OTHER GAMES

FSU coach made two terrible decisions. Cost his team the game. Hermanesque.

Calling TO right before the snap on the fg cost them, the kick was good. after the ball was moved up, the shorter kick was No Good. What a stupid move. I understand why, but that move showed lack of confidence in the kicker.

It was the right move but bad result.

The timing was the issue. He waited way too long to call the TO. His kicker was preparing — mentally— for the 50 yard kick, and he made it. But by waiting until the last second, he destroyed his kicker’s confidence. That was not necessary. So in the kicker’s head, just imagine what he’s thinking: “I made it 50. I’ll look silly if I don’t make it at 38 yards.” The coach destroyed the kicker’s psyche.

He iced his own kicker!

FSU should have brought the other QB back in for overtime.
Moon, gotta disagree. ND, playing a 3 man front for much of the game, changed it in overtime (or perhaps late in the 4th Quarter.) So the running game was not as attractive. Yet FSU kept running in OT.

FSU had the right QB. Simply, they didn’t take advantage of his skill set, passing.

At least one ballot award can just stop already after yesterday though...Milton is the Comeback Player of the Year. After what that kid went through, I put his just getting on the field on par with Alex Smith. But then almost take the team to victory after being down 18 points with a quarter to go...BOOM! He should get it even though the school took the L.

It was not a terrible call.
He didn't wait too long to challenge because his assistants got him the information late. Then they informed him that this may be an incomplete pass.
So he did not stand there like an idiot with relevant information effectively icing his kicker like you are insinuating.
He got the info late and made a late challenge.

He is just the comeback player of the first game of the next season. So what. Good for him. I know the announcers were making a big deal about it.

I'm thinking you missed the severity of the injury and that he did not play in 2019 or 2020, and had also never even been expected to WALK without pain, much less set foot on a field of play.

Again, I disagree. Regardless of what happened in the booth, the most important coaching decision was to manage the psyche of his kicker. Whether or not it was his intention, he did ice him.

And think about this. If he wasn’t sure whether or not to challenge the call, why wait for feedback from the booth? It’s one timeout. If he calls it and it is wasted, the impact is much less than what actually happened.

What we saw — a stoppage of play — just before the ball is snapped on a critical FG is a scenario we see play out multiple times every weekend. However, we never see it happen as a result of the kicker’s coach making the call.

So again, regardless of his intention and notwithstanding feedback from other coaches, the result of the decision was to ice his own kicker.

Maybe he didn't ice his own kicker. Maybe he just missed it.
Kickers do miss kicks, with or without there being a timeout.
He made the right call, challenge, with a bad result. Ok negative nancy.
I am sure the coach wishes he had not called a timeout. But if i remember right there was no rush on his first kick because of the whistle. Don't know if that is relevant.
You question his decision based on hindsight. I say he made the right decision based on real time.
This is why your argument doesn't hold water.

Pompoms, it’s ok to disagree. That’s what boards are for. And BTW, I prefer “Debbie Downer.”

BTW, what do you think of Norvell’s decision mid 3rd Quarter to go for it on 4th and two from inside his 30, down 11? That was one of the worst decisions I have seen in a while.

Definitely agree.
I know he was going all out for the win but hey that was a little reckless.

I've never seen compelling evidence that "icing" has any effect on FG percentage.

It's also worth nothing that both FGs in football and FTs in basketball are unaffected by home court/field advantage. The psychology doesn't seem to work the way the popular narratives would have one expect.

How about broadcasting a hypnotist over the loudspeaker:

"You're going to miiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssss it"
"You're going to miiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssss it"
"You're going to miiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssss it"
"You're going to miiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssss it"

In case you missed this one

Say Big Ed: there's another one of those guys in a "sissy blue shirt." This one's mowing over a defender--sorta like UCLA mowed over your O and D fronts. Why, I think you'll get to face them later this year...

Damn...that was almost like one of those epic Earl clips from the Oiler days...or Bo steamrolling the idiot that played for the land thieves and fizzled in the pros.
The Boz.....
Turned out to be a real good dude these days after all that

I'm going to get a jump on this week's games and say I expect Oregon and Iowa St to get exposed this weekend...both overrated.

BIG game this coming Saturday, 11 Sep - Air Force at Navy. A win in Annapolis is the first step in winning the Commander-in-Chief Trophy and bringing it to Colorado Springs.

Big game only in the sense of history...the reality is that Navy flat sucks and has for a few years. Air Force should take this one easily...they are 6 point favorites with an O/U in the game of 41.
