OTHER GAMES

Rutgers is taking some cheap shots and getting flagged for it. Still they’re up 10-0 on an 0-3 U of I.

Wake DB just wrestled the ball away from Mack’s receiver near the goalline for the INT. Halftime in 20 seconds.

Wake 35
NC 24

kudos to the bettors who took the over.

Hartman, Wake’s QB, is lighting them up and Wake moved it well rushing too. Mack’s O is doing well also. All O no D. Again, great game if you bet the over line.

Welp.

It appears that IU will be the team to challenge the Buckeyes for Big 10 supremacy this year. IU vs aOSU is next week at the Horseshoe.

Looking at some of their games/highlights this year...their QB looks pretty talented to me...and has great chemistry w wide receivers who aggressively catch the ball.

Wake moved it downfield but got a FG.

38-24 Wake

Then Wake’s DBs learned how to cover. Mack punts it back to Wake.

Hatman is really good. Part of his success must be attributed to frequently having all day in the pocket to throw. Wake’s OL is good.

Wake is lining up some in power formations and ramming it down UNC’s throat. This sets up Hartman’s play action crossing patterns to TEs and WRs.

There he goes again Hartman in a play action crossing pattern to a WR. First down.

Now a misdirection run for 10+ yards and another first down.

Wake’s OC is earning his keep.

Wide open TD pass along the sideline for UNC!

TD erased on an illegal block flag after the catch. A basic clip / blocking in the back after the catch.

Now a catch and rambling run by the TE deep into Wake territory.

Tarheela knocking on the door

Fade pattern in the endzone. TD UNC! UNC’s OC is also warning his keep.

Either that, or both defenses suck...

Wake 45
UNC 31

The UNC fans are noticeably booing when anything goes wrong.

And that is why the coach tells return men to never run backwards.

UNC punt returner fields the punt, runs with a deep arc to try to hit the right corner, then reversed direction and runs backwards and to the left. Then he gets tackled around 10 yards behind where he fielded the punt. Reminds me of some of our returns last year.

Late 3rd Q:
Howell has 410 yards for UNC
Hartman has 339 yards for Wake

After trading defensive stops, the Heels are on the move. Short passes. Into Wake turf.

Wake is using some unusual formations where they have trips WRs to one side with a TE, but they’re not split out wide They’re about 3-5 yards out from the TE. They’re running and passing out of this a lot today. I’ve seen us do something like this on rare occasion. The key to all this gaudy offense today has been a lack of pressure on the QB and some pretty cool play designs.

Wow. NC with a catch and run down the sideline for a 46 yard TD. Speed and play design. 7 point game now!

45-38 Wake.
Early 4th Q.

Battle of two very good QBs.

Miami goes nowhere, so VTech gets the ball back at its own 40. . . . but VTech can't make a first down either, so Miami will get the ball back.

Wake receiver drops an easy button hook on third down near midfield. Wake will punt.

NC is blitzing LBs through the gaps now to try to get to Hartman. Better D than the first half at least.

Also, the refs can’t keep the laundry off the field today. Lots and lots of penalties.

Sam Howell has now set the record for passing yards in one game for UNC. Just completed a 37 yard flag pattern. Well into Wake turf.

45-38 Wake

If you like offensive shootouts, this is your game.

The U drives and scores a TD to take its first lead of the afternoon with about 6 minutes left in the fourth. 2 point try is no good, so all VTech needs is a FG to retake the lead.

The U picks off VTech's first pass on its next possession. I may switch back to Nebraska/Penn State because Penn State has pulled within one score. . . . nope, VTech holds Miami and will get another possession

Nebraska can run out the clock if they make a first down on this series. It's about third and five, and Penn State has taken a time out. 2:47 left in the game. Penn State trails by 7 . . . Incomplete pass. Penn State gets the ball back with 2:34 left at its own 31. . . . Penn State has it at midfield with 2 minutes left . . . another completion to the 42 with 1:37 left . . . another completion to the 27 with 1:30 left. . . Finally, an incomplete pass. . . . another completion to the 20. Amazing catch at the sideline and out of bounds at the 10 with 53 seconds left. . . . Incomplete pass to the end zone. 2nd and goal with 48 seconds left. Another incomplete pass. 3rd and goal with 44 seconds left. QB sacked by maximum blitz. Penn State takes its final timeout. One play left to try to tie the game. . . QB sacked again. Game over. Nebraska wins.

It's always weird seeing South Alabama games on websites. It's like "Louisiana-Lafayette is beating ... the USA? Huh? Oh."
