Olympics

I note that the American athletes who are children of immigrants seem to be the ones reaching for the US flag after a medal winning performance.

I just recorded this interview and was posting it on you tube, but of course it was blocked before it was even posted. Figures they would censor a black athlete with such a great bubbly outlook on life celebrating the USA.

Huh? Sounds like you got censored for a Copyright violation.

Will they color Rapinoe's hair back to blonde? Will they not kneel? Will they s**k d**k?

I'm always amazed at how many athletes for other countries train in the US. Whether they are part of a college team or simply reside here yet represent other countries it seems most of the Track and Field and Swimming participants live in the US.

The skateboarders and bikers too.

You should go to a cheap eatery for a quick meal sometime when Mexico plays the US in soccer. 10 to 1 ratio roots for Mexico. Loudly

I'm aware. They are tribal all the way.

My Dad loved Cuba. He hated Castro. He felt the United States was a life saver for him and from his life is relative point of view, the absolute light in the world. The American hegemony was vital as the alternatives in his mind were Russia or China. He felt Europe was impotent. What's left? Us.

Indeed. someone should do a Olympic survey that shows where all of the athletes live and train. I think we'll see that the US is probably training 15% of all the other-nation athletes that compete against us. Seems like that sends a pretty powerful message about people liking and wanting to be here. After all, if you are an Olympic athlete in your own country presumably you have it pretty good in relative terms....and yet you choose to live and train in the US. And then probably marry, have a family, get citizenship, etc.

Seems like it also sends a pretty powerful message about the US not being this racist, xenophobic place that MSM and the Dem party seems to be hell bent on painting us as.

Great points. I would interested to see if any train with our men's and/or women's track coaches. I had to turn it off last night because it was worse than watching a Charlie or Mensa coached football team. Viper & I agreed that we got better coaching in public school junior high than these people have gotten.

NEVER, and I mean NEVER, did we have a baton pass like that abortion last night. Do they EVER practice? Do they work on their take off spots? Are they marked? Do they talk on the track? "Go" or "take" are such difficult words when your running. What a total embarrassment and waste of money.

I know less than diddly about track, but it was reported while other nations have their relay squad picked well in advance, the U.S. waits to determine who the four athletes running will be until they are in the Olympic village, if not the day of the event??? I get you might want to pick whomever is hot and fastest at the moment, but if this is true and there's indeed no practice how the hell does THAT work?

how the hell does THAT work?

It works out great. What could go wrong?

Running over your teammate in the passing zone
Teammate running backwards looking for baton
Turning a potential world record into a Bastrop Middle School record

If they are indeed chosen at the Olympics, give each one of them a baton to carry everywhere they go, and constantly saying, "go" and "take". If the person looks back, slap the **** out of them.

We need the ability to flag a post as both Agree and Funny.

Ha, do anything except pick the best possible team, instead of the collection of has-beens who are too old and washed up to play.

I read somewhere, possibly here, that the woman's team makes more money from Club USA play than with pro play, unlike the men's team. So, while it leads to the best players wanting to play for Club USA, it also leads to it being a well paying gig that players don't want to leave, and it's hardly like the coach is going to be able to cut the biggest names, even if they are washed up.

In the words of the late, great Jones Ramsey , "the only thing more boring than track, is field"

I've always thought field events were pretty interesting. They jump, they throw heavy stuff, including a spear, they use poles to clear a two story bar, etc.

What I've never understood is how the organizers, and TV networks, make it so boring.

For the high jump and pole vault, they have this silly rule that a contestant can basically have the bar set at what height they want, leading to complicated scenarios, instead of just cranking the bar up a set amount each round, till only one person has cleared it.

And the TV networks never show it as it happens, but in this narration style of events that have already happened, taking all the thrill out. Maybe it because there's such a long time allowed between competitors they can't really cover it live - but if so, then that needs to be changed.

No track athlete has impressed me since Dave Wottle
No field athlete has impressed me since Dick Fosbury

to each their own.
