10/26
Today has some big-time games, and plenty of other pretty good ones on the schedule.
Auburn vs. LSU-- In the battle of the tigers down South, LSU hosts a tough defensive team in Auburn. Burrows is much better than Nix at QB, and that's an understatement. Even Auburn's tight D won't slow down Burrows and crew enough for a win. Plus they're at Baton Rouge at night. Look for the Bayou Bengals to beat the Tigers of the Plains by a few TDs.
Wisconsin vs. aOSU--An Ohio State University is on a roll, and probably has the better overall team. In fact, one can argue that aOSU has played better than anyone thus far in 2019. I really want Wisconsin to upset them, but would be a little surprised if it happened.
Penn St vs. Michigan St--Penn St travels to MSU to face a tough Spartan D (and an interesting field goal kicker). MSU has the horses on D to keep it close. Look for a classic Big 10 mash up. Penn State's team speed and the overall talent differential would make an MSU win a significant upset.
Notre Dame vs. Michigan-- Here's my upset pick. Domers go down at the Big House. Harbaugh redeemed in the eyes of Big Blue fans--until he drops another game and he's right back on an even hotter seat...
OSU vs. ISU--The Mullet faces some competent defensive coaching. Let's see how he does. Roll a dice or throw a dart at a board to pick this one...
Tech vs. KU--Tech struggles to hang in or near the middle of the Big 12 pack. But today, KU is off and is a bit of a let down after an epic struggle against the Mighty Longhorns. Look for Tech to light it up, but give up almost as many points. Tech wins in a fairly close high scoring game.
Iowa vs. Northwestern--Iowa downs NW in a low-scoring smash mouth classic Big 10 game. Iowa is better, possibly much better than the 1-5 Cats. Iowa plays good D, very good D, but without much of an O to round it out. Hawkeyes control the game but don't win by that much on the scoreboard.
Miss. St. vs. aTm--A battle of the maroon farmer types in the SEC. This should be a good gauge of whether the ags are: (i) a pretty good team who just can't take it to the next level, (ii) a team destined for perpetual mediocrity, or (iii) a dumpster fire. As usual, Mond has a difficult time getting the ags O hitting on all cylinders. Flip a coin for the winner. These teams are pretty equal.
Arkansas vs. Alabama--Normally, this should be a hog slaughter. But with Tua hurt, the Hogs only go down by a respectable margin.
Boston College vs. Clemson-- Watch out for the trap game. BC often plays Clemson tough, and the Tigers haven't been themselves in some recent games.
Ariz St vs. UCLA--Can 2-5 UCLA extinguish the dumpster fire? I doubt it. Look for 5-2 Ariz St to top the Bruins in LA.
Cal. vs. Utah--Cal travels to Salt Lake to take on the 6-1 South division leading Youts. Cal's good pass rush makes it surprisingly close, but look for the Youts to prevail.
Washington St. v. Oregon--The Pirate goes Duck hunting (with some wooden pistols or a musket or something), but probably shoots blanks. O's QB Herbert is very good, and WSU's porous run D gives the Ducks plenty of opportunity to waddle down the field. While I'd like the Pirate in an upset, it's unlikely at Autzen this time.
