Our next OC and DC

I would love to see Blake Gideon coaching DBs and Beau Trahan coaching special teams.

That will never happen with Herman’s level of insecurity - see also Mack Brown.

Graham Harrell to Texas as OC? You know who had really good special teams in 2019? Houston: #1 in blocked kicks, 0 blocked kicks allowed, #1 in blocked punts, 0 blocked punts allowed, #17 KO return defense, #2 net punting ... special teams coordinator ... Blake Gideon

Why does Houston have a dedicated STC but we do not?

OB says Herman will talk to at least 3 other DC candidates before making a decision, but they consider Chris Ash the leader.

Bobby Burton --

I am told that Herman is leaning on former Texas OC Greg Davis in an advisory role in the OC search process. That means if things go beyond Harrell and Brady, Davis will play an integral role in identifying other candidates.

Eric Nahlin on Harrell --

Yesterday I outlined the concessions he'd be looking for -- autonomy, being able to hire his guys, etc. He'd also be looking to get the right "feel" for Herman. There are some baseless rumors out there of Harrell having issues with Herman. Herman may not have the reputation of being the easiest guy to work for, but there's no in-person experience for Harrell to have an issue with Herman that we're aware of. Compared to good-guy Clay Helton, is Herman "hard" to work for? Maybe so but enough to keep Harrell from making the move? Doubtful.

I’m sure Harrell is a great OC. It just sounds like he is not a good fit at Texas both from his perspective and Herman’s. He will likely be HC at Tech soon.

The thought of paying Graham Harrell over a million dollars is beyond repugnant. As I’ve posted before, good salary and heavy performance incentives.

Bringing Greg Davis in to help is a huge signal to organize the committee for a new head coach. You don’t pay a guy $5 million a year if he doesn’t have the contacts to vet and hire his two top assistants. That’s absurd. .

You don't see it as a signal that Tom is doing his damnedest to get it right?

I don't think he's a fit here either. I was wondering if he was using us as leverage to get more money either at USC or maybe one of the HC gigs.

Nope. I'm not sure if he is grasping at straws, conceding he doesn't know what he's doing and is trying to regain control by making supporters happy, or just simply does not have a clue. Unless he has changed drastically, Harrell & Herman will be the worst duo in the NCAA since the Cale Gundy/Chuck Long war in Norman.

I see bringing in Greg Davis to consult as a positive move. Perhaps (warning - pure speculation here) somebody told Tom the tale of John Mackovic being given a blank check to hire the best defensive coordinator out there, and Mackovic, being an order of magnitude or two more arrogant than Herman, used that check on Bobby Jack Wright, and used it without consultation or advice. He chose to sink or swim with BJW, and, well, he sank pretty hard.

Maybe Tom reached out to Mack or somebody else for advice and the Greg Davis thing arose from that. Either way, if Tom is taking input from outside sources, I think that can be nothing but helpful.

As the the G Harrell issue, I tend to agree with you. I don't see those two working well together.

SN,

Right after it became apparent that Cunningham hired Mackovic over the boisterous objections of "the committee of 300", Mackovic was told he was going to retain Bobby Jack - he had no choice.

I like Bobby Jack and consider him a friend. He did a great job in Norman.

I'm not a huge fan of pure air raid either. Still think you need to run the ball, especially with the backs we're going to have. Assuming Robinson comes over we'll have Ingram, RJ, JWitt, and BR. That's a hell of a RB stable.

I know I’m a Dinasoar but I would love a power spread featuring the option and running. 45+ rushes per game!

I think TH wants that too, I hope he does it. Forget the haters.
:hookem2:

Why is no one considering Snow for DC? I love the way Baylor swarms to the ball like red wasps. Or is it really Rule and Snow is just the puppet?
