes to confirm her. (Neither Manchin nor Sinema are going to throw her under the bus.) We thought it was more important to grandstand over the 2020 election in Georgia than to control the Senate.
