Our next OC and DC

Back at the college level, Valai is back recruiting, including in his home state of Texas. As mentioned, the Euless native helped trained high school and professional athletes after he days at Wisconsin and helped found the company Grindhouse Sports Training near Dallas. ..."
I think this hire bodes well for improved recruiting results in the DFW area.

My concern level regarding Bijan is high.
He noted Stan as the primary reason for his choosing Texas.
This fact aside even, SD is a huge asset for us, and I hope we are able to retain him...though it is likely out of our hands.
We need to lock up Bijan and Stan...literally...until next season starts.

I doubt Bijan will change his mind at all if Stan is hired away to a better position. Instead Bijan will applaud his success. I guarantee Herman has spoken with him the minute after Drayton had a viable offer or two.

Get down with Jay Valai as the new DB coach.
I bet he can twist a few arms when he recruits. And I bet any DB who do not tackle will learn very quickly to improve.

Report: Texas expected to hire Rutgers CB coach Jay Valai

Lead picture may be incorrect. Here is a better one.

Have you ever met anyone from Berzerkley that had sense enough to pour piss out of a boot? Dumbest collection of people I've ever met, and God help you if you have to work or negotiate a deal with one of them.

Yes, one has to be pretty sharp to matriculate from there. They do not give degrees away for just attending 4 years.

I have no problem with someone that attended feCal, if they can do the job, you take them. I hear Lipoli is one of the best recruiters in the game. Depending on who we get at the Dline, this might be one of the best recruiting staffs we ever had.

I want us to dump a truck load of money on the WR coach from Ohio State, he is a witch of a recruiter and has done an amazing job with development.

I am excited about Lupoi, he is a badass. I am probably more sold on him than Ash. But its true that there were some "recruiting issues" with him in the past and I do not remember the NCAA ever coming down on him(lol). Plus, I am not saying we should put him in charge of the entire university. I just want to see and complete and total commitment from Herman to winning. Let us let go of this idea we can only hire people we worked with in the past. It's narrow minded and reeks of insecurity. Let's hire badasses across the field.

That said, 247 Texas thinks that Lupoi was actually interviewing for the DL position, not LB. Which is possible given his background. So there is a split among the paysites on this. We will have to wait for some clarity (bc if it was the DL then we already know what happened there)

Anyway, they say another possible at LB is Dave Huxtable, ex of DC of NC St. And I am willing to bet you can guess who he used to coach with. Need a hint?
at Wisconsin in 2011

Lastly, 247 also brought up 2 possibles names to replace Drayton if necessary -- Frank Wilson and Louis Ayeni (Northwestern)

Don’t care what the buyout was. If he was the best, hire him regardless. Do we really want to bargain shop?

So apparently what happened with Jones is that he simply turned us down. In the end, it was not about the money, that was just thrown out as an excuse.

That play was literally inches away from failing grandly, and the play of Sterns showed that he was not 100% even then. Hats off to LSU for pulling it off.
Almost had him sacked, but putting every DB on an island as TO did and continued to do is what got him fired. He was too damn stubborn to learn. Reminds me of a mule.

Aren't there a lot of successful defenses that require DBs to go it alone? I think the success happens when you have a DL (and a strategy) that doesn't give the QB all day to find a receiver.

I admit being somewhat disappointed. We could have had both Emmett Jones and Tosh Lupoi on our staff as of today, two potentially great hires, but are ending up with more bro hires instead. Plus Drayton may be leaving which is somewhat unsettling at least from the Bijan Robinson perspective (we have to hope IT is right (and 247 wrong) about him not wavering on his commitment).

But Yurcich is not a bro hire (or I dont think he is) and he could likely be the addition who makes the biggest difference. And so I will probably, once again, be overly optimistic come late August.

I thought that's the whole idea: Sometimes you get burned, sometimes you are victorious. "Shut down corners" make a name for handling being on an island....

I am optimistic about our OC and DC hires, I am also somewhat optimistic about Vitali hire as I think he might be a guy to pay huge dividends. I am disappointed by the misses, but lets see what happens moving forward. The key is what happens with Drayton and the TE coach. Many teams fill the TE coach with what amounts to their key recruiter. Brewster has made a living being the TE coach and key recruiter. I want to see what we do with that coaching vacancy.

We still have a lot of spots to fill, once we have a full staff, then I will judge our success/failure. Remember our pockets are pretty deep, we can still turn to money whipping some pretty good coaches.

Frank Okam, Frank Wilson, Brian Hartline, Sherrone Moore, Ken Wilson, Larry Scott, and Mike Jinks. That is just my short list.

In the beginning He might have gotten the OK, but not so sure CDC and the boys are willing to give Herman lots of $$$$$$ these days to fill spots that may be one and done, especially when they are probably going to have to be 3 year guarantees to get them to leave their jobs or choose us over other programs that don't have a coach on a hot seat situation. Its not all about Texas. Its more job security ( at least for a few years or more ). Its a big gamble if the $$$$ isn't multi-year.

You do realize none of the new coaches signed 3 year contracts like you keep saying. Yurcich and Ash are two years. The position coaches are one year. You said we’d go 6-6 this year and next year. We’re 8-5 now and just dominated #11 Utah. At this point after the bowl game it’s not a big risk to come to Texas for a position coach. We have upgraded our OC and DC. Where did you graduate from?
