Iowa State 50 yard TD to take the lead on Oklahoma. Now if ISU's defense can figure out that Rattler almost always throws when rolling to his right and almost always runs for it when rolling to his left.....

I wish you would have kept that a secret. Jeez

We squandered a perfect opportunity this year. OU finally does not have a Heisman caliber QB and nobody else in the conference is a playoff caliber team either. So, if UT had just played to our abilities. . . . .oh well

Iowa State should have this. They shouldn't even need to punt, they can pull the final play intentional safety off like TCU did.

EDIT: doesn't matter, he got the first down!

Could have been 1-2 each!
Honestly does it matter. Both these teams suck. We're just splitting hairs on who sucks worse at this point. When we were good we blew mid tier Big12 teams out by 5 TDs. Now every game is a dog fight. Are those other teams better? No, we're just worse.

Fortunately for Leach, he’s at a place that would be happy enough to break even in conference play with a win or two over some big rivals.

My USAFA Falcons took the first step toward the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy by beating Navy 40-7 - pretty decisive. Army won't be quite so easy, and the game will be played at West Point.

HHD, what did you think of AFA's helmets? All red would have been better IMHO. The rest of the uniform was cool, and the new Super seems to know what needs to be done

Viper, I agree on the helmets - a bit cleaner with the red would have been better. From all I've heard so far, the new Supe is admired very highly - and he certainly said the right things in his on-field interview. Everyone seems to think he is the right choice to succeed LtGen Silveria.

Boy they looked good!!! I don't think Army has a chance against us. It's time for the CIC trophy to come back to Colorado Springs!

I loved the uniforms. Great tribute to some badass dudes

^Will, I'd really like to see the Falcons win the CIC Trophy. Army has a pretty good team this year, and it's always tough to beat them at West Point. But USAFA appears to be very good (currently riding a nine-game winning streak), so they'll have a decent chance to win the game. I'm not so confident about the chances to win the Mountain West Conference - to do that, the Falcons will have to beat Boise State, and that's a very tall order. It is a home game for USAFA on 31 October.

If anyone wants to see some of the look, strategy, tactics, and feel of the option/triple option era in college football (most of the 1970s), watch the academies play. The fullback is extremely important and must be stopped before you do anything else on D. [DKR - "You don't want my offense coach, you want my fullback!"]

Last year's Navy QB Perry was about as valuable to Navy's football team as Commodore Perry was to the Navy's fleet back in the late 1800s. Without Perry, Navy's O looks pretty pedestrian. Shane/Dallas/SMU may skunk the Middies this year. AF looks pretty solid this year--and that will probably hold true against opponents other than just Navy.

Chop, the triple option offense is an ideal fit for the Falcons - undersized, but very quick linemen and quick-hitting running backs. The linemen don't have to overpower the bigger defenders, they just need a quick influence block while the QB makes his read. And USAFA does appear to have a pretty good stable of RBs, including a fullback who can hit the hole and grind out 4-5+ yards when he carries. And because the defense has to respect the FB, it sets up the QB and trailing back to run the last two options.
I like the team this year, but I'm still concerned about Boise State - they are very good. At least USAFA doesn't have to go play on the smurf turf this season. Maybe there's a chance playing them in Falcon Stadium.

Friday night and GaTech is playing Louisville. Louisville fumbles on first drive. GaTech has a freshman QB with potential. GaTech converts on fake punt on fourth down to keep its first drive alive. GaTech scores after good pass followed by good run on next play. Louisville ties it up after long drive with 24 seconds left in the first quarter. (They are playing in the rain). Louisville holds GaTech, and now is down inside the GaTech five after a long drive. QB keeper for TD on fourth and goal. Louisville leads 14-7 half way through the second quarter. GaTech QB is off target tonight. Maybe it's the rain. After Louisville converted a 4th and 7 to keep its next drive, it scores with a slant pass to the end zone. 21-7. I thought (hoped) this might be a closer game. . . just as I was about to lose hope, GaTech executes good 2 minute drill and is first and goal with about 45 seconds left in the half. . . . TD pass. 21-14. The GaTech drive took 49 seconds. 43 seconds left in the half. . . . Halftime. Almost half way through the third quarter, GaTech has driven to second and goal at Louisville 8. Third and goal inside the five. Rushing TD. /Extra point blocked. 21-20. Louisville kick returner fumbles kick-off--he was lying on top of GaTech guy when the ball came out. GaTech makes them pay for the turnover. Sims in for rushing TD. 2 point try no good. GaTech leads by five. . . . Louisville drives for a TD to retake the lead near the end of the third quarter, but misses their own 2 point try, so the lead is only 1. 27-26 . . . After some more back and forth, GaTech tosses a 19 yard TD pass on third and goal (Tech had backed up on a penalty). Misses two point try again. GaTech back on top 32-27
