Wow!

57 yard FG attempt.
Short
Fielded by Etienne deep in the endzone who runs it back to midfield and is tackled by the kicker.

ND 23
Clemson 13

I’m happy to say I missed some stupid political speech and watched the Notre Dame v Clemson game instead.

Just saw the replay and it looked to me like that fumble was on Etienne. Pitch was slow and might have lost yardage regardless, but the ball hit him right in both hands and he didn't grab it, just let it bounce off of his palms.

I just saw that replay also. I’d also put more blame on the RB as it looked to me like it actually bounced off his face mask and the Irish defender took it from there.

Yeah, on seeing a second replay I think you're right. A defender came into the backfield with little resistance and I think Etienne looked at him and took his eyes off the ball, and thus didn't bring his hands quite to the right spot.

South Carolina goes for it on 4th down from the Texas A&M 40, down 27-0, and fails. Halfway through the 3rd, this one is pretty much over unless the Ags pull an impression of their UCLA game.

Oregon leads Stanford 14-7 at the break. I haven't seen much of that one since I couldn't find the channel, but it's back on ABC now.

Baylor still leads ISU, but the Cyclones have cut it to 7, and BU just punted it away.

Somehow in the last 5 minutes the Ags already went down and scored and got the ball back. SC has only 101 yards of offense.

Breece Hall scores on a counter play where he cut all the way back to the opposite edge and nobody caught him. 80 yards in just 5 plays and now it's tied in Ames.

ISU blocks a punt and recovers in Baylor territory.

ISU 31
Baylor 24

Play-action pass ISU. TD

ISU 38
Baylor 24

On 4th and 6, Baylor beats the blitz with a quick-hitter to the back over the middle and he ends up with a 60 yard TD. 38-31 Cyclones with 8 minutes to go.

Good play by the DB to save 4 points a drive after Clemson saved 7 by forcing a goal line fumble. 26-23 and the Irish haven't scored a touchdown on offense since the first play of the game.

Baylor gets a stop and will have the ball back with 4 minutes in the game.

UCLA actually in another fun one. They were down I believe 38-7, and it's currently 48-35 and they have the ball back as well.

Brewer throws one right to the defender in the end zone which should kill that comeback. The other Ursine comeback is still alive as UCLA blocks a Colorado field goal.

What is that sound of musical instruments I hear in the Clemson and Irish game? What’s that you say? A band? I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Bruins got one more TD but couldn't get the onside. Clemson and Notre Dame exchange TDs and are going to overtime. You can still accomplish a lot with a backup QB if you have a quality team overall.

I don’t care if Trevor Lawrence is unavailable ... no do overs, no excuses if Clemson loses ... if Colt McCoy was not injured in natty game, we win, but we didn’t, no one cares

Clemson and ND will most likely play each other again in the ACC championship game. Clemson is gonna throttle them with Trevor Lawrence playing and they'll probably have their injured defensive players back as well.

A few other oddities I didn't note about yesterday until watching highlights today.

One is Stanford missing 4 field goals against Oregon (one was from 49, but the others were in the 25-40). So when they scored to cut it to 14-28 it could/should have been 23-28 or 26-28 instead. Their D let Oregon drive right back through them for a TD anyway, so it didn't matter.

The other is Rutgers used three different throwback plays against Ohio State and two of them were TDs. First they did it on a kick return, then later on offense to an OL to get a touchdown, and then later on a punt return to get another touchdown. So apparently Ohio State has a vulnerability there.

Also funny was that Rutgers missed 4 two-point conversions that game. All 4 were passing attempts, too, even though runs actually succeed on 2xp's more often than passes too. Between them and WVU passing on 4th and 1 twice (where running really has a higher chance of success), I'm thinking coaches are so enamored with the general ease of passing in today's rules that they forget that runs are still superior overall in short-yardage situations.

Maybe Tom can sell them copies of his binder.

They cannot make up three games before the Conference Championship game. However, they will lose 3 if not 4 of those games.

11/14

This is the crummiest slate of games in memory.

Tech v Baylor — I want Tech, but Baylor will probably take them. Thus far it’s been a lousy year for both teams.

TCU v WV — TCU’s team speed may prove the deciding factor. Patterson is also an excellent coach who kicks our a$$ almost every year. The game is in Morgantown and the Stills brothers and the rest of the WV D are good.

Arkansas v Florida — I’m interested in this one. Arkansas has been the biggest surprise this year for me, other than Indiana. Trask and the Florida WR corps are the real deal, so the pigs must light up the scoreboard to win this one. I won’t say I’m rooting for the Hogs, what Horn fan would, but I would find it interesting if they pull the upset.

Indiana v Mich State — Lets see if this year’s big surprise team IU can stay on their winning track. The Spartans offense looks better than their norm. But, Mich St has a nasty tendency to turn the ball over. Mich St got beaten up by Rutgers. Both have beaten Big Blue.

Michigan v Wisconsin — In most years, this would be a marquee game. Not this year... Harbaugh isn’t exactly on the hot seat yet, but more and more losses will start raising eyebrows.

USC v Arizona — USC by far out-talents everyone in the far West. Whatever Arizona brings, it won’t be enough today. USC may still be working out early season (for them) jitters, but so is Zona. Bru McCoy makes some plays.

Oregon v Wash State — At Pullman. Charge up the scoreboard.

Oregon State v Washington — late night game for a college football fix. Probably another sloppy PAC game with the teams still rusty. It’s still early season for them. I like the Dogs. It’s in Seattle, so I suppose the fans are free to riot after the game with no consequences.

Ole Miss v So Carolina — IMO Ole Miss is quite a bit better than their record. Maybe it shows today with a W at home.

Penn St v Nebraska - I wouldn’t normally root for the crybaby Huskers, but today is an exception.

ND v BC — 5-3 BC is pretty good. #2 ND needs to watch out for a letdown after beating Clemson. This is a battle of the best two Catholic teams.

Miami v Va Tech — Manny’s team is good. King is very good and will put a lot of points on the board. Watch for a shootout as VT has a so-so D. I’ll take Miami.

Wake v No Carolina — Wake’s QB Hartman has no INTs this year. Mack’s passing D is a bit below par. I think Mack still wins a tight one. Mack needs to control the ball and bend but don’t break on D.

Army v Tulane — ? Army has had the weaker schedule.

FSU v NC State — NC State’s O should light it up.

Nebraska is putting it to Penn State-- 17-3 so far . . . Nebraska scores again off a recovered fumble. 24-3. Time to switch channels.

Michigan State intercepts Indiana in Michigan State end zone, and Indiana returns the favor by intercepting Michigan State's next pass.
